What is it that differentiates an excellent business leader from a good one? It is the zeal, the passion, the commitment to consistentlystrive to raise the bar. It is about competing not just with one's peers, but also with oneself. It is about challenging assumptions, of outdoing one excellent performance with a superior one. It is about a rare degree of conviction towards one's capabilities, anunwavering faith in one's values, a relentless pursuit of perfection and a tacit contract of symbiosis with one's environment.

When FMS looks back at its heritage spanning more than 50 years, it is this attitude that stands out amidst the laurels of its stalwarts. Anattitude that has shaped, encouraged and motivated all the learners. An attitude that has made each participant a performer, time andagain. An attitude that has turned challenges into victories. An attitude that is contagious.

At FMS, we are used to running. Towards matching world-class standards in pedagogy. Towards providing our students one of the bestcareer development facilities. Towards providing the talent pool for a globally competitive Corporate India. Towards creating a bettertomorrow for the world. We have left the milestones of excellence and innovation far behind. Today at FMS, we are all running towardsperfection. In thought and in practice.

Welcome to the new world where change is blinding fast, where running ahead is the only way to keep up, where rapid adaptation is theonly way to maintain status quo, where disruptive change is the only change, where innovation is the only way to maintain position, where breakthroughs are the only way towards consolidation.

Welcome to FMS. The only school that has been fulfilling everyone's dreams. Since1954.

It takes character, grit, determination, perseverance and focus to champion the business environment for years. MBA, the flagship course at FMS, hasachieved this by constantly striving to conquer even higher pinnacles of excellence. In the process, it has set benchmarks for others to emulate in the fieldof Business Management education. This time-perfected programme gives the learner two years to explore; to be bold, to be creative and to learn as much as you can.

Our curriculum rests on two principles: a strong analytical foundation in key functional areas and a high degree of academic flexibility that enables you tohandcraft your MBA. The first year introduces the learners to the essential models and tools needed to frame and analyze fundamental management issues that are essential for creation of thought leaders and change managers. In the second year, the learners decide on their professional developmentplans by reflecting on the first year learnings and summer internship experiences. This assessment is augmented by advisory sessions with faculty andcorporate luminaries who share their eclectic experiences with the learner. The programme is located at the North Campus facility of FMS.

The intake to this programme is 90 participants (with additional 9 seats for international candidates).

MBA has a course structure which is closely aligned with the business requirements in today's scenario. The focus is on producing managers with soundfundamentals who have the ability to hit the ground running when they enter the corporate world; the ability to challenge conventional wisdom by path-breaking innovations; the ability to execute the most daunting of challenges in the most trying of circumstances; the ability to create synergies amongstthe most diverse set of variables; the ability to continuously learn, to improvise, to adapt, to energize, to grow, and to take the world in their stride.

Learners here are required to complete 8 core or elective courses or a combination of both in every semester. The first year of the course concentrates onimparting management fundamentals like Human Resources, Organisational Effectiveness & Change, Marketing Management, Financial Management,Quantitative Methods, Computer Applications in Management etc. so that the learner is introduced to the technical, economic, social and human side ofmanagement. The Second year continues the momentum by building on these fundamentals and requires focus on chosen specializations by takingcourses in the areas of marketing, finance, systems, operations and human resources. Along with these specialization courses, the learner studiesbusiness strategy courses which focus on skills that enable managers to diagnose complex business situations and resolve strategic and organizationalproblems. These courses are supplemented by simulation games which reinforce the classroom teachings and gives hands-on experience to the learners. In addition to these courses, the learner can opt for non-credit courses in each semester subject to the approval of the programme coordinator. Theclassroom sessions are supplemented by corporate sessions, guest lectures, field sessions, live projects, workshops and many such activities whichensure that the learner remains in touch with the contemporary corporate environment and learns the practical applications of the acquired knowledge.

Learners at the MBA programme have the option of customizing their ownprogrammes based on their unique strengths and interests. This is done through theirown inference about the shape which they want to lend to the trajectory of their careerpaths and thus prepare themselves for a successful future. This ensures that thestress of the programme is not on teaching, but on 'learning'!!

The combination of a flexible curriculum, a wide array of learning opportunities and aconducive academic environment does distinguish this programme from others. However, it's the "People-Factor" which lends this programme a distinctive advantageover all other MBA programmes. Starting from the first fortnight on campus where thelearner will be helped in getting acquainted to the people and the place by a series ofsessions formulated and coordinated by the second year learners, the amount oflearner empowered initiatives keeps on increasing exponentially throughout the year.

As much as it's possible to sum up a community, this is FMS: Learners who approachwork and play with equal intensity. Who are confident enough to make mistakes. Andgrounded enough to know that getting to the top is easier and more fun when thejourney is shared.

Its about the idea

We believe in pushing the boundaries....

Our learning environment is collaborative and without hierarchy. Learners are expected to voice their questions and dissent, whether the idea is

presented by a classmate or a professor. This is how our ideas evolve into prosperous business ventures and world-changing practices. Our

learning environment embraces a discipline-based approach to the analysis of ideas. Learners learn to evaluate problems and opportunities

through the fundamental disciplines that underlie business. This is how our graduates transcend trends and thrive in dynamic markets across all

industries. Our learning environment is based on one essential fact: there are neither enough formulas nor business cases to span the range of

decisions faced in the course of a career. We prepare our learners with knowledge, a command of the relevant tools, and most important, the ability

to decisively think through unique problems and opportunities and the ideas they generate.

This is how FMS teaches you to LEAD.

We don't believe in resting on our laurels. There is an inherent restlessness, which gives us the impetus to pursue new challenges and a drive that

won't let us stop till we accomplish our goals. We were the ones that started the fire and we have the same fire in the belly, that makes us strive for

the near impossible. Our endeavor to push the boundary is well reflected across different areas, right from record placements to winning

competitions across the country year on year. At FMS, one learns through practical solutions and real time problems. The school has pushes

everyone beyond boundaries in terms of leadership. There are so many opportunities to lead, and the school encourages every learner to take those

positions.

We inculcate thought leadership....

We get addicted....

FMS is an incubator of dynamic and visionary leaders of the Corporate World of tomorrow. And that spark is seen in the learners as they walk down the

hallways. We are proud to call ourselves dreamers and we applaud new ideas that come from our learners. But we believe in not just thinking new

things but thinking them through. After all, there's no better way to learn management than to actually work towards transforming an idea into reality.

The classroom experience is designed to teach learners not what to think, but how to think. To open every door in a quest for the best answer. To create

a door when none exists. To tap your colleagues for ideas, insights, feedback. To know that the most successful solutions are rarely reached solo. To

realize that the best ideas bear many fingerprints.

It is easy to spot an FMSite in an organization. They are the ones who are visible because of their ability to deliver consistently, from the classrooms to

the corporate board rooms. Our success should hardly be a surprise to anyone close to the FMS culture. At a basic level, it is about the intellect to grasp

the crux of an issue, the ability to generate ideas for innovative solutions, the focus to coverage on an action plan, the drive to execute that plan and the

faith to stand by it. But it is also so much more than that. It is about an ingrained attitude attuned towards discipline, towards team work, towards

integrity, towards success. An attitude that is a promise. A way of life. A commitment. An Addiction.

Faculty InformationThe world renowned faculty at FMS makes learning management a different experience altogether. Few schools can match FMS for its breadth of experience. Our faculty is collaborative and much of our research is interdisciplinary. This comes across in our integrated teaching which helps thelearners appreciate how each field links with others. The faculty shares information, elicits responses, spurs dialogue, encourages differences ofopinion and debates ideas. They expect their learners to do the same, in the classroom and on their own. This is where ideas compete and peoplecollaborate.

Active engagement, informed thought and dynamic teamwork makes the FMS experience unique among its peers. No business background isnecessary; all one needs to bring to the table is a willingness to stretch ones mind in new directions.

The real world isn't quite so textbook. Which is why at FMS, the learners will be part of an environment that encourages interaction and new ways of thinking. They will find a veritable leadership training ground that offers opportunities above and beyond the coursework to enhance their skills.

Bridging the gap between the industry and the academia has always been essential to build a strong symbiotic relationship. Towards that end, we at FMShave initiated modules and lectures in partnership with leading industrialists and experts to supplement our current pedagogy.

Visit to China

Visit to France

Two students from FMS went on a 10 day trip sponsored by the Government ofIndia to China to understand the different facets of Chinese culture and society.More importantly, they found a whole new perspective to the manner in whichbusinesses are run in China and the management education scenario there. Theyalso studied the industry in China and witnessed first hand the leaps it has taken inorder to develop as the manufacturing hub of the world.FMS is now preparing to host their Chinese counterparts when they come visiting later this year.

After establishing ties with our neighbors at Lahore University of ManagementStudies and exploring China, FMS has now successfully spread its wings across theseas. A delegation of 6 students was recently invited by IAE de Lyon BusinessSchool of Universite Jean Moulin of France, for a Summer Business GraduateProgram from 25th June to 6th July 2007.

The program which has been running successfully for the last 20 years wasintroduced to FMS with an intention to build and reinforce the connection betweenIndia and France and the respective business schools, apart from cross culturaldiscussions and a comparative study between the various managementperspectives and principles. The underlying theme of the Summer BusinessGraduate Program at Lyon was to 'How to do Business in the European Union'.

As a part of the visit, a Company visit was organized to Renault Trucks, the secondlargest company in the Volvo Group. The students got an in-depth understanding ofthe production and technical core competences of the company and furthersolidified their learning.

Visit to LUMS

FMS Hosts LUMS

FMS, the pioneer in management education in India has taken its quest for excellence and innovation across national boundariesby forging a relationship with the Lahore University of Management Sciences, Pakistan. The students from FMS who went toPakistan stayed at the LUMS campus itself, and attended classes just like any other regular student. The aim of the visit was togive the students a holistic experience, rather than a solely academic one. The students soaked in the culture of Lahore by visitingthe Baadshahi Mosque, Lahore Fort, Maharaja Ranjit Singh's shrine and many more such historic places.

The New Year brought with it an opportunity to make the bond established between the students of the two premier B-Schoolseven stronger. FMS played host to the LUMS Delegation in the second week of January, 2007. This was the first ever visit byPakistani BSchool students to India, and signifies how higher education is becoming the new face of diplomacy. Dr. Syed ZahoorHassan, Dean, LUMS had visited FMS last year. The LUMS Delegation provided a student perspective on the similarities as well asdifferences in education as well as other aspects of life in India and Pakistan.
