  • Flexi EDGE Sector ModuleSector module is a logical unit consisting of 2 building blocks:Dual TRX (DTRX) module Dual duplexer moduleMinimum one Sector module is needed per sectorThere is space for 1-2 optional Wideband combiner (WBC) submodules in DTRX moduleFor 4-way UL diversity 2 Sector modules are needed per sector Both units fit into a 3HU casing3HU

  • Nokia Flexi EDGE System Extension Module (ESEA, 3HU)System extension module is required for large BTS configurations (System module for 1-6 DTRX, System extension module for 7-12 DTRX)System extension module is always required for RTC configurationsAll TRXs must be connected to same system module for BB hoppingThe functionalities of System extension module:Power distribution to additional modules (i.e. DTRX 7-12). Power distribution part has six 48V outputsProviding 12 Ethernet and synchronization connections to DTRX (DTRX 1-12) and 1 connection to System modulePDU (power distribution unit) 48V intake

12x Ethernet to DTRXPDU (power distribution unit) 6x48V to other modulesEthernet to System module

  • ESMA compared to ESEAECxA 1-3ESMA on its own controls TRXs..When ESEA is used, the ESEA controls the TRXs- The ESMA now is used only for the ECxAs (RTC)

  • Nokia Flexi EDGE RTC Module, cavity combining (ECxA, 4HU)Optional RTC module for ETSI frequency bands combines max 6 TRX/antennaMin 1 RTC per sector is neededRTC provides: Combining of up to 6 TX signals to same antenna feederDuplex functionality to combine TX and RX signals to same antenna feeder Multicoupling2 antenna connections (for 1 or 2 sectors)6 TX inputs and 3+3 RX outputs (3 RX from antenna 1 and 3 RX from antenna 2)RTC module contains: 6 tunable cavity combiner2 Low Noise Amplifiers (LNAs) for RX signal2 duplex filter2 Bias-Ts with VSWR measurement functionalityTRX loop is controlled through the RTC Loop can be performed from 6 TX to any of 6 RX outputs (only 1 TX and 1 RX can be simultaneously tested)DTRX connected to system module via single Gigabit Ethernet interfacePower feed from system module via single cableHU = 44.4 mm

  • Nokia Flexi EDGE BTS powering: distributed power supplySystem module distributes power to other modulesAll modules generate own internal voltagesBTS powering may be supplied from:Nokia Flexi Power AC/DC module (with or without battery) providing 48VDC input to the power distributionNokia Flexi Power DC/DC module (24/48VDC)Integrated long term battery back-up (MIBBU)Standard Site support cabinet

  • Nokia Flexi Power Module (FPMA, 3HU)Power module provides the casing and cable connectors for 4 power sub-modulesinput / output terminals, output DC and alarm cablesPower AC-DC sub-module (FPAA)230V AC 48V DC converter04 FPAA per Power module; 1kW power eachincludes AC-filtersBattery sub-module (FPBA)gives minute-level back-up when AC mains are down04 FPBA per Power module (except how can they be charged?)

FPMA with 3 AC/DC sub-modules and 1 Flexi Power Battery

  • Nokia Flexi Power DC-DC 24V Module (FPDA, 2HU)Optional DC/DC converts from external 24V DC to internal 48V DC1 DC-DC module gives up to 2kW power Useful in swap-out scenarios48DCV output24 V DC input

In this section, the individual module functionalities will be explained in more detail. As will be seen, a minimum system can be build with Required modules only (however, there can be a little confusion at this issue with the Dual Duplexer module) {Emphasise that this is NOT the same unit as in Flexi WCDMA }This unit is central to FlexiEDGE BTS. {See slide for functionality}SW download and storing will store 2 sets of BTS S/W

Substantially equivalent to two UltraSite TSxBs (i.e., EDGE-capable). Full specifications of this is at the end of the module configurationsThe Flexi EDGE BTS wideband combiner consists of a 2-way power combiner, isolators on each input, unit mechanics, and a combined power output port. There are two input connectors TxA and TxB and one output connector TxOut. The wideband combiner also includes a phase detector, which provides the phase differential of the inputs through the DP output. The unit includes 50-Ohm terminations and a heat sink for thermal dissipation.Connectors:TxA, TxB, and Tx Out are QMA type female connectors DP connector type: 4 pin microfit (3.0) Dual row (e.g. Molex 43045-0423)

System Extension module will allow for the maximum 24 carriers (TRX) by supporting 12 DTRX units.

    More on this slide later..

This unit is only made for the ETSI (i.e., non-American) market. Customer feedback from the Americas was that it wasnt required. RTC gives coverage, but the ANSI market is more interested in capacity. Of course, this may change who knows? ;-)As will be seen in the next module, Configurations, this module will always require the use of a System Extension module (ESEA)The RTC (or ECxA, where x denotes the frequency band) can only be used in cabinet installations for two reasons:Its very heavy, and could not be used in a stack installation (because of earthquake provisions) or a pole configuration too much load on the plinth. No 4HU casing has been made for the Flexi family of basestations.

Note that all modules are powered from minus 48V (telecom. Standard) and generate their own power requirements internally.
