Since the development of adiabatic heat rejection systems in Melbourne in 2001, global demand for such systems has risen rapidly. This has largely been driven by the need for greater energy efficiency, improved safety, and concerns about serious environmental factors. The case for Adiabatic cooling is so compelling, that although developed in Melbourne in 2001, this technology has become a mainstream product in most global markets.

Who Are we?Grant Hall and Steve Amsing, two of the founders of Australian Adiabatic Technology, have teamed up again to launch an extensive range of Adiabatic Heat Rejection systems through Adiabatics Australia.

Why Adiabatic Technology? This has really been driven by the market. Factors such as natural refrigerants, increased energy pricing and a changing climate have all changed the landscape. Arguably, there has never been amore applicable time for this technology.

What is adiabatic cooling?Adiabatic Cooling is a system where evaporation is used to lower the ambient temperature; in the case of Adiabatics Australia, pre-cooling pads are used to lower the air temperature on approach to the heat rejection coil. These changed conditions have the effect of enabling refrigeration and air conditioning systems to operate much more efficiently. As a result, plants employing adiabatic heat rejection systems, can operate much more efficiently, with increased plant performance and reliability.

Adiabatic heat rejection systems offer many benefits across most sectorsHealthcare and Commercial Buildings – concerns about Legionnaires disease and excessive water consumption

Supermarkets – increase in plant performance and reliability, coupled with the move to natural refrigerants (CO2 Gas Cooling)

Industrial Refrigeration – energy efficiency, compliance and lower running costs

Data Centres and Animal Husbandry – use of adiabatic free cooling (WetWall)

Can the performance of an existing Air-Cooled Condenser (or Fluid Cooler) be enhanced by the addition of Adiabatic Pre-Coolers?The addition of adiabatic pre-coolers to existing units can have a profound impact on efficiency, performance and plant reliability. This is quite common in the retail sector, particularly if more refrigeration capacity is required or where reliability and energy efficiencies are of concern.

What about Chiller Performance? In many cases, chiller performance can be greatly enhanced via the use of adiabatic pre-cooling.

Is there a strong Business Case for Adiabatic Heat Rejection?Although this depends on individual circumstances, there is generally a strong case to support the use of Adiabatic systems. With growing concerns about climate, rapid increases in the cost of energy, the cost of compliance and the reduction in potential health risks.
