Food & Agriculture Did you know? l The Food & Agriculture Sector accounts for 5% of the region’s workforce, employing over 18,000 people l East Riding of Yorkshire is home to over 2,000 agricultural and food manufacturing businesses l British farmers and growers produce 63% of all the food we eat and in the future this amount will need to increase to feed a growing population. l Young’s are the UK’s number 1 fish & seafood business, with the popular brand products eaten a massive 225millions times a year l The Humber processes 70% of the UK;s chilled and frozen seafood l Around £1million of business is conducted weekly at Grimsby Fish market, the market sells 15,000 tonnes of seafood a year l For the Humber, the manufacturing and production of food and beverage products plays a large part in this sector; Yorkshire and the Humber is the country’s largest food producing region. l Jobs in the sector are requiring higher level skills.
