Case Study - Trade Turquoise (www.tradeturquoise.com) In 2007 Turquoise Trading contracted Finance Media work on the new TT website covering the key elements of website brand, design, and feed integration/delivery. FM were tasked to deliver a CMS driven corporate website, a secure FTP solution for clients to access trade reports and a series of browser based solutions to present TT market data and fully demonstrated the capabilities of their new leading edge sub-millisecond trading platform.Yann L'Huillier CIO of Turquoise - "As acommitment to our financial community to offerreal-time Turquoise Market Data, we have beenvery keen on offering this service free of chargethrough the Turquoise web site and Finance Mediawith their impressive streaming technology allowsus to deliver a state of the art Market Dataproduct". Implementation At the core of the market data platform FM deployed high performance, resilient modular FMDM n-tier architecture. This enables the platform to readily expand and integrate with bespoke and third party applications. FMDFH tier The FMDFH handler was developed to connect to the Turquoise Trading platform with two simultaneous connections for resilience. Due to the modular nature of the FMDFH, the FMDM architecture can accept as many feed connections as required. Trading database tier All data from the feed is stored in the performance- enhanced databasetier. The database tier uses a combination of industry standard database technology and FM proprietary systems to achieve maximum throughput and resilience. It features a well tuned data model with an 6 Finance Media Europe Limited 7. extremely flexible query system allowing reporting requirements to be quickly implemented. The reports are rendered on demand and passed through the other tiers alongside real time data. The database tier features the FM orderbook server, written specifically to collate level 2 orderbook data from the feed and report front end popup and embedded orderbook data. Middleware tier The middleware tier is the FMDM request processing layer built using n + 1web server technology. The tier currently responds to applet requests and AJAX / JSON requests. Compression technologies are employed to minimise network latency. Frontend tier The frontend tier resides on the browser and is built using leading scripting technologies that allow rapid development of new user interface concepts. The front-end code ihas been optimised for fast browser loading and browser compatibility. Finance Media also developed an integrated advanced CMS (content management system) to enable Turquoise to edit portions of the web site such as market notices and press releases. Development Process Development (and on going support of the system) was conducted n accordance with Finance Media agile and RAD methodologies.7 Finance Media Europe Limited 8. Ofex 1999 to present In 1999 OFEX approached Finance Media to re-brand design, develop and operate a new website to support the companies future plans to develop into a new exchange. The project objectives The brief required our working with Ofex on re-branding, the further development of the Ofex data feed and the design and development of a new website in order to fulfil the following; 1. Increase the number of retail investors visitors tothe Ofex web site 2. Encourage greater levels of trading in Ofex listedcompanies 3. Encourage companies to seek admission 4. Act as the primary channel for promoting Ofexprice data and Ofex news service Newstrack 5. Provide support services and information toadvisors and brokers including level 2 style service 6. Showcase and support the annual Ofex awardsceremony 7. Enhance and further develop the Ofex Brand Our strategy Our early strategy involved extensive research into our understanding the Ofex proposition. We interviewed department heads, advisors and a number of investors to formulate a list of requirements. We determined that certain areas of the existing feed management and delivery technologies required enhancing and that the website should focus on three distinct user/ client groups or channels;a. Ofex listed companiesb. Investorsc. Professional Advisors Results Five months form contract, with our partners we had created a new OFEX brand and delivered the new Ofex website 9 Finance Media Europe Limited 10. www.ofex .com as well as a supporting level 2 service for brokers. We had improved the delivery of the Ofex feed and increased web site traffic by more than 300%. We continued to evolve the sites look and feel as the Level 2 screen10 Finance Media Europe Limited 11. Results Our bid was successful and in spring 2005 we launched a new look PLUS markets web site incorporating all of the new brand and requirements. Since the re-launch in 2005, FME have re-developed the website four times inline with further business evolution and brand changes. The current site has been created to provide a welcoming, inclusive design that is quick and easy to navigate and offers a growing store of useful tools for companies and investors alike. It can be easily updated in-house using a bespoke and simple to use content management system, or by FME for bigger changes. Over recent months, the site has been attracting over 2 million hits per day. With the new trading model and re-branded website in place, more than 17,000 securities are now traded on PLUS - about 15 percent of trading activity outside the FTSE 350 in daily volumes www.plusmarkets 200511 Finance Media Europe Limited 12. 2006 Current website12 Finance Media Europe Limited 13. Case Studies Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein In 2002, we created the award-winning DrKW Webtrader, an online stock trading game developed for the investment bank specifically for university students in the UK and across the world. The project objectives Initially, the objective was to find students with a trading aptitude, but so successful was it that it became a marketing tool for the bank to differentiate its offering on the University milk round. We had already been running our own stock trading game The Great Game for three years when we were approached by DrKW to build a private-label version. The brief specified the need for it to be youthful while business-like, and we worked with their designers to deliver and fit the existing brand. As client Terrence Perrin said, we felt this would be an innovative way to encourage students, perhaps with little or no knowledge of financial markets to develop a taste for what is involved in a career as a trader. The main objective was to promote the companys graduate recruitment programme, and several games were run over 36 months, and timed to coincide with the season for recruiting summer interns. Our strategy To make the game easier to play and encourage mainland Europeans to buy UK stocks, we combined the share price listings for the London, Paris and Frankfurt stock exchanges to express them all in Euros - something that had never been done before. We built and ran the whole game, providing game support, email marketing, data aggregation, and also built systems to interrogate the data base. 13 Finance Media Europe Limited 14. Results At the end of the first week, more than 1,100 fantasy traders were trading fantasy portfolios, and DrKW gave away a first prize of 10,000 and 5,000 to nine runners-up, for each game, with prizes presented at several lunches at City Rhodes. Over the period, students from more than 120 worldwide universities and colleges played the game. 14 Finance Media Europe Limited 15. Case Studies Royal & Sun Alliance We developed a UK wealth management/ portfolio service and fantasy trading game for deployment on the Royal & Sun Alliance More Than> web site The project objectives To add value to the web site, enhance the sites user content aggregation and provide added value services to RSAs on- line financial services users. The project had three requirements. The primary task was to develop and deliver the applications fully integrated with the companys existing on-line resources, working within the scope of the existing brand and corporate identity. The applications also had to provide product enhancement and development for multiple channel sales promotion, as well as technical integration with the companys own CRM and content publishing tools. Finally, after launch, Royal & Sun Alliance required continuing support, as well as further integration of user profiling and tracking tools and management of the applications. Our strategy Working closely with Royal & Sun Alliances in-house developers and external consultants we ensured the cohesive development of all applications with RSAs technologies, meeting all their compliance requirements and ensuring we delivered full inter-operation between Royal & Sun Alliances CRM applications and ours. All applications were completed and delivered on time, on spec. Results The wealth management/portfolio service and game ran formally on the Royal & Sun Alliance more>than website for two years, between 2001 and 2003. Royal & Sun Alliance sold the investment business in order to re-focus on their core insurance products, so at the end of the term the services we supplied were discontinued. An independent appraisal by external management consultants valued the applications as some of the key marketing assets of the more>than website proposition. 15 Finance Media Europe Limited 16.
