A labyrinth is a flat design with a single winding path from the outer edge to the center. Labyrinth walking practices have been used globally for centuries for meditation, reflection, prayer, healing, and personal/spiritual development.

Labyrinths were often built into stone floors of medieval European cathedrals. A 12th century labyrinth in France’s Chartres Cathedral is the most famous, walked by thousands. Urbana Park District’s Crystal Lake Labyrinth is a perfect replica of the Chartres labyrinth, used for local labyrinth walking.

Mindful Labyrinth Walking is a fusion of traditional labyrinth walking with easy Alexander Technique mindfulness practices. Mindful Labyrinth Walking practices require no skill or prior experience. Alexander Technique teacher and Veriditas Labyrinth Facilitator Rebecca Ferguson has taught Mindful Labyrinth Walking since 2009, focusing on issues such as PTSD, stress, and addiction. This class will meet at the Large Pavilion in Crystal Lake Park. Bring a hat and water bottle. Rain date for this activity is Saturday, September 21.

Step tracking is one of the easiest and most fulfilling ways to keep tabs on your daily activity. In this FREE wellness workshop, you’ll learn how to utilize popular step tracking apps such as Apple health and Google Fit. You will also learn about the general benefits of walking, how to track daily food and water intake, and how to create a personalized daily step goal.

During the second half of the workshop, we will cover information pertaining to popular fitness wearables such as Fitbit and Garmin. These devices can track more than steps, in fact, many of the showcased wearables can track anything from exercise (such as yoga, weight-lifting, and swimming) to the length and quality of your sleep! A Q&A will be hosted at the end of the workshop and there will be plenty of time after for one-on-one setup of the aforementioned fitness tracking apps.

Attend any class that accommodates your schedule. Passes may be used for all fitness classes in their category. Pre-registered participants get priority of class space. Meet the InstructorClarissa Moore-Logan

Clarissa Moore-Logan is a certified personal trainer who has been working with clients since 2013 and leading group fitness classes in Urbana for the past two years. Clarissa’s love of fitness began at an early age, waking up before dawn to do Jane Fonda workouts on VHS with her mother every weekday morning. From that her passion for dance, sports, and all things fitness grew. After graduating high school, Clarissa went on to study exercise science at EIU and started teaching group fitness classes. She feels that the group fitness setting is wonderful because it allows people to add variety to their routine in a supportive and fun environment. This year she has begun teaching an assortment of strength classes and water classes for the Urbana Park District. No matter what the class, participants can expect an effective hour-long workout including strength training and aerobic conditioning that will improve your physical and mental well being.
