FACILITIES AND EQUIPMENT

1 PLAYING AREA
1.1 DIMENSIONS
For FIVB, World and Of>cial Competit ions, the f ree zone is a
minimum of 5 m and a maximum of 6 m f rom the end lines/side
lines. The free playing space shall measure a minimum of 12.5 m
in height f rom the playing surface.
1.2 PLAYING SURFACE
For FIVB, World and Of>cial Compet it ions, the sand must be at
least 40 cm deep and composed of >ne loosely compacted grains.
For FIVB, World and Of>cial Compet it ions, the sand should also
be sif ted to an acceptable size, not too coarse, and f ree of stones
and dangerous part icles. It should not be too >ne to cause dust
and st ick to the skin.
For FIVB, World and Of>cial Competit ions, a tarp to cover the
central court is recommended in case of rain.

For FIVB, World and Of>cial Competit ions, an 8.0 m net w ith
smaller meshes and brandings displayed betw een the ends of
the net and the posts may be used, provided that the visibility
of the athletes and of>cials w ill be preserved. Publicity may be
printed on the above items as per FIVB regulat ions.

3.1 STANDARDS
3.2 UNIFORMITY OF BALLS
FIVB, World and Of>cial Compet it ions must be played w ith FIVB
approved balls, unless by agreement of FIVB.
3.3 THREE-BALL SYSTEM
For FIVB, World and Of>cial Competit ions, three balls shall be
used. In this case, six ball ret rievers are stat ioned one at each
corner of the f ree zone and one behind each referee.

4 TEAMS
4.1 TEAM COMPOSITION
For FIVB, World and Of>cial Compet it ions, players are not allowed
to receive external assistance or coaching during a match.
4.2 LOCATION OF THE TEAM

For FIVB, World and Of>cial Competit ions, players of a given
team must w ear uniforms of the same colour and style according
to tournament regulat ions. Player’s uniforms must be clean.
