flextone® Game Calls was established in 1997 when Tom Wiley the founder of flextone® game calls, while working as a Registered Nurse in the Emergency Room, transformed a piece of surgical tubing into a more natural sounding duck call. As a lifelong avid hunter, Wiley was always looking for a more natural sounding game call. He realized that you could produce a more natural sounding call by building a call out of materials that more accurately imitated the soft flexible tissue in the vocalization anatomy of a game animal. Animals produce sound by vibrating vocal cords in a hard cartilage voice box called a larynx or syrinx depending on the type of animal. The sound generated in the voice box then travels through chambers of soft tissue in the neck and mouth and eventually out of the mouth of a game animal. It is in these soft flexible chambers that animals give inflection and meaning to the vocalizations they make.

flextone® Game Calls are designed to more accurately mimic the anatomy of a game animal by using both hard and soft flexible parts. They incorporate a hard plastic or metal tone-board or sound chamber with latex or plastic reeds to imitate the voice box and vocal cords while using soft flexible chambers of plastic, vinyl, or rubber to imitate the soft tissue chambers of the neck and mouth of an animal. The design produces a truer, more natural sound as well as giving the user more control of volume, tone, and inflection just like the animals they were designed to imitate. The call’s design is also nearly silent if accidentally comes in contact with gun or bow while in the field, reducing the threat of scaring the animals hunted.

Flextone’s Ground Grunt’R includes a 30 ft. hose and patent pending sound chamber emitter, which allows gun or bow hunters to emit buck grunts up to 60 ft. away (with additional 30 ft. extension hose-sold separately) from their hunting location. No more calling from your tree stand and having deer look straight up at you in the tree. The Ground Grunt’R allows the hunter to either lower the device down to ground level from the tree stand location or have hose pre-set away from hunting location away from tree or near decoy. When blown, the sounds defer all the deer’s attention away from the hunter up in the tree or ground blind, allowing for minimal movements such as pulling a bow back, aiming of gun or range finding distances.

When it comes to Uncle Si Robertson and calling deer, he wants nothing but the easiest and most productive sound-ing call available. When Si first saw the Flextone Black Rack and started rattling with them, he immediately fell in love with them. He said, “These makes total sense, JACK!” He loved the fact that it was two complete set of racks, just like two mature bucks fighting. Not two half racks trying to make fighting sounds. The black color would help conceal his movements afield during rattling sequences. The Bone Core Technology, which resembles real bone marrow found in antlers, duplicated precise tones of real antlers crashing and rattling during major fights of mature bucks. Finally, Si loved the handle design as it virtually eliminates the possibility of his fingers getting smashed during the aggressive crashing of the Black Rack. Its smaller port hole provides added back pressure, allowing the caller to scream louder and longer Hail Calls and Comeback Calls for longer series without running out of air. Open water hunting is very demanding as calling sequences must carry farther as flocks can be seen at greater distances. Abe and Son Elk Calls was founded by Ralph “Abe” Meline in 1990. Based in Coos Bar, OR at the thime, Ralph Meline was a logger and cutter for 40 years by trade. His love and passion for hunting began in 1963 as he began hunting mule deer and small game. It wasn’t until 1975 when he began bow hunting elk, did his addiction with calling elk into close range start. For the next 15 years, Ralph or “Abe” affectionately called by his friends and customers due to his similar looks to Abe Lincoln, began designing elk calls that made his elk hunting experiences more successful.

Abe paid close attention to the elk vocabulary and was obsessed at duplicating the precise tone, pitch and sounds of bulls, cows and calves through elk calls that he designed. Abe’s incredible ear for hearing and duplicating ekl sounds allowed him to play with different materials and components to achieve perfectly matched sounds made by elk. Abe used latex reeds that were very versatile as it allowed the hunter to stretch the reed to thier particular style of calling. Abe realized it was much easier for the hunter to change the reeds to their way of calling, verses forcing the hunter to change their way of calling based upon a pre-stretched reed or mylar reed.

Abe designed recessed back plates in conjunction with the latex reeds to make it easier to change the tone and pitch of the various sounds that elk make. By simply changing the depth or width of the back plates, it allowed the hunter to easily achieve high pitch bugles to deep growls of any age of bulls or the high pitched chips to deeps mew of herd talk between cows and their calves. These elements are whate make Abe and Son Elk Calls different yet far superior over other brands of elk calls.
