Perhaps arrive a day early and “play” at the Atlantis Resort
and Marina before you start the real adventure of the Exumas. Then board in Atlantis Marina.
Take a short cruise to Rose Island (6mn) and settle in for a mid-afternoon lunch. Then put some toys in the water, have
fun, snorkel and soak up some sun. In the evening unwind in
the islands breeze sipping on a Bahama-mama cocktail while
enjoying dinner.

This the Headquarters for the Exuma
Cays Land and Sea Park. There are a wide
variety of naturally occurring ecosystems
and over 7 miles of trials that cross the
island. A skeleton of a 53’ Sperm Whale
(that died after swallowing a plastic bag)
lies hear the park office. The southwest
end of the island, called Pirate‘s Lair, is
the former pirates hangout.
Stromatolites, an ancient and very rare
form of early life on earth, lie the sand
bank between the two cays. A nature
trail leads from the beach and goes by a
fresh water spring the pirates used.
Numerous snorkeling and exploring
opportunities abound in this area.
Compass Cay is a small privately-owned island. The owner will let day trippers at the marina for $5. Surrounding the dock are the resident nurse sharks. The sharks are “tame” and will tolerate people
petting them and getting into the water to swim with them. You can also buy some frozen fish at the marina to hand feed the sharks. Swimming with the nurse sharks is an excellent activity in and of itself, so treat yourself to this adrenaline rush. Following a loosely marked trail is Rachel’s Bubble
Bath. This crystal clear deep-water hole is fed by the rushing Atlantic Ocean.

Visit shroud Cay in the morning, an uninhabited cay owned by Exuma Park, is an archipelago of cays and rocks surrounding a shallow tidal mangrove saline which serves as a unique nursery for conch, crawfish (lobster), sea
turtles, birds and many varieties of fish. The tidal creek to the north of Shroud Cay is very shallow and should be explored only at Idle Speed/No
wake on a rising tide to avoid being stranded in your tender.
