Signing up
• It is a simple process• There isn’t even a
check box for you to tick if you agree with the terms and privacy policy.
• It is assumed you agree when you sign up.
Terms of Services (TOS)
• Flickr is a service offered by Yahoo! - Let’s take a look at some portions of the TOS as stipulated by Yahoo!
• And you have to be prepared to live without the service if you do not agree with any of it.
Do you know…..
• One is subject to the TOS as long as the services are utilized, whether or not an account with Yahoo is created.
• The TOS may be updated at the discretion of Yahoo at any time and continued use of services is equated as acceptance of the new terms.
• The user has the responsibility to understand the most current TOS at all times.
The user is obliged to…
a) Provide true, accurate, current and complete information about himself.
b) Be solely responsible for the content uploaded, posted, transmitted or otherwise made available via Yahoo!
c) Agree to conduct himself in an appropriate manner as indicated through 18 guidelines, which were meant to help provide a safe and lawful environment for users.
d) Comply with all local rules regarding online conduct and acceptable content (obeying the law of the land).
If Yahoo! suspects any information is untrue or inaccurate, they reserve the right to suspend or terminate the account.
WHY?
On the topic of Privacy, Yahoo!...
1. collects personal information when and combine that with information they obtain from business partners or other companies.
2. receives and records information from the computer and browser, including the IP address, Yahoo! cookie information, software and hardware attributes and the page requested for.
They reserve the right to use the informationfor advertising purposes.
“..when you register with Yahoo! and sign in to our services, you are not anonymous to us.” - Yahoo!
Copyright issues
Users have to decide what license to give their photos upon upload.
Copyright issues
If one believes his intellectual property has been infringed, Yahoo! proposes for the parties to resolve it amongst themselves.
Should that fail, they have legal mechanisms which may result in the guilty accounts in being disabled or terminated.
With regards to photos submitted…
You give Yahoo! worldwide, royalty-free, transferable and non-exclusive license to use, distribute, reproduce, modify, publish, broadcast, adapt, publicly perform and publicly display such Content on the Service.
which means
They can use your photos for free for their own purposes in
line with their terms.NOTE: This is slightly different from the TOS of Facebook, Instagram and Twitter woth regards to media posted on their sites.
