This unit allows learners to develop their understanding of the pre-production process in media industries, including awareness of research, regulations, responding to client requirements, and identifying resources. Students respond to a product brief and apply their knowledge and understanding of pre-production to the set brief in the exam.

through a two hour exam which is worth 80 marks.
• Unit 1 asks students to respond to stimulus materials, focused on the evaluation of audience research data (such as Fig. 2).

Assessment of Unit 1The June 2017 paper demonstrates the format of questions for this exam. There are nine questions in this paper. Most questions require short‐medium length answers. On this paper two questions require an extended response, based on case study media texts students have studied.
