two weeks a lot better

Welcome to Leon! Before you start your trip in this wonderful city, there are some basic things you need to know. You must be aware that in Leon there are 1.6 million people, which is quite a thing isn’t it?

First of all, we would like to advise re-garding our local weather, it is cool in the morning but sunny during the rest of the day. Sometimes we have some drizzles so just make sure you bring with you a light jacket.

Leon has many different attractions waiting for you. If you wish to shop, an excellent option would be to visit the mall “Plaza Mayor”. Where you can find a va-riety of places to eat, relax, watch mov-ies, go bowling, and even go ice-skating at “La Pista”. If you decide for a movie night, there are also other movie theaters available in the area, such as “Cinemex” or “Centro Max”, which are also shop-ping malls, with a diversity of stores and restaurants.

As a reminder you are in the leather and footwear capital of Mexico, so find-ing comfortable and nice shoes as well as leather accessories should not be a problem. We recommend you to visit “Mulza Outlet” or “Galeria del Zapato”.

Now, if you are curious about Mexican cuisine, here are some helpful tips about food in Leon. As you probably have heard, people in Mexico enjoy eating spicy food. So if you ever go to a restau-rant, you can ask for hot peppers ”chile”, please try little at the beginning in case you are not used to it.

A traditional snack in Leon are “guaca-mayas”. People come from other cities just to try them, so don´t miss out on them if you can! A place to go is “Las de Javier”. It will cost you about 20 pesos, which is approximately US$1.50.

Before we forget in Mexico as part of our cultural eating habits we enjoy eating “tacos”, which I’m sure you’ve heard about. This is a corn “tortilla” containing with different types of filling, such as, chicken, beef, vegetables, cheese, etc. There are many places to stop and enjoy them an example is “Los cuñados” or “Tacos Don Luis”. unique experience.

We can go on for hours telling you the best places to go. We have lots of them! Therefore visit our city in an adventurous way because travelling is the best way to acquire culture awareness and what better way to do it if not enjoying this wonderful city. You won’t regret it! If you have any questions, you can always ask people in town, and they will guide you through the best places in town. I have also attached a small list of the best places in town, so make sure you take advantage of it.

In addition, just about 50 minutes from Leon, is Guanajuato our state capital. It is a beautiful small colonial town that is definitely worth seeing. By walking through the streets and into the main plaza, you will discover that Guanajuato is rich in culture and history.

PLACES TO VISIT / LEÓN City of many dimensions (fantasy and intelligence, of struggle and tradition, contemplative work and leisure), Guanajuato is always between legend and reality. Rather than see it, imagine it.

According to some etymologists the name comes from the Tarasco Guana-juato QUANASHUATO QUANAS composed of words meaning HUUATO frogs, some hilly. But adding the particle TO, where something abounds. Therefore QUANASH-UATO expressed Mountainous place where frogs or frogs abound. QUANASHUATO over time becomes QUANAXHUATO finally in GUANAJUATO as known at present.

Guanajuato is known as one of the most important tourist destinations of the country and has several colonial jewels and architectural beauty as well as archaeo-logical sites of which the most important is Plazuelas in the municipality of Pénjamo and commercial attractions, like the cities of Leon, Irapuato.

The UNESCO gave Guanajuato the title of Capital Cervantina de América.,

San Miguel is a city and located in the far eastern part of the state of Guana-juato in central Mexico. It is 274 km from Mexico City and 97 km from the state capital of Guanajuato.[1] Historically, the town is important as being the birthplace of Ignacio Allende, whose surname was added to the town’s name in 1826, as well as the first municipality declared independent of Spanish rule by the nascent insurgent army dur-ing the Mexican War of Independence. However, the town waned during and after the war, and at the beginning of the 20th century was in danger of becoming a ghost town. Its Baroque/Neoclassical colonial structures were “discovered” by foreign artists who moved in and began art and cultural institutes such as the Instituto Allende and the Escuela de Bellas Artes. This gave the town a reputation, attracting artists such as David Alfaro Siqueiros, who taught painting. This attracted foreign art students, especially former U.S. soldiers study-ing on the G.I. Bill after the Second World War. Since then, the town has attracted a very large number of foreign retirees, artists, writers and tourists, which is shifting the area’s economy from agriculture and industry to commerce catering to outside visi-tors and residents.

The main attraction of the town is its well-preserved historic center, filled with buildings from the 17th and 18th centuries. This and the nearby Sanctuary of Atotonilco have been declared World Heritage Sites.
