FIRST SUNDAY POTLUCK APRIL 2nd FEATURES MISSION TEAM REPORT | Sunday, April 2nd following the 10:30AM worship service will be our next “First Sunday Potluck Luncheon.” Bring your favorite dish, or simply “feed the duck” with your donation. Kelley Ramey and members of our Spring Break Mission Team, who travelled to Slidell, LA, will be sharing a power-‐point presentation during our meal about the work they accomplished. This is their way of expressing their THANKS for your support of prayer and money, enabling them to be our Lord’s “hands and feet” on our behalf. ALZHEIMER’S SUPPORT GROUP IN THE MAKING | On Tuesday, March 14th, Rev. Lynn and Kelly Brack went to Oklahoma City and spent the day in training at the Alzheimer’s Association office. They were prepared to organize a support group for friends and family members of loved ones suffering with some form of dementia. If anyone is interested in being a part of an Alzheimer’s Support Group, please let the pastor know. We’re considering offering a support group meeting on the first Tuesday of each month. LEADERSHIP TEAM MEETING | On Sunday, April 2nd, committee work areas will be gathering at 5:30PM in classrooms on the west side corridor. Your committee chairperson will let you know if your committee is meeting. Then, our Leadership Team will be meeting in the Neonate Classroom at 6:30PM. 4-‐M MEAL & U.M. FOUNDATION PROGRAM ON WEDNESDAY, APRIL 19th | Our usual “Mid-‐Month Methodist Meal” will be on the third Wednesday, April 19th, 5:30PM to 6:00PM. It’s a pot-‐luck, so bring your favorite dish (try one out of newest UMW cookbook). Food—Fun—Fellowship . . . that’s what we know how to do best. Everyone is invited, including our SWOSU students. Come join us! The meal will be followed by a special presentation from our United Methodist Foundation in Oklahoma City. Rev. Darrell Cates will be sharing information on how our Foundation may assist you in preparing a will and leaving a legacy in it for your Church. The on-‐going financial health of your church is dependent upon members remembering their church in their will. Come learn how you can do this. FALL PREVENTION DEMO ON MONDAYS & WEDNESDAYS | Dr. Sam Lackey (580-‐774-‐4602 | [email protected]) will be in our church on Mondays and Wednesdays at 5PM to give you the opportunity to see for yourself the ease and benefits of fall prevention by way of Tai Chi. He will be in the larger Gathering Room just west of the Fellowship Hall. Here’s when you can find out how it helped Dr. Lackey, the Fall Prevention Education teacher at SWOSU. He is an 80-‐year-‐old, 30% service-‐related disabled veteran. This balanced and relaxed stepping took the painful pressure off his damaged knee, with its increasingly painful arthritis, so that he was able to give a returning soldier with worse injuries his place on the list for a knee replacement surgery. A second serious threat was managed when a 60 mph wind blew him over backwards—a wind that uprooted an eleven-‐inch elm tree thirty feet away. Dr. Lackey will guide you into the safe-‐stepping patterns that have helped him so very much. Come see for yourself! EASTER LILIES FOR SALE | This year, our church has pre-‐ordered 56 Easter lily plants from United Supermarket. United is allowing us to have these plants at their cost of $6.00 per plant. We are offering them to church members for $10.00, so that $4.00 of your plant cost is a donation to “The Poor Box.” Order envelopes are available in the Narthex . . . please use one envelope for each lily ordered. As usual, you may designate your lily “in memory of” or “in honor of” a loved one.

PALM SUNDAY “PAX MEAL” ON APRIL 9th | Everyone (including all children’s, youth, and adult Sunday School classes) are invited into the Fellowship Hall on Palm/Passion Sunday, April 9th, from 9:30AM to 10:10AM. We will be observing the traditional “PAX MEAL” with specially, decorated muffins. It is a symbolic way of entering into Holy Week with a clean and contrite heart. In a symbolic gesture with the use of our Pax Cakes, we will be asking forgiveness of those we may have wronged, as well as forgiving those who may have wronged us. The idea is that we want to be clear and clean of any resentment or ill-‐will as we approach Easter Sunday through the events of Holy Week. So . . . everyone (children, youth, and adults) gather in the Fellowship Hall on Palm/Passion Sunday at 9:30AM for this traditional and meaningful ritual “cleansing” as a part of our total Lenten Journey. Members of the Connections Sunday School Class, under the leadership of Tim Bodenstein, will be assisting with set up (since this falls on the second Sunday of the month and it’s their turn to host “Fellowship Coffee” on this day). “PROJECT TRANSFORMATION” OFFERS SUMMER EMPLOYMENT FOR COLLEGE STUDENTS | “Project Transformation” is a United Methodist summer literacy program and day camp for elementary children from low-‐income communities. We hire 56 college students to lead the camps at our nine church sites. For these young adults, our program provides a hands-‐on opportunity to build lasting relationships with under-‐served children and explore various careers in ministry and service. Site locations include: Oklahoma City (2), Moore, El Reno, Enid, Mangum, Bartlesville, Muskogee, and Tulsa. The dates are: May 22nd through July 27th. What’s included: housing and most meals. Salary: $1800 living stipend, plus a $1200 education award. Interested? Contact the pastor. HOLY WEEK SPECIAL SERVICES | You are invited to round-‐out your Lenten Journey this year by participating in our two, traditional Holy Week services . . . Maundy Thursday (April 13th) and Black/Good Friday (April 14th). Both services will be held in the Chapel, beginning at 7:00PM. Our Maundy Thursday service on April 13th will include the Sacrament of Holy Communion (served by intinction). The service is entitled, “At The Crossroads: Forgiveness.” On Black/Good Friday beginning at 7PM on April 14th, we will observe the traditional ritual at the end of the service—Altar candles extinguished; Christ candle removed; and the Strepitus (loud noise) heard, signifying the death of the Christ. The service is entitled, “At The Crossroads: Death.” FREE EASTER BREAKFAST | Our United Methodist Men, under the leadership of Chef Jeff Short, will once again be preparing a FREE Easter Breakfast for our church family. A full breakfast will be served in the Fellowship Hall from 8AM until 10AM. Bring your friends and family . . . and STAY for worship. Members of the Connections Sunday School Class will also be supplying breakfast goodies and assisting with serving and set-‐up. YOU’RE INVITED TO THE “FRIENDS OF CHILDREN BANQUET” | This year represents the 100th anniversary of our United Methodist “Circle of Care” children/youth ministry in the Oklahoma Conference. It is a high honor that our own CAROL WRIGHT is serving as Circle of Care Board of Directors chairperson this year as well. You are invited to the Circle of Care “Friends of Children” Banquet and Centennial Celebration on Saturday, April 29th, 6PM to 8PM, at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum in OKC. Our local church has made a major donation of $2400 to the Circle of Care for the support of their on-‐going ministries. As such, our church has 16 pre-‐paid seats available at two tables. We would love for you to attend. We hope to have a full group from our Weatherford church. Please let Carol Wright know if you would like to attend (772-‐2383). YOUTH GROUP LEADING WORSHIP | On Sunday, April 30th, members of our United Methodist Youth Group, under the direction of Kelley Ramey, will be leading us in worship and serving as Ushers/Greeters in both services. LIFE LINE HEALTH SCREENING TO OUR CHURCH | Life Line Health Screening is once again coming to our church on Friday, April 7th in the Fellowship Hall. Pre-‐register for your appointment by calling 1-‐888-‐653-‐6450. Be smart—do more for your cardiovascular health. Advanced ultrasound technology looks inside your arteries for signs of plaque buildup. That’s why o out of 10 cardiovascular physicians support preventive screenings for those with key risk factors (age 55+, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, obesity, tobacco usage, family history of CVD or stroke). Package 1—4 Tests ($139) includes: Carotid Artery (Plaque) Screening; Heart Rhythm Screening (atrial fibrillation); Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Screening; Peripheral Arterial Disease Screening. Package 2—Add to the above, Osteoporosis Screening for only $10 more ($149)

EASTER FLYERS DISTRIBUTION IN THE CITY | The Communications Department of the general United Methodist Church has supplied our church with 1500 free Easter flyers for distribution here in town. The flyers have been pre-‐printed with our contact and Easter service information. Members of our Evangelism, Mission, and Worship committees will be walking various targeted neighborhoods in Weatherford with these door hangers publicizing our church’s Easter services and FREE breakfast. They will be doing this on Saturday, April 8th. This project is part of our H.O.P.E. emphasis this year [H=Hospitality; O=Offer them Christ; P=Purpose of Wesleyan Means of Grace; E=Engage our local mission field. H.O.P.E. TESTIMONIES IN WORSHIP DURING LENT | If you’ve been able to join us for worship during the Sundays in the purple season of Lent, you have given witness to the various testimonies from our church members concerning what they find significant and helpful in being engaged in this local United Methodist Church. The purpose of these brief video clips is to inspire and encourage each of us to go out from here and tell others in the community, who may be seeking a church home, why we think this is a great church to call home. KUDOS & THANKS to our members who have allowed themselves to be videoed and played in worship: Ella June Strickler, Suzan Gates, Mason Carmen, Terri McCormick, Todd Doyals, and Keagan Smith. LABYRINTH WALK IN OUR CHURCH TO BE AVAILABLE DURING HOLY WEEK | A “LABYRINTH” is a physical, spiritual pathway that is drawn out on a floor or a canvass covering the floor that is used as a guided enhancement for contemplation. It is composed of an intricate structure of interconnecting lines or paths. While walking along the labyrinth, one places one’s mind into a contemplative attitude until one reaches the center space. Then, one turns around and walks back out again. Sara Marie & Tim Bodenstein have a Labyrinth that they will be setting up in our Fellowship Hall during Holy Week. It will be available for you to walk on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday (April 12, 13, 14) during the hours of 4PM through 7PM. This is simply another tool you may use for your inner reflection during your Lenten Journey. YEAR-‐TO-‐DATE STEWARDSHIP REPORT FROM YOUR FINANCE COMMITTEE YEAR TO DATE INCOME . . . THANKS FOR GENEROUS UMCOR SPECIAL OFFERING | On Sunday, March 26th, we received our second General Church special offering for the year entitled, “UMCOR SUNDAY.” UMCOR is an acronym for “United Methodist Committee on Relief.” This special offering used to be called “One Great Hour of Sharing.” This year it was changed to UMCOR Sunday, because this offering has been going to UMCOR, which is our United Methodist disaster relief agency. Your generous contributions totaled $950.00. THANK YOU!
Thank You Note from World Vision Dear Pastor, I’m writing to thank you for the generosity of your church through World Vision’s 30 Hour Famine. I am so incredibly thankful for your partnership! Together, we are in the margins, serving the most vulnerable by providing food to those suffering from extreme hunger. Please know that you’re making a life-‐changing difference.
Thank You Note from the Doyals To Our Church Family, Thank you for all of the flowers, food, cards and prayers sent to our family during Mom’s passing. Having such a generous church family during difficult times is a wonderful blessing. Thanks you and May God continue to bless each of you! Ted, Ted & Debbie, Walt & Julie, Ron, Todd & Darla
Thank You Note from Conference Treasurer Dear Friends at Weatherford First UMC, Thank you for beginning2017 in such a generous way through your January apportionments payment. TEEN TALK
The youth will begin April out by going to Winter Jam on
Saturday, April 1. We will be leaving Weatherford at 2:00pm and will return by midnight. Youth will need $10 for the concert as well as money for food and souvenirs. Winter Jam is loaded with the biggest lineup ever of Christian worship, pop, hip-hop, and rock artists so there is something for everyone. In one big
night, there will be live concerts by Crowder, Britt Nicole, Tenth Avenue North, Andy Mineo, Colton Dixon, Thousand Foot Krutch and hosts NewSong. Plus, the Pre-Jam Party will feature hot new acts OBB, Sarah Reeves and Steven Malcolm. In addition to all of this great music, Sadie Robertson will make a special appearance and there will be a powerful gospel presentation by evangelist, Tony Nolan. Youth need to let Kelley Ramey know if they plan to go or sign up in the youth lounge.
On Sunday evenings the youth continue to meet at 4:30pm. However, due to Easter, they will not meet on Sunday, April 16. They will have Bible studies on April 2 and 9; Mission on April 23; and Movie Night on April 30. Also on April 30, the youth will be leading both worship services. We look forward to sharing our gifts and talents with the rest of the church.
Mission Team Report
During Spring Break, the mission team had a great time working in the Slidell, LA area. We will be giving a report about our week on Sunday, April 2, during the First Sunday Pot Luck Lunch which begins after the second worship service (around 11:45am). We hope you will come and fellowship with us and listen about the fantastic week we had serving others.

EVERYONE IS INVITED TO PARTICIPATE UMW PHANTON WALK supporting UMW MISSION PROJECTS
The Weatherford United Methodist Women (UMW) circles have approval from the Finance
Committee to have a fund-‐raising event that can involve all the members of the local church, particularly women who have not already made a pledge to UMW this year, women who may not currently be active in UMW, and men who would like to participate. So join the 2017 Phantom Walk supporting UMW MISSION PROJECTS!
In a Phantom Walk, you pay $1 for each step you would like to support on the walk. You don’t actually have to show up anywhere and walk. This lets people of all ages and abilities participate. Our walk is scheduled to happen between April 19 – 30, 2017.
Through the walk we will be taking steps to help in these Mission Areas: OK Conference: Criminal Justice & Mercy Ministry (CJAMM) Camp
(camp for children w/ at least one parent in prison) OK UMW projects: Neighborhood Service Organization (NSO) Cookson Hills OK UMW projects supported by our Weatherford UMW pledge to missions Local area mission needs: Action Associates – women shelter Circle of Care Christmas for Weatherford Middle School student Lotions for the Weatherford LTC residents And even more – if we have funds to support the identified needs Each person that participates will get a thank you note if you return the information below with
your donation. If you walk 100 steps, you can receive a t-‐shirt (I survived the UMW 2017 Phantom Walk). Please indicate the size below if you would like a shirt for your donation of $100.00 or more.
If you have any questions, contact UMW President Faye Henson at (580) 772-‐5984 or (580) 330-‐
