Chef Nicholas Elmi
Fans of Bravo’s “Top Chef” competition seriesmight recognize Nicholas Elmi as last year’s winnerof season 11.
But Elmi has been racking up other regionaland national honors since opening his RestaurantLaurel in Philadelphia in November 2013.
Locatedon East Passyunk Avenue – namedone of the top 10 “Foodie Streets in America” byFood and Wine — Elmi’s 22-seat gem continues todelight critics and neighbors alike.
Philadelphia Magazine recently placed Laurel
No. 1 on its list of the 50 best restaurants inPhiladelphia, noting “the chef shines from the rstbite of chilled tuna and horseradish to the nalforkful of dessert.”
Laurel was also named the eighth bestrestaurant in America by GQ Magazine and nameda semi-nalist by the James Beard Foundation forBest New Restaurant in America and for Best ChefMid-Atlantic.
As for the critics: Laurel garnered three bellsfrom award-winning critic Craig Laban of thePhiladelphia Inquirer and three and a half starsfrom Trey Popp of Philadelphia Magazine.
Elmi is a graduate of Culinary Instituteof America and a native of West Newbury,Massachusetts. He has worked in some of the toprestaurants on the East Coast, including Le Bec Fin,Union Pacic and Oceana, as well as Guy Savoy inParis.

inspired American cuisine with a nod to regionaltradition and contemporary avors.A VIP ticket to Chef Elmi’s demonstration at
the Food and Spirits Festival will include a tastingof his Fresh Ricotta Gnocchi with Pancetta, Garlicand Sour Dough and a White Chocolate Puddingdessert, along with an appropriate wine pairing.

Barbie Marshall is not afraid to get herhands dirty — in the kitchen or in the garden.
The chef partner of SOOP Catering andsouthwest Philadelphia native began cookingat age 5 and developed a passion early on forfeeding as well as teaching others to enjoyfood.
At 14, Marshall began cookingprofessionally at Ritz Hall Catering. She wenton to attend culinary school at Johnson andWales University in Virginia and worked inrestaurants including The Smokehouse &Cooler, Cuisine & Company, Cobalt Grille andTodd Jurich’s Bistro.
It was during this time she became avidlycommitted to local, sustainable ingredients.
Marshall eventually returned to Philadelphiato work at The Philadelphia Fish & Company,1224 Raw, Rx Restaurant and SOOP Catering.In 2007, her research and work on sustainablefoods led her to accept a position as a farmerat Green Meadow Farm in Lancaster County.
She is known as The Farming Chef forusing ingredients she has grown from the soilto the plate.
A champion for sustainable foods and ahealthy approach to eating, Marshall launchedonto the national stage when she nished asa nalist on season 10 of “Hell’s Kitchen.”
She has been invited to participatein celebrity chef appearances anddemonstrations from coast to coast, and toparticipate in panel discussions on topicssuch as “Women in the Industry,” “Food TVToday” and “Sustainable Farming.”
The Farming Chef focuses on sustainability
Ralph Mazzocchi is the architect of aseries of successful restaurants that havetransformed the restaurant scene in LancasterCounty.
He came by his success the old-fashionedway, working his way from the ground upfrom his rst job, washing dishes at a smallupscale restaurant. After spending one day inthe kitchen the course of his life was changed.He saw cooking as the ultimate art form,because it incorporates all of the senses —smell, touch, taste, sight and sound.
Ralph moved to New York City to expandhis knowledge and happily began hiseducation under the tutelage of Master ChefPatrick Clark at the Odeon. One year later hemoved on to the Rainbow Room, owned atthe time by restaurant guru Tony May. Beforeleaving the Big Apple he also honed his skillsat the Century Café and the Saloon.
Moving back to Lancaster, Ralphdeveloped his own style — an “infusion”method of cooking that brings together
eclectic avors from traditional and classiccooking styles.
In his 24 years in the kitchen, he hasworked as executive chef, created andopened the bistro-style restaurants GallaRosso and Mazzi Designed Dining, andperformed as guest chef and presenterat numerous regional benets and foodfestivals.
He is the owner and chef of Ralph’sGourmet Take-Away in Lancaster. In 2014, hewon Spike TV’s “Frankenfood” reality cookingcompetition with his recipe for Angry Ralph’sLobster Mac and Cheese.
