General education core course options shatl consist of a maximum of five courses within each of the subject areas of communication, mathematics, sociat sciences, humanities, and natural sciences. The core courses may be revised, or the five-course maximum within each subject area may be exceeded, if approved by the State Board of Education and the Board of Governors, as recommended by the subject area facutty committee and approved by the Articutation Coordinating Committee as necessary for a subject area. Each generat education core course option must contain high-tevel academic and critical thinking skitts and common competencies that students must demonstrate to successfulty comptete the course. Beginning with students initiatty entering a Ftorida Cottege System institution or state university in 2015-2016 and thereafter, each student must comptete at teast one identified core course in each subject area as part of the general education course requirements. Att public postsecondary educational institutions shatl accept these courses as meeting genera[ education core course requirements. The remaining generat education course requirements shatl be identified by each institution and reported to the department by their statewide course number. The general education core course options shatt be adopted in rute by the State Board of Education and in regutation by the Board of Governors. (4) The department shatt identify those courses offered by universities and accepted for credit toward a degree. The department shatl identify courses designated as either general education or required as a prerequisite for a degree. The courses shatt be identified by their statewide course numbers. (5) The department shalt identify common prerequisite courses and course substitutions for degree programs across att institutions. Common degree program prerequisites shall be offered and accepted by att state universities and Ftorida College System institutions, except in cases approved by the State Board of Education for Ftorida Cottege System institutions and the Board of Governors for state universities. The department shatl devetop a centratized database containing the list of courses and course substitutions that meet the prerequisite requirements for each baccataureate degree program. (6) The universities and Ftorida Cottege System institutions shatl work with their schoot districts to ensure that high school curricula coordinate with the genera[ education curricuta and to prepare students for cottege-tevet work.     institution and include 36 semester hours in the subject areas of communication, mathematics, socialsciences, humanities, and natura[ sciences.

    (71 An associate in arts degree shatt require no more than 60 semester hours of cottege credit and include36 semester hours of generat education coursework. Beginning with students initialty entering a FtoridaCottege System institution or state university in2014-2Q15 and thereafter, coursework for an associate in artsdegree sha[[ inctude demonstration of competency in a foreign language pursuant to s. 1007.267. Except fordevetopmentateducation required pursuant to s. 1008.30, alt required coursework shatl count toward theassociate in arts degree or the baccataureate degree.

    (8) A baccataureate degree program shatt require no more than 120 semester hours of cottege credit andinctude 36 semester hours of generat education coursework, untess prior approval has been granted by the

    Board of Governors for baccataureate degree programs offered by state universities and by the State Board ofEducation for baccataureate degree programs offered by Ftorida Cotlege System institutions.

    (9) A student who received an associate in arts degree for successfutty compteting 60 semester credithours may continue to earn additionat credits at a Ftorida Cottege System institution. The university mustprovide credit toward the student's baccataureate degree for an additionat Ftorida Coltege System institutioncourse if, according to the statewide course numbering, the Ftorida Cotlege System institution course is acourse [isted in the university catatog as required for the degree or as prerequisite to a course required forthe degree. Of the courses required for the degree, at least hatf of the credit hours required for the degreeshatl be achievable through courses designated as lower division, except in degree programs approved by the

    State Board of Education for programs offered by Ftorida Cottege System institutions and by the Board ofGovernors for programs offered by state universities.

    (10) Students at state universities may request associate in arts certificates if they have successfu[tycompteted the minimum requirements for the degree of associate in arts (A.A.). The university must grantthe student an associate in arts degree if the student has successfutty compteted minimum requirements forcottege-tevet communication and computation skitts adopted by the State Board of Education and 60academic semester hours or the equivatent within a degree program area, including 36 semester hours ingeneral education courses in the subject areas of communication, mathematics, social sciences, humanities,and naturat sciences, consistent with the general education requirements specified in the articutationagreement pursuant to s. 1007.23.

    (11) The Commissioner of Education shatt appoint facutty committees representing both Florida CotlegeSystem institution and pubtic school facutties to recommend to the commissioner for approvat by the StateBoard of Education a standard program tength and appropriate occupationa[ comptetion points for eachpostsecondary career certificate program, diptoma, and degree offered by a schoot district or a FLoridaCottege System institution.
