A Message From The

Leadership Team

This issue highlights our Christmas parties. We would like to recognize the Activities Committees in all of our plants for doing a great job of planning and hosting these events. Please consider joining the Activities Committee and get involved in having fun.

We started our year of Celebration and Change off on a positive note in November. Orders set a record for the total company and Behlen Country. We ended with our second best November for our bottom line. Due to the great orders, we need more direct labor to make our products. We asked Partners in Progress to work New Year’s Eve in order to take care of customers.

Here is a look ahead by Business Unit:

Behlen Country is in the middle of building inventory this winter. We believe February will be a record setting month for shipments. More work will be done on the Texas paintline in January. The laser for 3-point will be operational in February. November orders and profit set records.

Building Systems has booked steady orders during the past few months and is working with customers to ship faster. Shipments are below last year’s pace, but they will ramp up this spring. The downspout and elbow machines will be producing in January. The new pull-through welder will also be installed in January.

International and Diversified Products is being affected the most by the stronger U.S. dollar and soft ag economy. Ag orders and shipments are expected to stay below last year at least until spring. The Omega bin sweep has been successfully installed and tested. Product development on a temporary storage system looks promising. Presses is off to a good start with steady business levels continuing. Custom Fab started this year below last year’s pace. However, there are some big projects being quoted that will shift everything into high gear, when they become orders.

Distefano Technology & Manufacturing has adjusted to a change in customer demands. Turf care and foundation business is strong, while ag equipment continues to stay soft. More of the same is expected. There also is good interest from potential new customers which could help DTM have its best year ever.

Hilton International Industries has three machines in the shop to be shipped early in calendar year 2016. New technology is being used that will establish Hilton on the leading edge of machine building in the industry. Quote activity is softer than we would like to see, but we continue to be optimistic about 2016.

Our diversity is one of our strengths as you can see from our outlook. While some Business Units are strong, others are actively searching for more orders. We need to move to where the work is, just like we have many times before. Let’s stay focused on taking care of customers better than ever to earn their next order. We are striving for 80 hours of Profitsharing in our 80th year in business. This is our year of Celebration and Change!

A.I.M. Idea of the Month

Shaunda's idea is to run part #62609790 on the Twister. Get rid of the shear and punch steps and do both steps on one machine. This would save a lot of time in setups on both machines.

Use one of the satellite units for clear coating our Clinton Anderson penny vein product. The old way was: After penny vein was painted, we would use two shaker box spray-to-waste units at 6 feet per minute. The

new way, we can run at 14½ feet per minute cutting our cost in half at an estimated $1,000 per hour x 70 Clinton Anderson round pens per year = $70,000. Half of that if we paint two per hour.

Pathways To Success

100/Zero - Hilton, SarasotaScott Jackson, Hilton’s Materials Manager, has been instrumental in seeking out new sources and creating strong working relationships with all our suppliers, significantly reducing costs and turn-around time. Scott’s negotiating savvy has resulted in over $7,000 in savings from a single source, MSC Industrial Supply.

Scott has surpassed our expectations by assessing and implementing much needed improvements in Hilton’s processes and procedures, particularly those related to our quoting, forecasting and safety program. His seven plus years of JD Edwards experience has been invaluable in helping us better understand and utilize this software.

DTM Hosts Dream It. Do It. Explorer ProgramBrian Turner

5

On Tuesday, December 1st, DTM hosted a group of local area high school students participating in the Dream It. Do It. Explorer Program. Also present were representatives of the local DIDI program - John Vyhlidal, Dwayne Probyn, and Patrick Boyle.

DTM has participated in this Explorer Post/DIDI program for high school students who are interested in careers within the trades and machinery areas for the past few years.

This year, a demonstration of design engineering using CAD, a CNC machining presentation, and a hands-on welding experience were provided for the students. Of course, the hands-on events were the fan favorites. During the weld portion, we were even able to get one of the parents to grab the welding gun. Unfortunately, after seeing his skills we will not be hiring him for a welding position in the near future, unless of course he takes a welding class either here or at Metro Community College.

Many thanks to Rex Woods, Jim Banks, Gene Prokop, and Gene King for taking time out of their evening to host these folks.

As you all know, Behlen is deeply interested in encouraging our youth to invest time in finding their future career. And, as we have discussed many times, whose is not always a four year path. Here is a quote worth reading, “We have a skills gap in America and in Nebraska. We need to do a better job of equipping students with the skills they need – particularly the STEM skills – to succeed in the economy of the future,” said TR Raimondo, Chairman of the Nebraska Advanced Manufacturing Coalition (NAMC) and Behlen Mfg. Co.

That is why the Nebraska Advanced Manufacturing Coalition Dream It. Do It. organization and their corporate partners participate in the STEM Exploring Post program. What is the Explorer Program about?

The Explorer Program is a career/education program for young men and women who are 14 through 20-years-old. The purpose of the program is to provide experiences which help young people mature and to prepare them to become responsible

and caring adults. Exploring is based on a unique and dynamic relationship between youth and organizations in their community.

Local community organizations, such as DIDI, initiate an Explorer post by matching their people and program resources to the interests of young people in the community. The result is a program of activities which help youth pursue their special interests, grow, and develop.

By participating, the student will learn about career options, career paths, and tuition assistance programs. During the program he or she will experience informal presentations, tours, and hands-on activities. I have to tell you there is nothing more fun than watching a young person watch a welding robot or laser for the first time or grab a welding gun and strike that first spark.

Do you have a son or daughter who are not sure what to do after graduation? Interested in learning more? Then check out the website: www.dreamitdoitnebraska.com or the next time you see TR in the hall, stop and ask him about DIDI/STEM.

Christmas Joy Lights Children’s FacesJen Giroux

“Santa Claus is Coming to Town” and one of his first stops was Behlen Mfg. Co. for the Kid’s Christmas Party on December 5th. The Lil’ Partners greeted Santa at the door with excitement and then lined up to tell him what they wanted for Christmas this year. The children were also able to have their faces painted by a few volunteers from the Girl Scouts, getting various shaped balloons from the Shriners, making crafts in the craft room, coloring pictures for the coloring contest, and trying to win a plate of goodies from the cakewalk.

The weather was also cooperative enough to allow families to take a horse drawn wagon ride around the parking lot. The Lil’ Partners and their parents also enjoyed a wonderful variety of cookies, punch, and coffee.

Many thanks to all who helped make this year’s party a success!

Co. with a large commemorative picture celebrating Behlen’s part in shipping a Higgins boat which eventually made its way to Normandy Beach in France to honor the men who died at the D-Day landing in June of 1944.

The Activities Committee would like to thank everyone who made this event possible. We had a great turn out, and hope to see you all again next year!

Christmastime Fun in Baker Citycontinued from page 1

The Sunridge Inn was the location for this year’s Christmas party on Saturday, December 19th. A wonderful meal of Prime Rib and Chicken Cordon Bleu with all the fixins was served. Everyone was excited to spend time with each other.

Matt Schumann made the trip from Columbus and Rick Smith and Tom Moxon from California joined in the fun. Partners in Progress and their guests enjoyed an evening of prize drawings for gift cards from Barley Browns, Ace Hardware, D&B Supply, and a Sunridge Inn Restaurant and overnight stay.

Safeway gift cards were given out to the tables with the most seniority combined for the Partners in Progress at those tables. The table of Steve Ritter, Greg and Angi Boruch, Lori Lien and Jerry Mothershed was the first place table with more than 80 years of combined seniority! Clint Morrison thanked everyone for their support this year. In return, Clint received a can of green beans from each Partner – to help with his lunches over the next couple months!

Thank you to the Activities Committee for

putting on a wonderful party. It was called

“the best” so far!

McGregor Celebrates ChristmasGary Lewis

The McGregor, Texas plant had their annual Christmas party on December 5th at The Rodeo in McGregor. Incredible Texas BBQ, awesome door prizes, fun and fellowship were enjoyed by a very good showing of Partners in Progress and vendors alike.

There was a rodeo going on right outside the meeting hall for those who wished to enjoy it after the party. Paul Kilpatrick was a little tired and showed up in his Nebraska Cornhusker pajamas. Jen Miller was quite impressed.

Special thanks goes to Mary Rodriquez and Casey Major for their hard work in preparation for the adult and kid's party alike. Joining the McGregor Partners in Progress from Columbus were: Jen & Mike Miller, Michele Broekemeier, Mike Spulak, Dave Ludwig, and Chad Johnson.

Avery Shanks was the grand prize winner of a Samsung TV.

It was a great night of fun with the McGregor Partners in Progress and their guests!

According to AAA, roughly 30% of all Americans will travel to see family and friends this holiday season. This means about 100 million people will be driving or flying more than 50 miles over a two week period. That can have a lot of consequences, and can make staying healthy a tough task! This may be a great time to use a step counter or other fitness device so you can see exactly how much you are moving.

Simply taking extra steps and making an additioinal stop to get out of your seat and move your body can make your holidays much better!

Don’t get discouraged. It is never too late to start your day over! If you find yourself finishing off a bottle of soda, a candy bar, and a bag of chips all before noon in the car, make your best effort to get to your destination and make the rest of your day healthy! Start by having a big glass of water when you arrive where you’re going. Once you finish, go for a 20 minute walk. Within 30 minutes, those two steps alone can set the rest of your trip up for success!

Stay healthy and enjoy your trip!!!

Staying Healthy and Safe During Holiday TravelBrandon Hays

Drive Safely: It is estimated 90% of holiday travelers will drive this year. That translates to about 90 million drivers on the road. Unfortunately, the holidays can often times be accompanied by bad weather and driving conditions which are not ideal. AAA expects to rescue 900,000 motorists this season.

Stay safe and follow a couple simple rules.

* Make sure your car is ready for the winter * BUCKLE UP * Don’t text and drive * Don’t drink and drive * Stay well rested * Be flexible in your travel plans

Illness: Traveling can mean being around lots of people, this is particularly true when you are flying. That means you will be exposed to germs and other things which can put you at a high risk to get sick, especially when you include stress and possible lack of sleep!

Keep hygiene in mind and take these steps to health.

* Drink water * WASH YOUR HANDS * Carry and use hand sanitizer * Carry sanitizer wipes and clean surfaces you use * Keep your diet consistent * Don’t over use caffeine * Get some sleep

Diet and Exercise: Everyone gets hungry on the road. During some trips, you don’t have a choice but to stop for a quick bite to eat. For most of us, this makes eating healthy and staying active feel impossible. This is a time when it is important to remember, little efforts can have a big impact.

When possible, try a few of these tricks.

* Stop at grocery stores, not convenience stores * Eat small snacks instead of heavy meals * Pick high protein foods * Get bottled water instead of other beverages * Bring snacks from home * Wash your windows while fueling for a little extra activity * Walk around paths at rest stops

Thank you to Dan Harris

Submitted by: Corey Bruce

Dan Harris called me at home and wanted to know when the Galvanizer crew was going to work on Sunday (12/27/15). I told him they were coming in at 6 pm to galvanize fence. He said the Ammonium Chloride machine had been taken apart so they could work on it. He came in on Sunday at 1 pm to reassemble it. WEALTH BUILDINGWords of Wisdom to Make Retirement WorkDick Casey

FINANCIAL RESOLUTIONS FOR A NEW YEAR – 2016

1. Save a portion of any increase in “wages” to your 401(k): Lower gasoline prices is a wage increase! “Wage increases” count too. This is a chance for you to save more money. Just do it.

2. Just say “No!” Peer pressure is a big reason why we buy. Sometimes the hardest word to say is “No.” Guess what? Your neighbors are in debt too. Just tell your good friends you are on a budget or you are saving to send your children to college.

3. Make a budget: Maybe this should be first. Making a budget is so important to your financial success it may merit two entries on our list of resolutions. If you don’t know where to start, keep a tally of what you spend in January and go from there.

4. Find friends who are savers: Don’t go it alone. Find two to four friends at work, in the neighborhood or online who have the same goals. Brown bag it or share volume discounts.

5. Reward yourself: Starvation budgets are like starvation diets, they end up in a binge. As you meet your financial goals month to month, reward yourself. You will most likely succeed in the long run if you treat yourself (within reason) along the way.

6. Use cash: If you use debit and credit cards, you likely will spend more. Using cash turns money into a physical “thing” with physical limits. If you are feeling especially daring, leave the cards at home, altogether. This is a winning strategy.

7. Find a way to generate additional income: Picking up extra income can be a wonderful New Year’s resolution. In a tough economy, the peace of mind and additional income that comes with a second job or side business (hobby) can be a great buffer against economic stress. Start thinking of this one now and let this year be the year you do it.

8. Make a fitness resolution: To give you the energy to do all the above, find a way to fit 30 minutes a day of physical activity into your busy schedule. Go for a walk after dinner. If you decide to join the family YMCA, make plans for when you’ll go and what you’ll do when you get there.

9. Rebalance your 401(k) investment portfolio: Your 401(k) may have fluctuated during the year with some sectors over-performing and some underperforming. By rebalancing your portfolio to its original or updated asset allocation, you take steps to lock in gains from the sectors with the best returns and purchase shares in the sectors which have lagged behind last year’s leaders.

THE BOTTOM LINE: Be cautious about setting too many unrealistic financial goals. The above is enough. Otherwise, you may be unable to accomplish any of them. It may be a good idea to maintain a checklist to keep track of how you’re doing throughout the year. Keep the list on the refrigerator. HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Money Wisdom: No one's ever achieved financial fitness with a January resolution that's abandoned by February.

Definition: New Year's Resolution (a repeat) - is a tradition, most common in the Western Hemisphere but also found in the Eastern Hemisphere, in which a person makes a promise to do an act of self-improvement, financial and / or something slightly nice, such as opening doors for people, beginning with New Year's Day.

Question: What does FDIC insured mean?

Answer: Typically, a bank account that meets the requirements to be covered or insured by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). The different accounts that can be FDIC insured are NOW, checking, savings, Certificate of Deposits (CD) and money market deposit accounts.
