Standards and approvals
CE With the CE marking the manufacturer documents that the units sold by him adhereto the European directives for specified electrical equipment.
EHEDG The EHEDG (European Hygienic Equipment Design Group) prepares guidelines forEurope concerning the requirements for measuring systems in machines of the foodand pharmaceutical industry. Units with the EHEDG marking have been tested andapproved for the food and pharmaceutical industry in accordance with these guideli-nes.
3A Units with this marking comply with the hygienic standards applicable in the USA.They are approved for use in hygienic applications in the dairy industry.
UL / CSAor cULus
Units with this marking meet the requirements of UL (Underwriters Laboratories Inc.)and CSA (Canadian Standards Association). In many cases this approval is a prerequi-site for access to the North American market. cULus is a combined approval and cor-responds to the two individual approvals CSA and UL.
CCC CCC (China Compulsory Certification) is a mandatory Chinese certificate for certainproducts used in China. The products concerned are listed in a catalogue as definedby the Chinese authorities. Proximity sensors with a voltage range higher than 36 Vare subject to certification.
FDA FDA (Food and Drug Administration) is a US-American supervisory authority for foodand drugs. This authority grants approvals for products and materials used in thefood and pharmaceutical industries.
DKD The Deutscher Kalibrierdienst (DKD) is an association of calibration laboratories ofindustrial firms, research institutes, technical authorities, inspection and testing insti-tutes. The DKD calibration certificates prove traceability to national standards asrequired in ISO 9000 and the ISO/IEC 17025. They also serve as a metrological basisfor the control of measurement and test equipment within the framework of qualitymanagement.

Detection of pot lids
In food processing photoelectric sensorsare used more and more often in wetareas. The new photoelectric sensors ofthe OG wetline series in stainless steelhousing with protection IP 69K are per-fectly suited for these applications.
From page 54
PET bottles
The transparent material PET is usedmore and more often in the beverageindustry. In the past the adjustment ofthe sensors to the application was verycomplex. A novel system of photoelec-tric sensors with polarisation filter (O5Gseries) with very fine prismatic reflectorsis used.
From page 56
Cheese plant
Cleaning processes with aggressive cle-aning agents most commonly occur incheese plants. The photoelectric sensorsneed to be absolutely ingress-resistantin these conditions.
From page 54
Valve manifolds /rising stem valves
Valve manifolds offer a number of fillingand emptying routes without having toopen pipes or manually recouplingpanels. Inductive sensors or full-metalsensors of the T series with sensingfaces of stainless steel (316S12) or PEEKare used for detecting the valve posi-tion.

Run-dry protection
When conveying liquid food such asdairy products or beverages the productflow has to be monitored. Flow sensorsof the SI6000 series monitor the pumpto avoid dry running.
From page 60
Keg line
Kegs need to be cleaned before they arefilled. These kegging machines are partof the secondary systems as they haveno direct contact to the food. Specialifm pressure sensors of the PE seriesmonitor the correct pressure of the clea-ning agent.
From page 80
Homogeniser
Homogenisation is used for the disrup-tion of fat globules in the milk intomuch smaller ones and for their disper-sion. Fur this purpose the product is putunder pressure in the homogeniser. Avalve regulates the pressure. The specialtype PY is used to detect the homogeni-sation pressure.
From page 84
Level
Depending on their function we distin-guish between different tanks such asstorage tanks, silo tanks, intermediatestorage tanks, mixing tanks, and pro-cess tanks. ifm pressure sensors of thePI, PM or PH series are used for thedetection of the level and the systempressure.

Filter monitoring
Filters are required in nearly all produc-tion processes. They are used for clea-ning a product (nano-, ultra- and micro-filtration) or for the concentration ofsolutions (removal of water). ifm pressu-re sensors monitor uppipe and downpi-pe of the filter.
From page 68
Pasteurisation
For the life of the milk it is of highimportance to keep the correct exposu-re time and temperature of 60 °C to 70°C. The ifm temperature transmitters oftypes TAD and TAP do not require theusual calibration.
From page 98
Heat exchanger
In indirect heating a heat exchanger isused for the heat transmission. Wedistinguish between plate heat exchan-ger, tubular heat exchanger and scra-ped-surface heat exchanger. To monitorthe process temperature hygienic ifmtemperature sensors of type TM in con-junction with the evaluation electronicsof type TR can be integrated in theapplication.
From page 90
Process temperature
The monitoring of temperature isamongst the most important measuringtasks in the food industry. The calibra-tion-free temperature transmitters ofthe TAP series communicate via theestablished Profibus PA bus system. Thedevice supports the Profibus PA profile3.01 „temperature transmitter“.

Cheese press
In cheese production different types ofpresses are used. Pressure is used towithdraw the remaining liquid from thecurd. The compressed air of the pneu-matic cylinders is monitored by the efec-tor metris compressed air meter (SDseries).
From page 66
Separator
Separators can be used in many areas ofthe food industry. In milk processingthey are, for example, used for separa-ting milk into skimmed milk and cream. The efector octavis vibration diagnosticunit monitors the bearing of the motor.Maintenance measures can then be pre-cisely planned and plant uptime can beincreased.
From page 106
Vibration diagnosis
Critical machines such as the homoge-niser mean high standstill costs in theevent of a failure. The efector octavisvibration diagnosis unit continuouslymonitors the system condition and thusenables preventive maintenance.
From page 106
Rising stem valves
These valves are actuated by a linearstroke. As an alternative to the conven-tional solution with inductive sensorsthe efector valvis rising stem valve sen-sor detects the valve position. efectorvalvis signals up to three valve positionsto the controller: valve open, valve clo-sed and any interim position such asseat lift.

Ingress protection in all applications: IP 68 /IP 69 K.
Small housings: long sensing ranges up to70 mm, high switching frequencies.
Temperature shock resistant in the rangeof 0...100 °C.
High-grade stainless steel / PEEK: food-grade housing material combination.
Robust M12 connector with gold-platedcontacts plus permanently legible lasertype label.
Demanding applications
Since magnetic fields penetrate all non-magnetisable materials, it is possible to moni-tor, for example, pigs in stainless steel pipes by means of magnetic sensors. Therequirement of absolute ingress protection in this area of application is guaranteedby the protection rating IP 68 / IP 69 K.
Sensing range / Switching frequency
Magnetic sensors have a considerably higher sensing range compared to inductivesensors. They detect damping magnets without contact to up to 70 mm.
The ifm sensors reach a switching frequency of more than 5,000 Hz. This high swit-ching frequency applies to the whole temperature range.
Wide temperature range
Their insensitivity to very fast temperature changes in a wide temperature range of 0to 100 °C allows the use of the units even in applications with strong temperaturefluctuations.
Hygienic areas
Due to the material combination of PEEK and stainless steel as well as the robustM12 connectors with gold-plated contacts, the sensors are particularly suited for themost difficult conditions in hygienic food and pharmaceutical applications. Due tothe permanently legible laser type label the unit can still be clearly identified afteryears of aggressive cleaning.

Self-clamping fixture for easy adjustmentand quick mounting.
Practical: Easy fit ‘drop from the top’ intoa T-slot.
Unit versions available with connectioncable and M12 cable plug.
Moulded cable ensuring very good strainrelief.
Ingress protection in all applications dueto the high protection ratings IP 67 andIP 69 K.
A real alternative to the Reed switch.
Quick adjustment and easy mounting
The cylinder sensor can be easily inserted from above into the T-slot where it clickshome. For easy positioning of the correct switch point the sensor can now be movedin the slot. It is then permanently secured by tightening the slotted / hexagonal sok-ket screw – that’s it!
Long life
Non-contact sensors virtually work without wear and often achieve a longer life thanReed switches. This saves expensive repair and downtimes.
Robust design and good fixing
The sensor is locked in the slot, i.e. it is completely surrounded by it, ensuring mecha-nical stability. The moulded cable at the end of the sensor provides excellent strainrelief.
Five different cylinder profiles
We have developed special accessories in order to make the advantages of the newT-slot cylinder sensor also available for all other common cylinder types. The samesensor can be fixed to clean line cylinders, tie rod cylinders, T-slot cylinders, integra-ted profile cylinders and cylinders with trapezoidal slot using only one screw.

Fail-safe inductive sensors from ifm
A special counterpart such as a magnet or coded target is no longer necessary for thefunction of the fail-safe sensor. The fail-safe inductive sensor directly detects metalssuch as stainless steel or mild steel. It operates with an enable zone which is monito-red for target position and dwell time.
With reduced mounting input up to 10 fail-safe sensors can be connected in series. For the first time, the principle and advantages of inductive sensors can also be usedfor safety applications. A wear-free function due to the non-contact principle and ahigh protection rating guarantee high uptime of the machines and installations.
For applications in conveying processes roller lever switches or counterparts such asmagnets are no longer necessary.
The input and output signals of the sensors correspond to DIN EN 61131-2. They aretherefore fully compatible with and can be connected to the inputs and outputs of aPLC. The possible connection to ifm evaluation relays, the bus system AS-i Safety atWork, PROFIsafe, Interbus Safety, safe PLC and logic modules via TÜV-certified soft-ware modules facilitates use.

Dual sensors and mounting accessories forall common valves.
Complete system solutions for quarter-turn actuators.
Type IND for all actuators toVDI / VDE 3845.
20% cost reduction compared toswitchbox mounting.
Dual sensors with integratedAS-i connection.
Inductive dual sensor for position feedback on quarter-turn actuators.
Introduction
In industrial processes where liquids, air or gases are used, valves are needed fordosing and control. There is a wide variety of valve types; butterfly or ball valvesbeing the most common quarter-turn types.
These valves are seldom operated manually. Pneumatic valve actuators are normallyused for mechanical positioning. The valve position must be monitored electronical-ly. On the one hand to provide a feedback to the controller when a certain position(e.g. „open“ or „closed“) is reached. On the other hand it is necessary to monitorthe valves centrally.
Mechanical switches are still often used for position feedback on the actuator shaft. For other solutions several proximity sensors are used together with a switch targetfor position detection. Disadvantage of these methods: mounting is mechanicallycomplex. During switch mounting the signal wires can be reversed when they areconnected in the top-mounted junction box. Where there are temperature fluctua-tions condensing humidity leads to corrosion and thus malfunction.

Freely selectable switching outputs:valve open / closed, seat lift.
Saves up to three binary sensors and theiradjustment.
Resolution of 0.2 mm across the entiremeasuring range.
Position programming by pushbuttonsand LED feedback.
Permanent valve monitoring forcondition-based maintenance.
Applications
efector valvis was designed for feedback of the valve positions on rising stem valveswith a stroke of up to 80 mm. The sensor is fitted over the valve spindle and conti-nuously measures the stroke. Three freely programmable switching outputs transmitthe actual limits of travel to the controller.
Feedback and diagnosis
efector valvis signals up to three important valve positions to the controller: valveopen, valve closed and any position in-between (e.g. for the seat lift). The resolutionof the measuring path of 0.2 mm allows condition-based maintenance of the valvedisk seals.
This way the maintenance intervals can be adapted to the actual wear, which in turnincreases life
and uptime.
Installation
The set ZZ0214 contains all that is required for automating a rising stem valve.
The items supplied cover the rising stem valve sensor, adapter and the actuating ele-ment of stainless steel.
Quick installation of the adapter and easy switch point teaching by pressing a push-button on the sensor reduce the set-up time.

PMD technology
Due to the innovative on-chip time-of-flight measurement system with PMD techno-logy (Photonic Mixer Device) the O1D is a distance sensor with the capacities of ameasurement system, at the price of a standard sensor.
The outstanding advantage of the PMD technology is the extremely small size of thesensor, only 42 x 42 x 52 mm. With O1D distances can also be measured reliablywhen the light beam does not hit the object surface vertically. If surfaces are notshiny, the angle of incidence of the light beam can be up to 45°. The laser ofO1D155 conforms to the laser protection class 1.
Unimagined possibilities
efector PMD is designed for positioning, speed control and level measurement tasksand to protect autonomous industrial transport systems against collision or enablepositioning tasks in high rack storage areas for industrial trucks.

O-ring free sealing concept for maintenan-ce-free (long-term) operation.
Optimum accuracy (0.2 %) and fast tempe-rature compensation.
Overload resistant and drift-free ceramicmeasuring cell with highest purity (99.9%).
Determination of zero point and measu-ring range via teach button.
Optional parameter setting and documen-tation via PC connection.
Flush pressure sensors for integration in aseptic processes
The electronic pressure sensors type PI with analogue output and switching outputhave been adapted to the higher requirements of process technology implementinga number of innovations and a fundamentally new housing design. This means:
• Total accuracy of 0.2 %
• Improved temperature decoupling
• Fast temperature compensation
• „Automatic“ adjustment of the zero point
• Inverse function of the analogue output (20...4 mA / 10...0 V)
• „Automatic“ adjustment of the upper and lower ends of the analogue output
The „automatic“ adjustment functions can be performed by simply pressing a push-button. So the adjustment for the hydrostatic level measurement becomes an easyoperation adapted to the needs. The additional indication in % referred to the mea-suring range enables the user to read and evaluate the hydrostatic level quickly andwithout having to convert the actual analogue value.

Diagnosis of disturbance in the suctionarea (e.g. cavitation).
Outgassing liquids and air trapped in thepump are detected.
Independent system-pressure monitoringwith second binary switching output.
As an alternative: pump control via analo-gue output.
Hygienic design to avoid deposits and forbetter cleaning.
Advantages of the pump diagnostic sensor
The pump diagnostic sensor enables diagnosis independently of pump type, pumpcharacteristics and rotational speed range. The conveying characteristics of the pumpto be monitored is continuously detected. Significant changes are detected and leadto an automatic alarm message when critical operating states with damage potenti-al for the pump or system are reached.
The state of the pump can be quickly detected via a trend display.
In addition the system pressure is shown periodically. The pump sensor can be set upeasily and without specialist knowledge. The conveying characteristics of the pump issimply taught.

Measuring cell placed on Teflon flat sealfor stable operation.
Elasticity of the seal area in the front flushprocess connection.
No pumping effect of the Teflon seal foraseptic process requirements.
Maintenance-free over the whole lifecycle - sealed due to potted housing.
Overload resistant and drift-free ceramicmeasuring cell with highest purity (99.9%).
An extraordinary sensor for safe operation: pressure sensor PM/PH
Really maintenance-free!
On the market for one decade, but still revolutionary and unequalled: The ceramicmeasuring cell (purity 99.9 %) lies on a Teflon flat sealing (FDA conforming) and isprestressed on the medium side by means of a metal spring-ring seal - and all thisintegrated in the sensor!
Stable and sensitive at the same time
The decision not to use an O-ring for support or sealing the sensor has the followingadvantages for the customer:
• Service intervals and search for resistant O-ring qualities become obsolete.
• Optimum cleanability not only of the new unit - important for aseptic applications.
• The long-term stability of the ceramic measuring cell is fully used.
• Overload and vacuum resistance even under difficult dynamic conditions such ascompressive oscillation caused by resonance.
Reduced stock-keeping
Parameter setting of the sensors to the measuring point is possible via an optionalprogramming module. A modular connection concept with tried-and-tested ASEP-TOFLEX sealing concept (certification to 3A and EHEDG) allows the selection of theprocess connection in situ.
Teflon is a registered trademark of the company DuPont.

Chemical resistance due to high-purityceramic measuring cell (99.9%).
Extremely robust due to specially suppor-ted ceramic measuring cell.
Low-cost alternative in non-asepticperipheral processes.
Setting and measured values indicatedon a 4-digit 10-segment-display.
Drift-free operation for more than 100million pressure cycles.
Pressure sensors for secondary systems with process connection G 1/4“
The alternative
The pressure sensors type PE have been designed for secondary systems in the foodindustry where robust units with local display are required. The high-purity ceramicmeasuring cell (Al2O3) in conjunction with the EPDM sealing ensure overload-free,long-term stable operation and high chemical resistance. An extensive and clearlystructured menu allows, for example, the country-specific selection of units(bar/mbar, Pa/MPa, psi) and output polarity (NPN/PNP).
The applications
As opposed to the flush mountable sensors type PI/PM the PE sensors can be usedwhere
• pure liquids are detected
• chemical resistance to common cleaning agents as e.g. in food processes is requi-red (hot water, diluted alkalis and acids)
• a simple imperial adaptation is sufficient
• cross contamination does not need to be excluded
• a low-cost alternative is necessary.
Special features
This range of sensors is distinguished by the high operational reliability and the preci-sion of the tried-and-tested ifm pressure sensor technology together with a high pro-tection rating. High switch point accuracy (0.5%) of the two independent set andreset points at minimum hysteresis (0.5%) make this vacuum resistant sensor a price-optimised unit for your peripheral processes.

Pressure monitoring in homogenising plants with ifm pressure sensorsPY9970 / PY9000
Monitoring homogenisation
An important work step, e.g. in the processing of milk or fat, is the homogenising ofsuspensions for the purpose of emulsion and flocculation stability. For a targeted andreproducible homogenising process the pump aggregate must be monitored orregulated with regard to pressure conditions.
ifm offers two high-quality pressure sensors for this task. The pressure pick-up of thePY9970 consists of a membrane separator filled with an FDA conform medium; atthe end of this separator is a tried-and-tested pressure sensor with a ceramic-capaci-tive measuring cell for evaluation.
The PY9000 does not require a membrane separator. The pressure sensor can beintegrated directly in the process by means of a wheel flange to detect the prevailingpressure directly by means of a drift-free and long-term stable ceramic measuringcell. The patented tried-and-tested measuring cell support ensures a long-term andsafe operation in homogenising applications.
Application example
For this purpose the analogue output of both pressure sensors can, for example, beintegrated in the control of the piston pump to define the pressure corridor for adju-sting the aggregate to the nozzle gap. Since positive-displacement pumps move intocritical pressure ranges with the vane closed, an emergency-stop can be effected wit-hin a few milliseconds via the set point when a predefined maximum pressure isexceeded. This function could also be used as alarm function in the case of respon-ding bypass systems.

Monitoring homogenisation
In the process industry mechanical contact manometers are often used because oftheir highly visible display. The electronic “contact manometer” of the series PGcom-bines the high visibility of a manometer display with the advantages of an elec-tronic pressure sensor. Compared to mechanical contact manometers it featuresmore varied options.
The basic unit is a high-quality pressure sensor designed for the process industrycompleted by an analogue dis-play with high readability. Especially the programmab-le switching output and analogue output (scalable), the high overload protection aswell as the integrated temperature compensation are worth mentioning. The mano-meter has a resolution of 0.25 %. When disconnected, the pointer is not visible.
Aseptoflex Vario – the new process connection with 4 sealing options
The new process connection Aseptoflex Vario with G 1 thread enables sealing via ametal sealing edge, O-rings of various materials (e.g. EPDM or FKM), a PEEK ring orcommon sealing materials (e.g. teflon tape). Various process adapters (clamp,DIN11851 pipe fittings, etc.) are available as accessories.
In addition, the G 1 thread fits into conventional adapters and T-pieces. Sealing atthe thread via an additional slot which can locate an O-ring or flat seal is possible.

Control monitor, type TR
The temperature measuring amplifier type TR is a universal control and display unitfor the connection of platinum (Pt) temperature sensors. The electronics automatical-ly detect whether Pt100 or Pt1000 sensors are connected. In combination with thewide measuring range of -40 to +300 °C an enormous number of common tempe-rature measurement and monitoring tasks in the manufacturing and process indu-stries are solved using just one unit. Moreover, the control monitor can be positionedeither directly on site on the sensor or remotely using a connection cable.
Hygienic probe sensors with connection thread, type TM
With process adapters (accessory), the TM type temperature probe sensors are suita-ble for installation in tanks and pipes in hygienic applications. By means of the moun-ting set E30089 (accessory) the probe sensor can be directly connected to the TRcontrol monitor.
Hygienic probe sensors, type TT
Temperature probe sensors of the type TTx061 have a flexible immersion depthwhen used with the clamp adapters E34x10 (accessory), and are therefore suited forinstallation in tanks and pipes. By means of the mounting set E30017 (accessory) theprobe sensor can be directly connected to the TR control monitor. Optional thermo-wells provide additional protection and enable replacement of the temperature sen-sor without having to stop the current process.
Cable sensors, type TS
In addition to the probe of high-grade stainless steel, cable sensors feature a connec-tion cable and can therefore be used for remote applications in conjunction withthermowells (accessory). The sensors are connected to the control monitor using theintegrated M12 connectors.

High-precision temperature transmitter(e.g. for pasteurisers).
High precision (absolute: +/- 0.1 K at 60 °C,total 0.3 K).
Different process connections.
2-wire analogue output (4...20 mA).
AS-Interface protocol S-7.3.
Precise temperature measurement and good response times
for all applications
In the food industry, but also in other industrial applications, precise temperaturemeasurement is mandatory. Pasteurising and fermentation processes in particularoften take place in a temperature range of 60 to 70 °C. In this temperature range thetwo-wire temperature transmitter reaches its highest accuracy of 0.1 K.
Excellent dynamic response
High mechanical stability, but at the same time high dynamic response – a contradic-tion. But the temperature transmitter type TA was designed to reach an extremelygood dynamic response and still provide high mechanical strength which makes theunit suitable even for fast control requirements.
Flexible mounting possibilities simplify installation
The temperature transmitter TA is not only distinguished by its technical data, butalso by its flexibility in mounting. In combination with the available accessories thefollowing installation ways can be achieved:
• Installation with common mounting adapters G 1/2“
• Installation with welding adapter E30055 (ball) and E30056 (collar)
• Installation in pipes with progressive ring fitting E30016 (G1/2“) or E30024 (NPT)
• Installation with clamp adapter E34110 and combination with common processadapters such as Clamp, DIN, Varivent etc.

Including free 5-point calibrationcertificate.
Precision of 0.2 K at -10...100 °C and 0.3 Kat -25...-10 / 100...150 °C.
Increased process safety dueto self-monitoring.
Cost savings due to eliminationof calibration.
No more calibration
The use of two different sensor elements which monitor each other in the processensures that a developing sensor drift is immediately detected and reliably diagno-sed. Furthermore, if one element fails, the process can be continued with the secondmeasuring element (backup function).
Profibus PA or 4…20 mA output
The TAP series complements the tried-and-tested and calibration-free TAD tempera-ture sensors (4...20 mA). TAP transmitters communicate via the established bussystem Profibus PA. The unit supports the Profibus PA profile 3.01 „TemperatureTransmitter“ including the extension for “Installation and Maintenance” and an opti-mised diagnostic function for drift monitoring.

Quick and easy to mount.
Supports the parameter setting of IO-Linkand EPS sensors.
In combination with FDT manufacturer-independent exchange of data.
Device configuration, documentation anddiagnostics for the entire plant.
No need for additional power supply.
USB interface for parameter setting of sensors
The USB interface has long been established as standard interface on common PCsand notebooks and replaced the RS-232 interface common in the past. ifm allows forthis development and provides an USB interface (USB 2.0) enabling direct parametersetting of IO-Link and EPS sensors via the USB interface of a computer. To do so, thesensor to be parameterised does not have to be supplied via an additional powersupply. The unit is directly supplied from the PC. In combination with the ifm Contai-ner, which is provided free of charge on CD, parameter setting and documentationare a child’s play.

Versatile and flexible application solutionswith little stock-keeping.
Quick and easy to mount.
Adapter for every process connection.
ASEPTOFLEX adaptation. Aseptic interfaces for pressure, flow andtemperature sensors
The history
In process sensor technology a large variety of country or company-specific variantshave been added over the years to the range of standardised process connectionssuch as clamp or pipe fittings. A reason for ifm to produce their fluid sensors in seriesproduction, optimising costs and ensuring fast delivery times - all for the benefit ofthe customer. With just a few basic units the user can cover a wide range of applica-tions at minimum stock-keeping. In addition, the customer himself can connect theadapters with the sensors without any problems on site.
The technology
In this ifm-specific sealing variant the continuous elastic metallic edge of the adapterpresses into the conical counterpart of the process connection. The surfaces of thestainless steel precision parts involved are only deformed in the plastic or elasticrange. This unique way of sealing based on the finite element method (FEM) canhandle fast load and temperature changes without any problems. For more than 10years this technology has been used in aseptic applications. They fully meet the requi-rements of EHEDG and 3A.

For optimum uptime of critical machines.
Vibration diagnosis
Vibration diagnosis provides most comprehensive information for early damage dia-gnosis and for judging operating conditions. efector octavis continuously detects, analyses and evaluates vibrations on the machine surface. The following damagesand operating conditions can be reliably detected already at an early stage by meansof vibration diagnosis: rolling element bearing damage, damage to couplings, rub-bing, gear-mesh damage, unbalance, alignment condition, cavitation, externalinfluences (e.g. crash), metal cutting operations, etc.
Condition monitoring
The field units of type VE feature 5 diagnosis objects (20 frequency bands) and 1 g-monitor to evaluate the general vibration condition. The control cabinet units (typeVSE) can use the signals from up to 4 vibration sensors (type VSA) and dispose of atotal of 20 diagnosis objects and 4 level values or 16 diagnostic objects and 8 levelvalues.
Internal trend memories
All units of the octavis family feature an internal trend memory which ensures detai-led analysis and optimisation of the application even without external data recording.Freely selectable storage intervals enable adaptation of the storage length of the nonvolatile ring memory to the requirements.

Controller e - 1 or 2 AS-i masters withintegrated PLC and fieldbus gateway.
AS-i repeater with electrical separation forextension of the cable.
Standard 24 V and AS-i power supplieswith high efficiency.
SmartLine – analogue I/Os for the connec-tion of process signals.
SmartLine – digital I/Os in space-savingcontrol cabinet housing.
The basic components for the operation of an AS-i network:master/gateway, power supply, repeater
The AS-i master controls the data communication of the connected slaves (modules). The Controller e contains up to 2 AS-i masters. Up to 31 single or 62 A/B slaves canbe connected per master. This means that up to 248 digital I/Os or 248 analoguechannels can be operated. In the gateway mode the Controller e works with higher-level bus systems such as Profibus.
The sensors are supplied via the yellow AS-i bus cable and the special AS-i powersupply. If higher currents are required for actuators, a wide range of standard 24 Vpower supplies is available.
By means of the repeater the cable can be extended to a total bus length of 200 m.Because of the electrical separation two AS-i segments with separate supplies can beoperated.
SmartLine I/O module for the control cabinet:
• Very slim modules with a width of only 25 or 50 mm.
• Digital or analogue inputs and outputs.
• Pt100 modules with direct linearised temperature transmission to the master.
• Plug-in Combicon terminals, with either screw terminals, insulation displacementterminals or cage clamps.

CompactLine - the robust AS-i field modu-les with digital inputs/outputs.
ClassicLine – modules with standardisedinterface to the AS-i flat cable.
ClassicLine - modules with Viton seals andstainless steel screws
Modules to AS-i specification 2.1 withextended addressing mode.
Simple 4-channel analogue modules.
The simple set-up of an AS-i network: with addressing unit, completelywithout software
AS-i networks are easy-to-handle ‘plug-and-go’ systems. They are set up in 3 simplesteps:
1. Address module with addressing unit.
2. Connect AS-i master and power supply to the yellow flat cable.
3. Connect module with piercing technology to the flat cable. - Ready!
Field modules with piercing technology
CompactLine modules have integrated contact pins which can be connected directlyto the AS-i flat cable. The cable does not have to be cut, stripped and wired anymore. Contacting of the ClassicLine modules takes place in the separate flat cablelower part. They are also used for setting up bus branches and spurs. The bus contactis fixed mechanically and is kept when modules are replaced.
Analogue modules are available with all classical signals such as voltage, current, andtemperature.

Safety at Work is the extension of the existing AS-Interface system forsafety applications.
ifm AS-Interface for safety applications „Safety at Work“
AS-Interface has become a standard for binary units in automation. Due to standar-disation in IEC 62026-2 and to its easy handling this system has established itself allover the world. So far, the only still conventionally wired signals were the safety-rela-ted signals. With the AS-i extension „Safety at Work“ this has now come to an end.
Safety at Work reaches the highest control category 4 according to EN 954-1 (IEC61508/SIL 3) and can thus even be used for emergency-stop applications with thestop category 0 and 1. Approvals regarding safe data transmission are available fromBIA and TÜV.
AS-i Safety at Work can be used for both new installations and for retrofitting of exi-sting AS-i installations because it works with all standard masters.
It must only be ensured that, when using repeaters, max. two repeaters may be used.
The ordinary AS-i 4-bit protocol is a prerequisite for the use of Safety at Work com-ponents. As standard masters and controllers are to be used, a safety protocol isgenerated by the safe slaves and monitored by a new AS-i component, the safetymonitor. The safety monitor monitors all connected safety slaves and ensures switch-off or the triggering of the safety system in the case of any disturbance.
