WELCOME FROM THE CHAIRMANHello and welcome to the KGV for one of the quarter final matches in the Gales HSB Hampshire Bowl competition. Today sees a re-run of a match played twice previously between St Jacques and Eastleigh Rugby Clubs, although it has been some time since the last meeting. This will be the fifth occasion that St Jacques have faced ‘mainland’ opposition in this competition, having also played Andover and Farnborough in previous years.
Eastleigh are a long established Club, with their roots dating back as far as 1871, although the Club was ‘officially’ formed in 1931. Whilst St Jacques cannot go back that far, we have been affiliated to the RFU since 1978, and despite (sadly) other local clubs forming and folding, we are still flying the flag for junior rugby in the Island.
Eastleigh have been a consistent side since the introduction of league rugby, generally maintaining their level between Hants 1 and London Div 3 South-West, where they currently sit, having finished 5th in their division last season. At the time of writing, they sit in 4th place, with 9 wins out of 12, just one point behind Ellingham & Ringwood in 3rd. St Jacques will need to raise their game today to get the result! For the players and coaches, it’s time to reap some reward for the effort made in training, and build on some good results in earlier games this season.
We hope that those of you enjoying lunch after the game have a great time, and we look forward to taking part in some of the more ‘social’ rugby traditions once the players are changed and back in the bar.
