As cut and cover activities advance on Flower Street, decking from the 5th Stintersection to 6th St is anticipated to begin Friday, September 8, at 7 pm to Monday,September 11, at 5 am. Weekend decking closures will be in place for approximately 11weekends, excluding Veterans Day and Thanksgiving Day weekends. Work will progresssouth, from the 5th St intersection to 6th St.

6TH ST CLOSURE UPDATEOver 120 linear feet of conduit has beenlaid, encased, and backfilled as powerrelocation reaches 30% completion, on theleast congested portion of the 6thSt/Flower St work zone in the FinancialDistrict. The remaining sections will bemore time-intensive due to spacelimitations and conflicts with existingutilities. Power work continues incoordination with LADWP including conduitinstallation onsite.

GO METRO TO NISEI WEEK 2017,AUGUST 19–27

The 77th Annual Nisei Week JapaneseFestival starts this weekend in LittleTokyo! Beginning Saturday, August 19,with the Grand Parade, through Sunday,August 27, this year’s Nisei Week family-friendly festivities center on the theme of“Ohana, Bringing Community Together.”The Grand Parade will feature traditionaltaiko drum performers and the newlycrowned 2017 Nisei Week queen and court.

TBM SUCCESSFULLY RETRIEVED

Angeli, the Regional Connector’s tunnelboring machine (TBM), completed its firstof two tunnels in July in downtown LosAngeles. The cutter head and shield wereretrieved and hauled back to Little Tokyofor crews to reassemble the machine. TheTBM will begin building the second tunnelin early October.

Traffic on Flower St between 3rd and 5th Sthas been reconfigured and will remainthrough early next year while cut-and-cover activities continue below deck.

REGIONAL CONNECTOR MEET THEARTIST AND INTERACTIVE WORKSHOP

Join artist Audrey Chan, whose work will bepart of the future Regional Connector LittleTokyo/Arts District Station, for aninteractive workshop on August 19 and 20from noon to 3 pm at the JapaneseAmerican Cultural & Community Center(JACCC) Plaza.

Explore images from L.A.’s past, presentand future in an allegorical landscape,engage in conversation and add your owndrawings to a collective scene.
