HOW DOES IT WORK? This system of RomanizedSaskt has been widely used for at least 75 years.However it has not been propagated much, nor wasthere a simple method of teaching it. Thus not manypeople have taken advantage of it so far. Although itlooks like English, it is perfectly phonetic, just like Tamiland other Indian languages.

This method removes the fear and need of having tolearn innumerable new alphabets, rules and patterns.

PHONETICS BUILDS I.Q.

English spelling is not phonetic.Therefore, in dictionaries, after each

word we find symbols in bracketswhich tell how the word should bepronounced.

Eg. (From R. Digest Dictionary)come /km /

It's written 'c' but pronounced as a 'k'.This doesn't happen in Indian languagedictionaries - the spelling itself isperfectly phonetic. In other words,

you pronounce each syllable as it'swritten.

Such confusion in English is animpediment to learning. ModernMontessori teachers have realized thatchildrens learning ability becomesinhibited by the fear of makingmistakes if a child is told that heswrong if he writes k-a-t for cat,

when in fact hes right. Furtherconfusion arises because vowelschange their sounds (or becomesilent{?}) without warning. Just seethese:

Eg: Worn; warn; yarn.

Worn; work; wont; wood; food.

Co-opt; com; come; comet; cow; coo.

In Indian languages, each vowelhas one and only one sound no matter

where it may appear,by itself or in aword. It has been shown scientificallythat learning phonetics boosts hearingand memory, thus increasing ones I.Q.Therefore in Montessories, they teach

young children phonics but notspelling (which serves no practicalfunction!)until they are older.

A CULTURED PERSONS SPEECH

Our speech is one of the mostimportant assets that we possess. As

SRS: A BOON FOR HINDUS

wisdom of our ancestors, because allour Hindu scriptures are recorded inSaskt. As Mother Magalam,President of the Pure Life Society, says

emphatically, If every Hindu child istaught the Bhagavad Gt, there is nodoubt the child will deepen its faith inHinduism. We are failing in our dutyas a parent if we do not teach our owntreasured shastras (scriptures) to our

children.

INDIAS CULTURAL HERITAGE

All Indian languages are writtenphonetically, so they are natural andeasy to learn. Amongst the greatlanguages of India, Tamil and Sanskritstand out as the oldest and mosthighly developed. Both of them aredesigned languages, from which allthe other global languages have beenderived or evolved. This fact isaccepted by most professors oflinguistics today. Language,therefore, is one of Mother Indiasgreatest contributions to humancivilization.

The study of Linguistics in the West

EASY WAY TO LEARN TAMIL ETC.The discovery of this new method ofteaching Romanized Sanskrit by Dina-Anukampana Das is a major break-through that can help people(especially the English educatedmasses) to pick up reading theirmother tongues easily. The vastnumber of characters (alphabets) tobe memorized in Indian languages isa major stumbling block forbeginners. This problem is side-stepped in Romanized script because

it uses merely 35 letters (a fewdiacritical marks are added to thealready familiar 26 Roman alphabets)to cover all the sounds.
