Rooted In God’s Love— APRIL 2017 Passionate | Relevant | Life Changing FIRST SUNDAY POTLUCK APRIL 2 nd FEATURES MISSION TEAM REPORT | Sunday, April 2 nd following the 10:30AM worship service will be our next “First Sunday Potluck Luncheon.” Bring your favorite dish, or simply “feed the duck” with your donation. Kelley Ramey and members of our Spring Break Mission Team, who travelled to Slidell, LA, will be sharing a powerpoint presentation during our meal about the work they accomplished. This is their way of expressing their THANKS for your support of prayer and money, enabling them to be our Lord’s “hands and feet” on our behalf. ALZHEIMER’S SUPPORT GROUP IN THE MAKING | On Tuesday, March 14 th , Rev. Lynn and Kelly Brack went to Oklahoma City and spent the day in training at the Alzheimer’s Association office. They were prepared to organize a support group for friends and family members of loved ones suffering with some form of dementia. If anyone is interested in being a part of an Alzheimer’s Support Group, please let the pastor know. We’re considering offering a support group meeting on the first Tuesday of each month. LEADERSHIP TEAM MEETING | On Sunday, April 2 nd , committee work areas will be gathering at 5:30PM in classrooms on the west side corridor. Your committee chairperson will let you know if your committee is meeting. Then, our Leadership Team will be meeting in the Neonate Classroom at 6:30PM. 4M MEAL & U.M. FOUNDATION PROGRAM ON WEDNESDAY, APRIL 19 th | Our usual “Mid Month Methodist Meal” will be on the third Wednesday, April 19 th , 5:30PM to 6:00PM. It’s a potluck, so bring your favorite dish (try one out of newest UMW cookbook). Food—Fun—Fellowship . . . that’s what we know how to do best. Everyone is invited, including our SWOSU students. Come join us! The meal will be followed by a special presentation from our United Methodist Foundation in Oklahoma City. Rev. Darrell Cates will be sharing information on how our Foundation may assist you in preparing a will and leaving a legacy in it for your Church. The ongoing financial health of your church is dependent upon members remembering their church in their will. Come learn how you can do this. FALL PREVENTION DEMO ON MONDAYS & WEDNESDAYS | Dr. Sam Lackey (5807744602 | [email protected]) will be in our church on Mondays and Wednesdays at 5PM to give you the opportunity to see for yourself the ease and benefits of fall prevention by way of Tai Chi. He will be in the larger Gathering Room just west of the Fellowship Hall. Here’s when you can find out how it helped Dr. Lackey, the Fall Prevention Education teacher at SWOSU. He is an 80yearold, 30% servicerelated disabled veteran. This balanced and relaxed stepping took the painful pressure off his damaged knee, with its increasingly painful arthritis, so that he was able to give a returning soldier with worse injuries his place on the list for a knee replacement surgery. A second serious threat was managed when a 60 mph wind blew him over backwards—a wind that uprooted an eleveninch elm tree thirty feet away. Dr. Lackey will guide you into the safestepping patterns that have helped him so very much. Come see for yourself! EASTER LILIES FOR SALE | This year, our church has preordered 56 Easter lily plants from United Supermarket. United is allowing us to have these plants at their cost of $6.00 per plant. We are offering them to church members for $10.00, so that $4.00 of your plant cost is a donation to “The Poor Box.” Order envelopes are available in the Narthex . . . please use one envelope for each lily ordered. As usual, you may designate your lily “in memory of” or “in honor of” a loved one.

TEEN TALK

The youth will begin April out by going to Winter Jam on

Saturday, April 1. We will be leaving Weatherford at 2:00pm and will return by midnight. Youth will need $10 for the concert as well as money for food and souvenirs. Winter Jam is loaded with the biggest lineup ever of Christian worship, pop, hip-hop, and rock artists so there is something for everyone. In one big

night, there will be live concerts by Crowder, Britt Nicole, Tenth Avenue North, Andy Mineo, Colton Dixon, Thousand Foot Krutch and hosts NewSong. Plus, the Pre-Jam Party will feature hot new acts OBB, Sarah Reeves and Steven Malcolm. In addition to all of this great music, Sadie Robertson will make a special appearance and there will be a powerful gospel presentation by evangelist, Tony Nolan. Youth need to let Kelley Ramey know if they plan to go or sign up in the youth lounge.

On Sunday evenings the youth continue to meet at 4:30pm. However, due to Easter, they will not meet on Sunday, April 16. They will have Bible studies on April 2 and 9; Mission on April 23; and Movie Night on April 30. Also on April 30, the youth will be leading both worship services. We look forward to sharing our gifts and talents with the rest of the church.

Mission Team Report

During Spring Break, the mission team had a great time working in the Slidell, LA area. We will be giving a report about our week on Sunday, April 2, during the First Sunday Pot Luck Lunch which begins after the second worship service (around 11:45am). We hope you will come and fellowship with us and listen about the fantastic week we had serving others.
