Tom latest learning:

• Reading Learned Optimism by Martin Seligman.

• One of the main researchers of “learned helplessness”.

• Also reading a study by IFPRI on Ethiopia called, “Beyond Fatalism: An Empirical Exploration of Self-Efficacy and Aspirations Failure in Ethiopia”.

• Wondering how many of the findings and interventions from Positive Psychology are just waiting to be applied in countries where we work. There’s sometimes a high correlation between optimistic / fatalistic beliefs and behavior.

• Should we be taking this more into account in our programs? What are the barriers to doing so? Should we begin collecting literature on this area and see what we find?
