The course is structured over a seven week period. A Senior Instructor is allocated to the course for its duration to ensure maxi- mum training benefit. Course Structure Airborne lessons comprise of 30 hours with a Senior Instructor and 20 hours flying with a Trainee Instructor on the course. The majority of flying is under- taken in a Cessna 152 Aerobat, with a Cessna 172 being used for the navigation component of the course. During the course, you will be trained in the following areas: • Principles and methods of flight instruction • Principles of flight • Teaching briefs • Airborne teaching techniques • Post flight debriefs • Fault analysis and remedial training Course Material A number of theory sources are required for the Instructor Rating Course. These include: • Mechanics of Flight, AC Ker- mode • Basic Aeronautical Knowledge (BAK), T Thom • The Flying Training Manual, T Thom • Aviation Instructors Hand- book, US FAA Course Duration Seven weeks, full time. Entrance Requirements Applicants need to ensure they have suc- cessfully completed an Australian CASA Commercial Pilot Licence and have fu- lilled the satisfactory requirements of the PMI (Principle Methods of Instruction) exam prior to the commencement of the course. They must also have completed ei- ther an approved Integrated CPL Part 142 course (150 hours in total) or for non-inte- grated students, 200 hours flying in total, of which 100 hours is in command. Pricing The estimated cost the Flight Instructor Rating Course is $18,640 ex GST not in clusive of landing fees or flight tests. This price may de-crease or increase during the course in line with variable costs such as fuel. Additional flights and briefing over the stated course structure to achieve the re- quired standard will be charged at the applicable Royal Aero Club training rate (member or non- member). CASA Test fees are not included in the course cost. Students should allow $1,200.00 for the Flight Test with CASA. An additional $160.70 exam registration fee for the ASPEQ PMI exam, required to be completed prior to course commencement.
