But the offense wasn’t the only entertainment supplied by Aledo on a breezy night in East Parker County. The Bearcat defense, led by senior Rylan Riney, held the Hawks to 10 points in the fi rst half. Riney had two interceptions with eight yards and three solo tackles.

Sigma Swimmers off to a great start this season
The month of October has proved to be a great start for the Sigma swimmers in their USA Swimming short course season. Recently Sigma swimmers competed against teams from all over the Metroplex. Sigma sends swimmers of all ages and abil-ities to meets each month. Their goals range from achieving personal best times, to not being disqualifi ed, to just being with their friends.
Sigma’s emphasis on technique and perseverance are paying off. Many Sigma swimmers are excelling in the state arena, the high school arena and at their age group month-ly swim meets.
Sigma gathers swimmers at Texas Wesleyan University in Fort Worth, six days per week. They travel from all over the Metroplex to workout with the team. Swimmers come from Fort Worth, Aledo, Mineral Wells, Weatherford and Burleson.
Sigma is led by Head Coach Andrew Ha who, along with his staff of Selena Stewart, Eric Montez, and Adam Grillo, daily encourages kids to seek the best in themselves.
Sigma swimming currently offers an early after school lesson program and training group, as well as their year round swim program. For more information, visit www.sigmaswim-ming.org.
thought he was going to catch it.”Buchanan summed up Riney,
who’s been playing varsity since his sophomore year, with just a simple sentence.
“Good football player,” the vet-eran head coach said, “Just a great kid.”
Aledo led at halftime 20-10. The Bearcats came back in the third quarter to score an additional 20 points and that’s all they would need for their ninth “W.” Birdville scored seven points in the third quarter.
“They (Birdville) came out and played hard,” Buchanan said. “I never really felt like we had the game in the bag until late in the third quarter.”
The Bearcats take to the road for their fi nal game of the regu-lar season before the start of the
playoffs. Buchanan said the goal is to end the regular season at 10-0 (the team fi nished with a loss to Weatherford in ’09) but he says it won’t come easy. To achieve their goal, the head coach gives them the simplest advice.
“The biggest thing is get better every day, don’t take a day off in practice,” he said. “If you want to win the state championship – which is what they want to do, its their team and they set their goals and that’s what they say they want to do – and if you want to do that, you’ve got to get better every day.
“If you don’t, somebody else is and you’re not going to win in the end.”
