Dear parents and carers, At Flowerdale Primary School we provide an extensive range of activities and opportunities for our students which other schools may not experience. Due to our small size and local community transport, we can provide low cost excursions to sporting, cultural and curriculum based events. We endeavour to keep costs to a minimum and many activities are subsidised by kind donations from community groups and individuals. We are very grateful to the Flowerdale Women’s Group, who have just made a $260 donation to our school to assist with costs for excursions. Earlier this year we also received a donation of $10 per student to pay for all students to participate in the Life Education Program which will take place in September. We have also received donations from individuals and groups who wish to remain anonymous. The wider community are great supporters of our little school and we thank them for their interest in the education of our students. So please, when you receive notices for these events please return the permission forms and money promptly so that we can continue to offer these excursions and events. If you have any difficulty making payments please see me, or Cherie to discuss a payment plan. Mother’s Day Bash When Shelley told me the students were going to run a pamper
night for their mums for Mother’s Day, I thought how will this work? Wow, what a fun night we all shared. The students were
amazing massagers, hand and foot rubbers and slightly dubious make-up artists. They happily served sandwiches and snacks and
kept busy making sure that their mum’s, grandma’s and family friends were well cared for. I would like to thank Shelley for
setting up the night with her usual creative style. The multi-
purpose room looked just like a beauty salon and sounded like one too with lots of conversation and laughter. We are planning
to run a cooking demonstration evening in Term 3, so stay tuned.

PRINCIPAL’S REPORT CONT…
Working Bee Saturday June 2, 9:00 – 12:00.
Sausage Sizzle provided! A small working party has been looking for ways
to provide a more manageable vegie garden and
an expansion of our memorial garden space. We also need to replace the worn picnic tables in front
of the F-2 classroom. To get us going we need help with moving existing borders and disassembling
picnic benches; digging out areas to be covered with weed matting and course sand; staining and
painting the small cubby and wishing well;
building the layers in nine wicking beds to be made from cut down plastic tanks. Please come
along for an hour or more and help out, as many hands make light work. You will also learn how to
make a “wicking bed” which you might like to try at home for your own vegies. So please come
along.

Week 4 & 5 2018
Hello sleuths, Since Flowerdale PS is studying living and non-living things this term, I thought I’d join in! Last weeks animal was a Camel! But what is it this week? 1. This animal lives in cold Arctic countries such as Canada, Alaska (USA), Greenland,
Norway & Russia 2. This animal is an excellent swimmer. 3. This animals has black skin under its coat which helps it to soak up the sun and keep
warm. 4. This animal is classified as ‘vulnerable’, which is a step before being an endangered
species. 5. This animal loves to eat seals, but can only catch them on the ice as the seals are too fast
in the water. Research in books and the internet and when you think you know the answer write it down AT ASSEMBLY and place it in the Jelly Bean basket. A name will be pulled out to win a prize at assembly!
Best of luck! Signing off!
CLUE: He’s with some flying friends
School Fleecy Vests are
HALF PRICE!
Great for wearing under clothes to keep
students warm.
Please see Cherie in the
office for available sizes.
PAMPER EVENING
NEW STRANGE CREATURE FOUND! The Polarkrest was found by Miss Kattness Spurk in 1993. It
lives in the alpine area of Mount Icicles. Miss Spurk was hiking
by herself when she discovered a new and strange creature. She
decided to name the new creature Polarkrest because it was found
on the crest of the tallest mountain in the Alpine Region.
A Polarkrest is a long skinny animal with pointy ears, a curly red
mane, it also has 6 skinny legs, a unicorn horn, black flapping
wings to fly over mountains and a fluffy tail. The polarkrest is
about 2 meters long, about a length of a regular lion. It eats meat,
plants and snow and drinks cold water from the melted ice.
The Polarkrest was thought to be extinct. Old research said that it
was a mammal that was warm blooded and lived in small family
groups. It was thought that the other Polarkrest were hunting when
Miss Spurk discovered the animal all alone. Scientists believe that
more animals from the family group will be found somewhere else
in the mountains.
Scientists will find more but need more money.

Hai Semua, We are half way through the term and the students have been working really well. In PE, Kojo has been visiting and teaching the students basketball skills. Each week they continue to improve and develop their skills. It is really pleasing to see. So far students have learnt how to warm up their bodies and fingers for basketball. They have learnt how to do a lay up and have been working really hard on improving this skill along with dribbling the ball. In Indonesian P-2 have been practicing their numbers up to 20. They are learning to sing “Sepuluh botol hijau”- 10 green bottles in Indonesian. Students have worked well and made a numbers book. Years 3-6 have learnt family member names. They have learnt that “nya” means his or her. They are currently working on a project (Keluarga saya- my family )where they are introducing each member of their family and writing their name. eg, this is Mum, her name is …. Ini Ibu. Namanya Jenny.
Samapai Jumpa,
Bu Cullum
Donations of cat food can be dropped in at the school and Ms Davis will take
them to the Coldstream Animal Aid.
Thank you so very much!
