PURPOSEEveryone eats, but not everyone eats the same

things, and the differences in diet from one culture to the next can be very dramatic. Students are encouraged to share their culture through food by inviting them to talk about and share dishes typical in their countries. This unit will teach students the basics of nutrition while integrating cultural awareness. To do this, students will need a background on nutritional concepts including reading food labels. Students will use these concepts to research a culture, specifically a food, and create a menu from the country of their choice and prepare a national dish for their class presentation.

Discussions of stereotype and diversity help students gain sensitivity to the strengths and needs of different people around the world.
