Today, the fixing of appointments is mostly a formality. In the old days (or so I have been told), pastors wouldnt know until they came to Lakeside for Annual Conference if they were moving or staying put. Thank God we no longer have that system! Still, as my first year as pastor here comes to a close, Im caught by how much has happened in the last year. I am thankful to so many who have welcomed us and helped us get settled. I am thankful for how many serve selflessly in the church, week in and week out, to make ministry hap- pen. Just before I sat down to right this article, I saw the pictures of our Vacation Bible School float in the Memorial Day Parade, and the many volunteers who came out to help. Wow, what a church. And yet, as fun as it is to celebrate and reflect, there really isnt much time for it. As Rev. Barry Burns preached at our anniversary cele- bration this past month, there is still so much left to do. Right now, the staff is working to plan for Lakeside for Youth later this month, readying for Vacation Bible School, and even planning for the late fall. It seems it never stops! That often seems to be the way of a faith calling, isnt it? Gods calling on our lives is never over. Were never too old (Moses was 80 be- fore his calling even began), and weve never accomplished so much to be able to just stop. Just as we complete one step, were already on to the next. It can be tiring, at times, but it also brings great joy and life. We al- ways have purpose. There is still more to be done. So as I head off to our Annual Conference for this year, I give thanks for the great year of ministry together. But more than that, I call us to remain faithful. There is more to be done! The Chimes Next week, the family and I head to Lakeside, Ohio for the West

Ohio Annual Conference. Every year, all the clergy of the West Ohio Con-

ference, plus a roughly equal number of laity, attend the Annual Confer-

ence where we worship together and conduct the necessary business of the

Conference. One of the traditions at Annual Conference is the Fixing of

Appointments. During the Fixing of Appointments a list is distributed

showing the pastor assigned to every church in the conference and new

appointments are announced. Today, the fixing of appointments is mostly

a formality. In the old days (or so I have been told), pastors wouldn’t

know until they came to Lakeside for Annual Conference if they were

moving or staying put. Thank God we no longer have that system!

Still, as my first year as pastor here comes to a close, I’m caught

by how much has happened in the last year. I am thankful to so many who

have welcomed us and helped us get settled. I am thankful for how many

serve selflessly in the church, week in and week out, to make ministry hap-

pen. Just before I sat down to right this article, I saw the pictures of our

Vacation Bible School float in the Memorial Day Parade, and the many

volunteers who came out to help. Wow, what a church.

And yet, as fun as it is to celebrate and reflect, there really isn’t

much time for it. As Rev. Barry Burns preached at our anniversary cele-

bration this past month, there is still so much left to do. Right now, the

staff is working to plan for Lakeside for Youth later this month, readying

for Vacation Bible School, and even planning for the late fall. It seems it

never stops!

That often seems to be the way of a faith calling, isn’t it? God’s

calling on our lives is never over. We’re never too old (Moses was 80 be-

fore his calling even began), and we’ve never accomplished so much to be

able to just stop. Just as we complete one step, we’re already on to the

next. It can be tiring, at times, but it also brings great joy and life. We al-

ways have purpose. There is still more to be done.

So as I head off to our Annual Conference for this year, I give

thanks for the great year of ministry together. But more than that, I call us

to remain faithful. There is more to be done!

I will give thanks to you, Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonderful deeds. I will be glad and rejoice in you; I will sing the praises of your name, O Most High. Psalm 9: 1-2

It's amazing how quickly the year has gone by. I thank the Lord for such a wonderful staff here at 1st United Methodist. Everyone has been so great to work with. Lacey Watkins has been my right hand help every step of the way and I so enjoy working with her. Thanks to Lisha Rawlins for all her hard work in the office and doing so many things for me that is not in her job description. Pastor Jonathan has been a life saver and my technical support this year often hearing me cry down the hallway for help...patient man that he is he never gets upset but seems to solve my issues; praise the Lord !

Thanks go to Dwight Brown for running my power point for the program this Spring, and Abe Oates for al-ways toting us around in the bus when on field trips.

So many people to thank but I couldn’t forget the board of education for being so supportive and unified this year; giving guidance and wis-dom in all school matters. Ladies like Christa, Candy, and Annette have made my life easier this year.

The bonus Lacey and I received brought us to tears and we praise the Lord for each and everyone of your prayers!

May HE continue to bless,

Lisa Thomsen

THANK YOU FOR LEADING US IN WORSHIP THIS PAST YEAR!

YOUTH NEWS

First and foremost, thank you for your prayers and sup-port for the youth in our church. We could not do what we do if it were not for our supportive congregation.

Here are just a few updates on what we are up to:

The final Lakeside fundraiser is a yard sale this Satur-day, June 4th from 8 am-noon in the church parking lot. Thank you all for your donations! Please come see all the items we have for sale!

We will be leaving for Lakeside Sunday June 26th. Please pray for physical health and safety, spiritual growth, and for a bonding experience for our youth, CIT’s, and adult leaders.

Each year we ask members of the congregation to pick a student that they would like to pray for while we are at camp. We call these our prayer partners. Some prayer partners are notorious for sending their partner a card and maybe some money for the famous Patio ice cream at Lakeside! Be on the lookout for the names of the students attending Lakeside to be available in the cookie room in a couple weeks! The students really enjoy hearing from the congregation while they are away at camp.

Please continue to pray for the youth in our congregation.

God Bless,

Jacquelyn Stalder

I would like to thank

my church family for

their prayers, cards, and

the many calls. Also,

those who sent food,

including Elizabeth

Circle, while I recovered

from my fall and surgery

the past 2 1/2 months.

You are all truly caring

people and I will be for-

ever grateful. May God

bless each of you.

Whether it was the com-

fort of your presence, or

the touch of your hand,

or your whispers of love,

or the remembrances

from times past...each

has meant so much.

Thank you.

JUNE SERMON SERIES

If you are traveling, ill, or unable

to make it to church one Sunday,

but you don’t want to miss the

sermon, you are in luck! We have

a couple of options for viewing at

least the sermon (and sometimes

the entire service) online.

Every week, the sermon from the

9am service is uploaded to our

account with Vimeo. It is usually

uploaded by Tuesday of the fol-

lowing week. The sermon, and

previous sermons, can be viewed

for free.

Simply go to http://

www.vimeo.com/kentonfirst to

see our page and all our videos.

This service was made possible by

a generous donation to increase

our online ability. Thank you to

the unnamed donor who gener-

ously supported this.

We have also been experimenting

with broadcasting parts of the

service on Facebook Live. We are

still in the beginning stages of

this, but this is another great way

to catch the service if you are un-

able to attend.

NEW OPTIONS TO WATCH SERVICE

June 5- Ephesians 2:11-22-Unity

in Christ-Unity is not the same as

uniformity. We are not called to all be

the same. Rather, we are

brought together only in Christ, who

unites us all as one. Christ must be

our "north star" that brings us togeth-

er.

June 12- Ephesians 4:1-6-United

in Mission-The reason for our unity is

not a lack of conflict, or to make oth-

ers just like us. Rather, we are united

so that we can work together in our

mission to be Christ's witnesses to the

ends of the earth (i.e. make disciples).

June 19- Ephesians 4:7-13-We

Need Each Other-Unity is not option-

al! We need each other. Each of us is

uniquely made and uniquely gifted to

serve the Kingdom of God. We need

each other's unique gifts.

June 26- Ephesians 4:14-16-Know

Who We Are-The call to unity does

not diminish our difference. Rather,

we are called to know who we are,

and what we believe. At the same

time, we are also called to be aware

of how we can be united while differ-

ent. In the words of Rabbi Brad

Hirschfield, "You don't have to be

wrong for me to be right."
