THE NATIONAL DISASTER MANAGEMENT OFFICE (NDMO) - FIJI
SEALEGS amphibious craft have proven to be a critical fleet asset by many rescue and response
organizations worldwide including the New Zealand Coastguard, Thai Navy, Malaysian Fire Department,
Italian Fire Department, Jacksonport Fire Department (USA), Australian Parks and Wildlife, Victorian State
Emergency Services, the Indian Police Force, Air Services Australia, Indonesian Flood Rescue and more.

NDMO is the established coordinating Centre for the Fiji Government in times of Natural Disasters. When powerful tropical cyclones and associated flooding strike, the impact on communities can be significant.
In June, 2017, NDMO took delivery of four customised SEALEGS amphibious craft to support wider emergency services working across Fiji, improving response capability in maritime environments.
SEALEGS complement Fiji’s excellent emergency response systems and boost their disaster response capacity, and have already been put to use following the damage caused by tropical Cyclones in 2018. SEALEGS transported assessment teams to and from remote villages around Kadavu, examining damage made by the Cyclones. The vessels were also used to carry emergency relief supplies such as water, food and building materials.

Securing 1,400 km of Malaysia’s east coast of Sabah from Kudat to Tawau following the 2013 invasion crisis, while at the same time ensuring that trade and business activity are not affected.
ESSCOM have two mobile seabases, a permanent seabase, two island forward operating bases and a large fleet of
patrol boats, which SEALEGS are now a part of.
In 2016, SEALEGS delivered five highly specialised 7.7m Full Width Console RIB craft to ESSCOM to use as patrol craft. These craft were built to purpose with the demands of the ESSCOM project in mind.
Bomba is an active department fighting fires and humanitarian efforts related to floods and flood rescue.
In December 2014, severe flooding in Malaysia tragically took lives and displaced a further 200,000 residents. Bomba’s fleet of 18 SEALEGS craft were used extensively in the weeks and months following the floods to transport people and supplies and to perform rescues. SEALEGS amphibious capability allowed The Sultan of Perak - Nazrin Shah to visit the flood effected areas to view the devastation first hand and offer his support.
In August, 2015, added five SEALEGS craft to provide amphibious craft to a greater area in Malaysia and in March 2018, the Malaysian Government ordered 23 more SEALEGS craft to further bolster their amphibious fleet.
Bomba have been extending the size of their Sealegs fleet to meet the ever-growing demand for amphibious craft in the region. The technology is perfect for the conditions they are working in, allowing them to respond to emergencies in times unmatched by any other waterborne technology.

Amphibious SEALEGS are powered on land by an inboard engine which drives steerable, hydraulic motorized wheels with enough torque to handle a variety of surfaces and obstacles with confidence. On demand, the wheels retract or extend, and SEALEGS swiftly transforms from an all-terrain vehicle into a high-speed powerboat.
The complete system is built into a specially designed and strengthened vehicle/hull chassis to give users a fully integrated, turn-key package.
