Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues

Narrative and Genre• Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues is a comedy film that was

released in late December 2013. • The film was highly anticipated by both fans of the franchise and

others.• Others genres it falls under are news/broadcasting. • The film is, as I’ve heard, incredibly politically incorrect, using racism

and sexism in many of their jokes. • Compared to other film released around the same time, Last Vegas,

Frozen, The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug, American Hustle and Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones, out of these Anchorman, in my opinion, is the only laugh out loud comedy released around this time. Making it a popular choice for young adults around the holidays.

Funding/financing• The film had a production budget of $50,000,000, and was

distributed by Paramount.• As of Jan. 12 2014 in the US the film has a domestic total of

$118,256,793, and $40,000,000 in other countries, making a grand total of $158,256,793.

• The films producers were Judd Apatow, Will Ferrell and Adam McKay.

• The 3 of the films main stars, Paul Rudd, Will Ferrell and Steve Carell all took pay cuts to make the movie.

• Other production companies used were Apatow Productions and Gary Sanchez Productions.

Development

• The writers of the Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues are Adam McKay and Will Ferrell.

• The film began shooting in February 2013.

Production

• The film was highly anticipated because of the many stars in the film, including the reprising roles of Will Ferrell, Steve Carell, Paul Rudd and David Koecher. Also starring are Christina Applegate, James Marsden, Vince Vaughn, Harrison Ford and cameo appearances from Will Smith, Sacha Baron Cohen and Kirsten Dunst.

• This film is seen as controversial by some because of the racist twang to the film and politically incorrect nature of the 80s.

Distribution

• The film is rated 18 and has had A LOT of marketing and promotion, with Will Ferrell (as Ron Burgundy) visiting different countries and acting in character when accepting awards etc. The released date for the USA and UK was 18th December 2013. The film is being released as late as June, in Italy.

Exhibition

• This film was highly anticipated and is being shown in almost all multiplex’s nationwide, and also is being talked about a lot, hence the films storming box office gross to date. Worldwide: $158,256,793.

• There are more than one trailer, one of them going viral and getting just below 10,000,000 views.

Audiences

• The film franchise has almost got a cult following after the release of this sequel. Many fan reviews and peer experiences have been uploading to various film websites e.g. iMDB, Box Office Mojo etc.

• I have not yet seen Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, but have heard from friends that it is a must see comedy, I am highly anticipating the film and sure I will enjoy it.
