CIRQUE DU SLAY Bloody

Film TitleThese are the seven fonts that I am considering using as the font for my film title. This font will feature in the trailer, on the film poster and on the front cover. Therefore it is important that I pick the write font that will represent the narrative and style of my film and also the Slasher genre. To do this I have chosen to present my title in the trailer and on the poster and front cover in either the colours Black or Red. This will allow my title to instantly reflect the horror genre and the Slasher sub-genre. I will most likely use a combination of the two, with ‘Slay’ in red, and ‘Cirque Du’ in Black. I have decided to use a font that is the easiest to read as although some of these fonts would be effective, they are not very easy to read.

A love of thunder – This font is an uppercase serif font that connotes strength, dominance and power. Although this is an effective font, I don’t think it reflects horror and fear. It is not the most effective font for my horror film.

Beyond Wonderland - this font is more of a fantasy than a horror font. I like this font but I feel that it would be more effective in a mythical or fantasy film rather than a horror film. It also doesn’t connote any sort of link with my circus theme. The ink-pen style to this font also reflects a historical nature.

Face your fears – This font is a much more horror-looking font than the other two fonts. The main thing that it connotes is death. This is due to its appearance of a blood splatter as if the antagonist has written it in his victims blood. This is clearly an effective font for a horror film title, however I want a font that mimics the ‘Cirque Du Soleil’ font.

Necropsy – This font is also very horror looking font. However, it seems to connote youth and children. This is due to the stylisic features and the way the letters are composed. I think this font would be more effective in supernatural horror where a possessed child is the dominant theme.

RingBearer – this is my favourite font. It is exactly what I was wanted for part of the title. It is very similar to the Cirque Du Soleil font so will allow the audience to instantly make the connection. It’s style is very subtle in suggesting horror, but combined with one of the more obvious fonts, it will be very effective.

Bloody – This is one of the more effective fonts of the ones I have shortlisted. This is because it instantly connotes horror. The droplet style dripping from each of the letters would be extremely effective is the font was presented in red. I think this font, combined with the Ringbearer font would be extremely effective and instantly reflects the Slasher sub-genre and the narrative.

Film Title I have chosen to use Ringbearer as the dominating font for the film title. This is because a serif font appears to be a commonly used font style in the horror genre. I feel it was also the most easily readable font of the seven I chose and also the most effective in reflecting the horror genre and the narrative of my film. Also, as the title of my film is a play on the well-know Cirque Du Soleil, I wanted to find a font that was similar to the one used for Cirque du Soleil. Both the Ringbearer font and the one used for Cirque Du Soleil are Serif fonts that feature the olden style ‘Q’, where the tail flicks under the next letter. This will allow the audience to make a stronger link between Cirque Du Soleil and Cirque Du Slay

Magazine TitleAs my magazine Premiere is targeted at a niche group of film fanatics, I wanted to create a brand that reflects Classic cinema. This is why I chose these five fonts as they each reflect the classic old school style of cinema. The chosen font will be used as the masthead on the front cover of my magazine. I want to use a font that looks professional and respectable rather than one that solely reflects the horror genre, as my magazine will focus and promote upcoming popular films rather than focusing on one genre. These fonts reflect the film industry as a whole. I am planning to use either the Riot Squad or AC Mountain fonts as they are easy to read and reflect the style of classic cinema. As my film is going to reflect the classic Slasher, it will fit in well as the front cover film for the special edition horror issue of Premiere.
