FOLLOW ON FACEBOOK: Global Perspec�ves Programme, University of Basel www.unibas.ch/gpp/ Run in partnership with Virginia Tech (US), the Global Perspec�ves Programme is aimed at preparing future academic leaders for the challenges of an increasingly diverse and globally focused higher educa�on (HE) sector. Through exchange and first hand experience, the interdisciplinary programme offers doctorate students and post-doc researchers the opportunity for reflec�ve comparison of the two countries’ HE sectors and the chance for individuals to develop global competencies and inter-cultural communica�ons skills. Input seminar Basel The input seminar prepares par�cipants for engagement in discussions by providing overviews of the US and Swiss Higher Educa�on and Research landscapes and by beginning discussions on the leading theme of a year. Dates 2016: Wed 16 March (US); Thu 7 April (CH) Virginia Tech visits Basel & the Upper Rhine Region The two groups meet face-to-face for the first �me when the Virginia Tech delega�on visits Basel. GPP par�cipants receive an introduc�on to the University of Basel and the dynamics of the Upper Rhine research region. Joint seminar in Riva San Vitale, Ticino The 2-day joint seminar provides hands-on experience in working effec�vely across disciplines and cultures to address a shared concern. The programme’s lead theme of the year is explored in group work sessions. Outcomes flow into GPP closing conference presentations at the Swiss Embassy in Washington. Uni Basel in the US A week of engagement with the US Higher Educa�on and Research landscape. The week offers discussions with peers and senior faculty plus admin staff at universi�es such as Northeastern (NEU), Boston College, MIT, Virginia Tech. Presenta�on material for the GPP closing conference is further developed. Preparatory work Par�cipants familiarise themselves with the US ins�tu�ons to be visited during the programme; background reading on the leading theme of the current round. Global Perspec�ves Conference Hosted by the Embassy of Switzerland, Washington, the Global Perspec�ves conference takes place at the end of the US visiting week. Presenta�ons on the programme’s lead theme are delivered by joint US - Swiss panels. Reports Par�cipants are expected to produce a report on their findings at the end of the programme period. Reports will be published in an online GPP Manual and presented at the occasion of a public GPP Info Gathering in November in Basel.
