product has been practiced for 140 years and continues to be
practiced today.

over one million square feet. The facility has state of the art
technology insuring quality throughout the manufacturing process.
The distribution center has capabilities of storing 20,000 rolls of
carpet and the rug facility manufacturers all rug designs ensuring
quality control and production.
Today, Masland Contract is recognized as the styling leader and
producer of new original products to the marketplace. Masland
Contract products exemplify originality, innovative construction and
color treatment as well as lasting beauty.
Masland has come a long way since 1866 and will continue to make
a difference in the floor covering industry. In addition to the superior
product, Masland Contract offers an outstanding customer service
program. The company takes pride in its associates and continues to
grow. Masland Contract continues to play, what it hopes is, a
constructive part in the history of its industry and community –
realizing that history is only a foundation upon which to build.
Masland Contract is committed to creating a healthier planet for the people of
today, as well as for future generations. We believe that true design is timeless,
and that our responsibility to the environment shares an equal footing with
aesthetics. Our goal is to find the most effective and least wasteful ways to
create products from the very beginning, and that each product has the least
amount of impact on the environment throughout its entire life-cycle. By focusing
on conservation of energy, sustainable selection and efficient use of raw
materials, managing waste, and recycling, Masland is building the foundation for
the creation of a healthier planet.
We are continually striving towards creating a better planet for today as well as
tomorrow.
Our efforts embrace the use of new technologies for more efficient ways to
manufacture products, the conservation of natural resources, and the reduction
of landfill waste. Everything we do has an impact on our planet, and we are
committed to creating the smallest possible footprint on the environment.
As we move into the future, Masland will continue to expand on their
commitment to our planet, in order to create beautiful products, as well as
creating a healthierplanet.
Masland Contract is committed to creating environmentally friendly products
from the very beginning. Whenever possible, we partner with suppliers
within our 500 mile radius, in order to foster business for our local
communities, as well as reducing transportation costs.
Our primary nylon supplier is Invista, whose Antron Legacy and Antron
Lumena fibers are both certified as Environmentally Preferable Products
(EPP). The certification is provided by Scientific Certified System, a third
party authorized to verify environmental claims.
The EPP rating looks at the Total Environmental Impact of a product
throughout its life cycle and compares it to similar products.Masland
broadloom uses Hardwear™ Plus, Permalok™ & Unilok™ backings, which
contain a highly refined recovered mineral endorsed by the U.S. E.P.A.
known as Celceram®.
Masland Contract believes in working smarter to create our products, and eliminating
wasteful production methods. We have initiated a program in our tufting facilities to
reclaim waste yarn by rewinding short ends of yarn at the completion of production
cycles. By combining these short lots of yarn and returning them to manufacturing for
tufting, more than 330,000 pounds of yarn per year is recycled back into our
manufacturing processes.
As of 2005, Masland began sending all of our carpet and yarn manufacturing waste
to reclamation centers. This diverts approximately 100,000 pounds of post-industrial
carpet from the landfill. Uses for the re-claimed carpet range from manufacturing of
padding for under carpet, automobile parts and roof shingles among other products.
Since 1999, reductions in natural gas and water used for the dyeing of yarn and
carpet and the finishing of carpet have been reduced 22% and 17 % respectively. In
addition, electricity has been reduced by 26% during the same time period Since
1999, reductions in natural gas and water used for the dyeing of yarn and carpet and
the finishing of carpet have been reduced 22% and 17 % respectively. In addition,
electricity has been reduced by 26% during the same time period.
The Power of Green Masland is continually searching for alternative energy
sources, in order to conserve the natural resources of our planet. As part of this
effort, we have committed to an annual purchase of over twenty-two million
kilowatt hours of clean, carbon-neutral wind energy from Colorado-based
Renewable Choice Energy.
By purchasing REC’s (Renewable Energy Credits) Masland is guaranteeing that
more renewable energy will be released into the national power grid, replacing
power that would have otherwise been generated by coal or gas.
Masland Contract has also partnered with the Dow ™ Chemical Company to
begin using greener energy for powering the manufacturing processes of latex
used for carpet backings. The Dow™ LOMAX™ Technology uses reclaimed
methane gas from landfills as a renewable energy source, which will result in a
significant reduction of green house gas emissions.
Moving Towards a Greener Future Masland is actively working
towards creating a greener tomorrow for our future generations. The
War on Waste program has empowered our employees to generate
effective ways of eliminating waste. From recycling paper, plastic
and aluminum cans to advancements in the energy efficiency of
machinery, Masland Contract has generated a respect for nature
that will ensure a safer environment for the future.
Waste elimination programs in place include the reduction in the
amount of custom samples produced in the preliminary stages of
product selection. In place of initial custom samples, we have
instituted recyclable CAD renderings to assist the design community
in its selection process before moving to a full-scale custom sample.
This measure will eliminate more than 30,000 pounds of yarn waste
per year. Masland Contract offers a sample recycling program for
customers to return their samples, or those from any other
manufacturer, for recycling.A self addressed, postage paid label
accompanies all sample orders from Masland Contract. By this joint
effort of our customers returning samples and Masland recycling the
swatches, we can avoid more materials going into landfills. We are
proud to be a corporate sponsor of The Carpet America Recovery
Effort. CARE is the joint industry/government effort dedicated to
increasing the amount of recycling and reuse of post-consumer
carpet and reducing the amount of waste carpet going to landfills.
Thanks to CARE, over one billion pounds of recovered carpet has
been reused or recycled since the group was founded in 2002.
