ORALDEPARTMFINTinwhichspeech
andlip-reading
aretaught.If,however,
aftera
thoroughand
patienttrialwhich
mayextendoverseveral
terms,it
becomes
apparentthatthe
pupilcan
notbeso
instructed,andhis
mentaldevelopment
consequentlyretarded,heistransferred
totheMANUAL
DEPARTMENT.Inotherwordsfor
thechild'sgood
anditseducation
wemakethemethodfit
thechild;notthechild,themethod.
Thereshouldbeno
misunderstandingastothe
recognition,
thisschoolextendstothe
methodsof
teachingarticulation
andlip-reading.Itisusedwhenever
andwherever
satis-
factory,beneficialandpractical
resultscanbe
obtained.
Morethan
onehalfthescholarsare
instructedintheoral
method,andhence
parentsneedhaveno
feariftheirchild
drenhavethe
necessaryabilityoftheirnot
beingtaught
“howtotalk.”
Thisschool
recognizesno
specialdirectionof
religious
belief.Itis
absolutelynon-denominational.Therightof
parentsto
suggestanddesire
churchaffiliationsfortheir
childrenisfullyand
cheerfullyrecognized.
