Unusual NationTeresa Loveday
Just before His ascension into Heaven, Jesus gave the com-
mand to go and to make disciples of all nations. My nations
- two prisons.
The first trip was to a men’s prison where I had volunteered
to run a carnival in celebration of men graduating from a
weekly Bible study emphasizing becoming better fathers.
Upon arriving at the prison, plans changed. I would be
a Family Assistant to the prisoner, talking to the prisoner
about his relationship with Jesus, praying with him, and
escorting his two young boys into the prison for the carnival.
All enjoyed the carnival and a delicious lunch. The gospel
was presented by a juggler. I left the prison in very high
spirits.
This year the experience was entirely different. Upon arriv-
ing at the women’s prison, we all waited in a room, praying
for the mothers, the children, and the day. Approximately
two hours later, instead of escorting three children into the
prison, I went alone. The mother was distraught, crying
bitterly. Although April was a stranger to me, I found myself
crying with her and praying for her. She had not seen the
children for five months, and had not touched them for
seven months, and had received only two short notes from
them because they were too young to write.
April tried to make the most of the day, playing games,
watching the fun, and eating candy. She left the carnival
early because she was so upset, leaving without saying
good-bye. The ride home was not the celebration of the
previous year.
Who would have ever thought God would send me as a mis-
sionary to a prison and that my audience would be murder-
ers, burglars, drug traffickers, and more? This year eight
women and five children accepted Jesus as their Lord and
Savior. Although I didn’t win April to the Lord, I was there to
love her and through a very difficult day, reminding her of
Jesus’ love. Pray that God will continually place people who
are willing to go to ALL nations and make disciples.
He has done and is doing a very good job building the part of it that gathers for worship at 317 Parkway, Sevierville, TN 37862. You who constitute the membership and serve as His laborers have reason for two extreme emotions: humility and pride.
There are two kinds of pride. One is ego-based and improper. The other means to be ashamed not to be your best. That is the kind you obviously have - you want to be your best for Him. He doesn’t require of any of us that we be the best at anything. He desires us to be our best at everything we undertake.
It is humbling to realize He, the creator of the universe. is willing to use us in building His church. Here is a construction assignment. Studies show that most people will attend church if given a warmhearted, personal invitation by a friend. The holiday season is an ideal time to invite friends to the many special events coming up. People are often intimidated by going to a big church building and not knowing their way around. Therefore, be specific. Designate an obvious place and time to meet. Even offer to pick them up and bring them. These special events are “entry events.” If they come they will likely like it and want to come back for other activities.
That is a good idea, but often good ideas go unimplemented because there is no strategy for carrying them

out. Therefore, stop now and plan your strategy for who you will invite, when and to what. Write yourself a time line and execute your plan.
As your Interim Pastor, I am one of His supervisors on the job site and I like what I see. Remember, to edify is to build up. I see people bulding people up in the Lord. Be a Minister of Edification.
It is a joy to share with you. I would like to share the results of 37 visits to the Bible Land. On these trips, I have researched aspects of Bible times and customs not known here. The result is a novel entitled “The Chronicles of Nicodemus.” It relates to the resurrection. Reviews have been good and response excellent. It is written to disprove and dispel present day misunderstandings related to the resurrection. Copies will be available after services starting October 31.
We will return to the Bible Land May 3-13, 2011, for the forty-first time. Visit my website (www.nelsonprice.com) to view a soon-to-be-posted brochure on the trip. There you will also find articles on numerous Bible topics and current events.
Thanks for allowing me the joy of experiencing Christ alive in His body, His church. Come prayed up every time we gather.

Coming HomeNancy Silvestris
I was born into this world under some pretty extreme circumstances. My mother had struggled with severe Hypertension most of her life and during the period she was preg-nant with me, her condition became uncon-trollable. Our chances for survival were slim and my condition was worsening by the hour and my survival was estimated at 20%. I was delivered 6 weeks premature and weighed 2lbs 13oz. My life long battle was just begin-ning.
As the severity of my trauma lie silent, prob-lems begun to develop by age 2. After having been examined by many Pediatric special-ists, and now approaching 4, a diagnosis was made. My left side was 1/2 the muscle mass as the right, I was fitted with leg braces, my left arm was fixed to the center of my chest and my speech was poor. My parents were told I had Cerebral Palsy.
The Primary Physician advised my parents to not have high expectations for physical or scholastic achievements. However, they had other plans. Extensive physical and speech

can do this with full confidence, because He is
completely trustworthy.
FIRST FOCUS
We must focus our hearts and minds on Him.
Colossians 3:1-2 instructs us to set our hearts and
minds on things above, not on earthly things.
A great way to do this is starting the day with
prayer and time in His word. A great resource for
this is the First Focus devotions, which you can
sign up for on our church website.
FIRST FAMILY
A key component to keeping Christ first is being
faithful to His family. Every member of the family
at FBC is important to one another, and we must
stay connected. Hebrews 10:25 calls us to not
forsake the assembling of ourselves together.
Sundays are an important day for family get
togethers, as we encourage our brothers and
sisters and worship our Father in heaven.
therapy, three times a day. was required. My leg was extended and the braces were gone. Through testing it was discovered I was profoundly hard of hearing which caused my speech difficulties, I was fitted with hear-ing aids and began to speak audibly. After the addition of my two sisters, my mother’s illness took her from us when I was 10.
High School created new challenges, socially I was ostracized daily. One day my speech teacher requested I sing for her. She heard I sang well and had achieved the highest scores at district and state competition each year. She introduced me to Very Special Arts, a program funded by the Kennedy Foundation to allow those with disabilities to perform in the Arts. I became a charter member and assisted in many major fund raising programs and sang solo perfor-mances. Miraculously I earned a Choral Scholarship to a local college and continued on to the University of Central Florida where I earned an AA degree in Psychology. I had an army of angels assisting me along the way.
“God was in the driver’s seat and I did not yet fully know him.”
A spiritual change was in order and through friends, my dad and I discovered Sevierville/Pigeon Forge. We established a business and on many occasions I found myself in con-versation with a staff member concerning church and Christianity. Visiting her home one day I questioned her about how at peace she always appeared. Although I attended church, I felt like a piece of the puzzle was missing. I never fully comprehended the Bible nor understood how to seek the Truth. She explained the Roman Road. From that day forward God has been leading my life and opened doors to First Baptist Church Sevierville. Inside I found my home and my new life with God. He directed me to baptism and my life altering walk alongside Him.
Once you experience that walk through those doors, you’ve come home.

FIRST FRUITS
When Christ is first in our lives, we give Him the
very best we have to offer. This involves setting
aside at least ten percent of our finances to give to
His church and work in the world. We do this be-
cause we recognize that all we have is His anyway!
FIRST AND TEN
Seeking Him first means walking by faith, spending
time with Him, fellowshipping with believers and
giving ourselves to His service. Let me close with
the challenge to keep moving forward in this. One
of the leaders of the two minute drill offense in the
NFL is Brett Favre. Once he was asked what the key
to being successful in offense is and he said, “keep
getting first downs.” In the same way, we must
keep moving forward, to get closer and closer to
Christ. We must keep first things first!
First Things FirstChris KirbyAssistant Student Minister
It’s football time in Tennessee! This time of year,
there’s one question that is debated on TV and ra-
dio, at parties and offices and that is Who’s Number
One? Through the season, teams will battle for that
prized position at the top as they work towards a
goal of national championship. This battle for top
goes on in our hearts also and God makes it clear
that the number one spot belongs to Him. We are
told in Matthew 6:33 to “Seek first the Kingdom of
God and His righteousness and all these things will
be added to us as well.” What does it look like for us
to seek Him first?
FIRST FAITH
It begins with placing our faith in Him. We must
choose to trust His work on the cross for our salva-
tion, and then trust His spirit to guide our lives. We
