Principal’s message Dear Parents and Caregivers I would like to wish you and your family a happy and safe Easter period. Enjoy the holidays and we look forward to everyone returning happy, healthy and rested for a busy Term 2. Students return on Tuesday, 20 April. School Improvement Plan This week I have put on the school website our school plan until 2024. The plan focuses on improvement in literacy and numeracy, with ongoing support in wellbeing. There is a particular focus on attendance. Additionally, we have outlined plans for ongoing teacher training. Thank you to everyone who contributed. It was so good to get such thoughtful input from our ‘focus group’ parents, our students and staff. Student Mentors and Leadership Earlier this week I had the honour of presenting our inaugural Student Mentors with their badge. This newly created position has come about following discussion with staff around supporting students in the playground and giving those students who were nominated last year as a candidate for a Student Leader role in the school but were not chosen in the final 8 an opportunity to develop their leadership muscle. We know they are well respected by their peers and we felt with the introduction of the new games in the playground, they would have an important role to play in ensuring inclusivity, respect and responsibility were practiced by students. Congratulations; Themi, Mohammed, Sabrina, Emily and Natalie. All of our nominated candidates for leadership roles in 2021 had the opportunity to attend the GRIP Leadership Conference at Homebush last week. Mrs Karatasoullis escorted our representatives and they participated in a wonderful day of skill development, plan making and discussion around leadership. Congratulations to the Peakhurst Team who attended.
GRIP Leadership Conference Brebas Computational Challenge Students in our Stage 2 and Stage 3 PEG classes had the opportunity to participate in the Brebas Computational Challenge. It is an International competition with a high level of difficulty. to Declan M who achieved a perfect score and has been placed on the Honour Roll. This is the highest accolade possible. High Distinction: Emma C, Sophie C, Shubham K, Georgia L, Declan L, Melody W, Jacob Y (3/4S) Distinction: Raymond C, Hanna H, Abbey O, Willow P, Henry T, Michelle W (3/4S) Dominic J, Aiden L (5/6K) Year 5 Opportunity Class Applications for 2022 Year 5 Opportunity Class Applications are online. The applications open on 20th April and will close on 7th May. Information has been sent home to Year 4 families. Applications can be made at the following link. https://education.nsw.gov.au/public-schools/selective-high-schools-and-opportunity-classes/year-5 Winter Uniform Students will return in Term 2 wearing winter uniform. Please ensure your child is in correct uniform with labelled jackets etc. There has been variations that have crept in this term, which is a shame as Peakhurst is well known for its lovely uniform. Please see the outline of the Peakhurst winter school uniform and a Claudines order form attached to this FOCUS. A pre-loved uniform shop is run by our P&C. Please keep your eyes open for any announcements in FOCUS, on class Dojo and in e-news. Parent Teacher Interviews. This year we trialed interviews for Parent/Teachers in Term 1. Many parents took the opportunity to speak with class teachers. We are interested to see how you felt about a Term 1 date. I have attached a 3 question survey we would love you to complete. It should literally take 1 minute and it is totally anonymous. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/P2B5S77 Egg Challenge Result There were so many creative entries in our Easter Egg Challenge. It was quite eggcellent! Mrs Ryan and I judged the Years
3 -6 competition and it was tough! 1st Place: Eggceptional creativity! Congratulations Sophie. 2nd Place: Amelia 3rd Place: Alyssa Ms Bray judged the K-2 colouring competition and she said how hard
it was to pick a winner. She did say it was eggciting though!
1st Place: Jason 2nd Place: Jeremy 3rd Place: Samhita

Create a Family Online Safety Contract
ThinkUKnow and The Carly Ryan Foundation
have developed an online family safety
contract to help manage the things a family might see, say and do online. Get a copy of the Family Online Safety Contract via thinkuknow.org.au.
Review location, privacy settings and
parental controlsReview and turn off location settings,
such as GPS, where they aren’t necessary.
Ensure privacy settings are secure, and set to ‘Friends only’ or ‘Private’.
Research parental controls to see if they are suitable for your
family.Sharing personal
information onlineHave a discussion with your child about what
information is okay to share, and what
isn’t. Remind them to never give out personal
information online.
Find out what apps and games your child uses
Take an interest in what technology your child
uses and how they use it. Remember, not all apps and games are
created equally, some have better safety
features than others. Consider if the content is appropriate for your
child.
Check Direct Message or chat functions on apps
and gamesAnonymous ‘in game’
chat can provide a possible platform for
online child sex offenders to target young people.
Consider disabling these functions or check settings to ensure they
can only be contacted by their friends.
Suspicious online behaviour and what it
looks likeHave a conversation with your child about
suspicious online behaviour. Discuss with
them why someone might ask them personal questions or for images.
Remind them that not everyone online is who they say they are and to
trust their instincts.
Help your child identify a support network
Make sure your child feels comfortable
talking to you or another trusted adult about
issues they might be experiencing online.
Start a conversation to help them identify who
they might go to for help and support.
