In accordance with theobligatory harmonization in theEuropean Community, thenational standards of themember countries conformto IEC 60 298.
Type of service location
NX PLUS switchgear can beused as an indoor installation inaccordance with VDE 0101:
• Outside closed electricaloperating areas in locationsnot accessible to the generalpublic. Tools are requiredto remove switchgearenclosures.
• In closed electrical operatingareas. A closed electricaloperating area is a room orarea which is used solely forthe operation of electricalinstallations. This type ofarea is locked at all timesand accessible only toauthorized trained personneland other skilled staff.Untrained or unskilled per-sons must be accompaniedby authorized personnel.
Internal arc test, resistanceto internal arcs
Internal arc test
Tests have been carried outwith NX PLUS switchgear, inorder to verify its behaviourunder conditions of internalarcing.
The resistance to internalarcing complies with therequirements of
• VDE 0670, Part 6,Appendix AA
• IEC 60298, Appendix AA
Resistance to internal arcs
The possibility of faults in theNX PLUS fixed-mountedcircuit-breaker switchgear ismuch less than in previoustypes, due to the single-poleenclosure of external compo-nents and the SF6 insulationof the switchgear:
• All external fault-causingfactors have beeneliminated, such as:
– Pollution deposits– Moisture– Small animals and foreign
bodies
• Maloperations are preventedby the clear, logical layout ofthe operating elements
• The three-position switchand the vacuum circuit-breaker provide short-circuit-proof earthing of the feeder
Should arcing occur in spite ofthis, the pressure is relievedtowards the rear into a duct.
In the improbable event of afault inside the module contai-ner, the SF6 insulation restrictsthe arc energy to only about 1/3of that for air. The pressure-relief facility in the rear panelof the module container isdesigned to operate in an over-pressure range of 2 to 3.5 bar.The gases are dischargedtowards the rear into a duct.
The pressure-relief duct divertsthe gases upwards.
Protection against electricshock, the ingress of waterand solid foreign bodies
The NX PLUS fixed-mountedcircuit-breaker switchgear isfully enclosed and entirelyunaffected by climaticinfluences.
• All medium-voltage switchingdevices are enclosed instainless steel containers,which are welded gas-tightand filled with SF6 gas.
• Live parts outside theswitchgear container aresingle-pole insulated andscreened.
• There are no points at whichleakage currents of high-voltage potential are able toflow off to earth.
• All essential components ofthe operating mechanismare made of non-corrodingmaterials.
Climate and ambientconditions
The NX PLUS fixed-mountedcircuit-breaker switchgearoffers the following degrees ofprotection:
• IP3XD for external enclosure
• IP65 for parts underhigh voltage
in accordance with:

– IEC 60298 with IEC 60529
