Top Story - The Robert Morris University football team concludes its 2011 campaign Saturday with a Noon kickoff against crosstown rival Duquesne at Rooney Field in Pittsburgh, Pa. The Colonials are coming off a 38-17 loss to Wagner (11/12) in their final home game of the 2011 sea- son, RMU’s fifth straight loss. Freshman quarterback Matt Layman earned his first career start under center against Wagner and finished 6-for-16 passing for 70 yards before being knocked out of the game in the third quarter. Sophomore Tyler Forbes came on in relief of Layman and completed 10 of his 21 passing attempts for 140 yards, a touchdown and an interception and will make his first career start Saturday against the Dukes. Forbes hit senior wide receiver Jamie Cobb with a 38-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter against the Seahawks, while redshirt freshman Deontae Howard scored his first collegiate touchdown with a one-yard run with 5:49 remaining. Robert Morris enters Saturday’s game against Duquesne having used eight different starting lineups on both offense and defense in 2011, with 25 Colonials having earned their first career start. In all, a total of 40 Colonials have earned starting assignments in 2011, including 19 each on both offense and defense. Head Coach Joe Walton18th Season - Pittsburgh ’57
At the forefront of the football renaissance at RobertMorris University throughout its 18-year history is JoeWalton, who has built the Colonials from a fledglingprogram into one of the top Football ChampionshipSubdivision (FCS) teams in the region.
The one constant associated with the program,Walton was named the first head coach July 27, 1993. Hestarted the program from scratch, completing every-thing from hiring assistant coaches to purchasingequipment to recruiting student-athletes for the team’sinaugural season in 1994.
Walton’s fingerprints are all over the football pro-gram, and to prove that, RMU has played its homegames since 2005 in a stadium that bears his name.
During his tenure, Walton has led Robert Morris to the first Northeast Conferencechampionship in 1996, guided RMU to a perfect 10-0 season in 2000 and in 2010helped lead the Colonials to the NEC’s inaugural bid to the NCAA FCS Playoffs withtheir league-high sixth regular-season championship.
“It’s hard to believe,” Walton speaks on how fast time has elapsed. “I’ve said thismany times before, and I mean it when I say that this situation is one of the bestthings that has ever happened to me in my life. It happened at the right time.Before this position became available, I felt I was too young to quit coaching, but Iwasn’t anxious to get back into pro football. When this came along, it was the per-fect fit. This situation was the perfect opportunity for me to continue to do what Ilike to do, and I’ve loved every minute of it.”
Under Walton’s tutelage, the Colonials have claimed outright NEC regular-seasontitles three times (1997, 1999, 2000) while sharing three others (1996, 1998, 2010).Walton led Robert Morris to back-to-back ECAC Bowl victories in 1996 and 1997,and in 1999 and 2000 he guided RMU to a pair of NCAA I-AA mid-major nationalcrowns according to Don Hansen’s National Weekly Football Gazette.
In 2010, Walton added to his legacy by engineering the Colonials on an eight-game winning streak for a share of the NEC regular-season title and the NEC’s firstbid in the NCAA FCS Playoffs. In the process he picked up his 100th career victoryin the collegiate ranks.

Joe Walton Stadium (Attendance: 2,873) - Robert Morris scored 27 unanswered points to turn a3-0 deficit into a 27-3 advantage and running back Myles Russ became the program’s all-timeleading rusher as the Colonials earned their seventh straight win with a 34-11 victory overDuquesne.
Duquesne took an early 3-0 advantage when Eric Duale connected for a 34-yard field goal atthe 3:57 mark of the first quarter. Russ had fumbled for Robert Morris on its previous possession,with Horvin Latimer recovering for the Dukes.
The Colonials took a 7-3 lead in the second quarter when quarterback Jeff Sinclair scoredfrom nine yards out. Sinclair increased RMU’s lead to 14-3 when he rushed for his second touch-down on the afternoon, this time for five yards with just 2:28 remaining before halftime.
Duquesne went three-and-out on its next possession, and the Colonials got great field posi-tion when Evan Taylor returned an Aaron Fleck punt 32 yards to set up the RMU offense at the39-yard line of Duquesne. Two plays later Sinclair hit tight end Shadrae King on a cross pattern, and King galloped into theend zone for a 32-yard touchdown catch and a 21-3 Robert Morris advantage.
Russ gave the Colonials a 27-3 lead early in the fourth quarter when he scored from six yardsout, a run that also helped him become the all-time leading rusher at RMU. On the afternoonRuss finished with 154 yards and two touchdowns on 30 attempts, pushing his career rushingtotal to 3,868 yards. He eclipsed former Colonial and Sam Dorsett, who compiled 3,847 yardsfrom 1999 to 2003.
The Dukes scored their lone touchdown of the game with 9:57 to play when Sean Pattersonconnected with Sean Bunevich for a four-yard touchdown pass. The Dukes were successful onthe two-point conversion, as Patterson hit wide receiver Dave Williams in the end zone to helpDuquesne trim its deficit to 27-11.
Robert Morris answered on its next possession, marching 64 yards and using 6:32 off theclock in the fourth quarter before Russ capped the scoring with another six-yard touchdownscamper.
Sinclair finished 10-for-20 passing for 113 yards and a touchdown and rushed six times for 23yards and a pair of scores, while King hauled in four receptions for 65 yards and a score to pacethe receiving corps for Robert Morris.

Calling The Signals - Sophomore Tyler Forbes will become RMU’s third starting quar-terback in as many weeks Saturday when the Colonials square off @ Duquesne. In addi-tion, Forbes will be the third Robert Morris quarterback to make his first career startat Rooney Field, joining junior quarterback Jeff Sinclair and former Colonial RichDemaio (2000-03). Sinclair finished 20-for-36 passing for 219 yards, two touchdownsand two interceptions Oct. 3, 2009, with his 20 completions the most by a true fresh-man making his first collegiate start in a Robert Morris uniform. Demaio, in what washis only career start, finished 33-for-45 passing for 444 yards, three touchdowns andthree interceptions Nov. 15, 2003, establishing single-game school records for comple-tions (33) and passing yards (444).
Filling The Hole - Sophomore defensive lineman Chris Thompkins earned his firstcareer start against Wagner (11/12) in place of the injured Nolan Nearhoof and excelled,establishing a career high with nine tackles. Included in those nine takedowns was ahalf a sack, as he teamed with senior defensive lineman Sam Miller. In 10 games thisseason, Thompkins owns 27 stops, including four and-a-half tackles for losses and twoand-a-half sacks.
Picking Up Steam - Greg Langer has settled in nicely as RMU’s starting placekicker, asthe junior has hit seven straight field goal attempts and 11 of his last 13 in the last eightgames. Langer is tied with Chris Rogers of Sacred Heart and Charlie Leventry ofDuquesne for the Northeast Conference lead in field goals with 11, and thanks to his 37-yard field goal against the Seahawks tied an RMU school record for consecutive fieldgoals made. Former kicker Jeff Carlo (1998-2001) converted seven straight over thecourse of the 1998 and 1999 seasons, while former kicker Michael Walser (2005-07)closed out the 2007 campaign by hitting seven straight field goals.
Hacky Sack - While junior defensive lineman Nolan Nearhoof leads Robert Morris thisseason in sacks with seven and-a-half, a total that ranks second in the NortheastConference, he hasn’t been the only Colonial to put pressure on the quarterback. Infact, Robert Morris enters Saturday’s game @ Duquesne ranked fourth in the league insacks with 20. Amazingly, a total of 10 Colonials have recorded at least half a sack forRMU so far this season. In addition to the seven-and-a-half from Nearhoof, defensivelinemen Sam Miller, Steve Mitchell and Chris Thompkins each own two-and-a-halfsacks.
Hanging Chad - Junior safety Cameron Chadwick has settled into his role as a leader ondefense, and its showed the last five games. Over that span Chadwick owns 51 stops, anaverage of 10.2 per contest. Included in that stretch is a team-high 12 tackles againstBryant (10/22) as well as a career-high 16 tackles @ Albany (10/15). Thanks to his per-formance against the Great Danes, Chadwick became the 17th different Colonial inschool history to accumulate at least 15 tackles in a game. Chadwick enters Saturday’sgame @ Duquesne leading Robert Morris in tackles with 76, an average of 7.6 per con-test that ranks ninth in the Northeast Conference.
First Time for Everything - Junior quarterback Jeff Sinclair made history in RMU’s 45-14 victory over Saint Francis (10/8), becoming the first quarterback in school history toeclipse the 100-yard rushing plateau. Sinclair finished with 110 yards rushing and apair of touchdowns on just five carries, an average of 22.0 yards per rush. Sinclair post-ed touchdown runs of 64 and 22 yards in the second quarter to help the Colonials builda 35-0 halftime lead en route to the victory. Overall, Sinclair is the 12th different play-er in school history to post a 100-yard rushing game.

Joe Walton Stadium (Attendance: 2,237) - Dominique Williams ran for216 yards and four touchdowns as Wagner sent Robert MorrisUniversity to its fifth straight, 38-17.
Williams produced touchdown runs of one, two, five and 56 yards inthe victory for the Seahawks and averaged 6.8 yards per rush. His two-yard touchdown plunge at the 6:41 mark of the first quarter capped a16-play, 80-yard drive to open the game and give Wagner an early 7-0lead. The Seahawks expanded their advantage to 14-0 when Williamshit paydirt from five yards out to cap a six-play, 36-yard drive.
Junior kicker Greg Langer helped RMU get on the board with a 37-yard field goal at the 3:38 mark of the second quarter, but Williams'third touchdown run of the first half, this time for 56 yards, helpedWagner take a 21-3 lead.
Mark Mangion would give the Seahawks a comfortable 24-3 lead athalftime by connecting for a 29-yard field goal as time expired in thesecond quarter.
After a scoreless third quarter, sophomore quarterback Tyler Forbesconnected with senior wide receiver Jamie Cobb for a 38-yard touch-down pass to trim RMU's deficit to 24-10 with 14:05 to play.
Wagner went three-and-out on its next possession, but the Colonialscouldn’t take advantage, as Jeremiah Brown intercepted Forbes at theWagner 35-yard drive to stall a Robert Morris drive.
The Seahawks again went three-and-out, but on the next RMU pos-session Forbes was sacked by C.O. Prime and fumbled. The loose ballwas picked up by defensive lineman Quintin Anderson, who scam-pered 48 yards to the end zone for the touchdown and a 31-10 Wagnerlead.
Two touchdowns were scored in the last six minues, as redshirtfreshman Deontae Howard scored from a yard out with 5:49 remain-ing to trim RMU's deficit to 31-17, and Williams added his fourth touch-down run of the day, this time from a yard out, to settle the score at 38-17.
Wagner finished the day with nine tackles for losses that totaled 34yards, including four sacks, and also forced three RMU turnovers.
Freshman quarterback Matt Layman, making his first collegiatestart, finished 6-for-16 passing for 70 yards before being knocked outin the third quarter. Forbes finished the day under center for theColonials, completing 10 of his 21 passing attempts for 140 yards, atouchdown and an interception.
Last RMU GameA New No. 1 - Senior tight end Shadrae King tied a career high with ninereceptions in a 23-20 victory @ Monmouth (10/1), compiling 104 yards receiv-ing and a pair of touchdowns. In addition to recording his third career 100-yard receiving game, King became the program’s all-time leading receiver. Heenters Saturday’s game @ Duquesne with 143 career catches, a total thateclipsed the record of 112 that was held by former wide receiver TyjuanMassey (2002-05). King also owns 1,683 career receiving yards, which rankssecond all-time at Robert Morris, and 21 touchdown catches, tied for thecareer school record. King enters Saturday’s game against the Dukes rankedfourth in the Northeast Conference in receptions per game (4.90) and ninthin receiving yards (50.9) per contest.
Dr. Dre - Senior tight end Shadrae King led the Robert Morris receiving corpsagainst Wagner (11/12), hauling in eight receptions for 76 yards. It marked the29th straight game dating back to the 2009 campaign that King has recordedat least one reception, extending a school record. King eclipsed the old markof former wide receiver Opio Gary (1998-2000), who closed out his RobertMorris career by posting at least one reception in each of his final 22 games.
Many Happy Returns - Senior Anthony Coleman has been a rock for RobertMorris on special teams throughout his career, as the wide receiver entersSaturday’s game @ Duquesne owning Robert Morris career records for kick-off returns (105) and kickoff return yards (2,304). Thanks to a career-high 175all-purpose yards against Bryant (10/22), Coleman became the sixth player inschool history to eclipse 3,000 career all-purpose yards. He enters Saturday’sgame @ Duquesne with 3,562, which ranks fifth at Robert Morris. Based onhis career average of 82.8 all-purpose yards per game, Coleman is on pace tofinish his career with 3,645 career yards.
Start Me Up - Seniors Anthony Coleman and Brad Rodgers each enterSaturday’s game @ Duquesne as RMU’s active leader in career starting assign-ments with 32. Coleman has started 32 straight at wide receiver, the longestactive streak for consecutive starts, while Rodgers owns 29 straight starts onthe offensive line and 32 overall.
Two Pair - Quarterback Jeff Sinclair tossed three touchdown passes in a 45-14victory over Saint Francis (10/8), including a pair to senior tight end ShadraeKing. Thanks to the three scores through the air from Sinclair against the RedFlash, Robert Morris improved to 10-3 (.769) when he tosses two or moretouchdown passes in a game.
Dynamic Duo - Senior tight end Shadrae King hauled in a 12-yard touchdownpass from junior quarterback Jeff Sinclair in the second quarter againstBryant (10/22), helping him tie the school record for career touchdown recep-tions of 21 that is also held by former wide receiver Tyjuan Massey (2002-05).Over the last three seasons, Sinclair has connected with King for 15 touch-downs, the second highest total between a quarterback-receiver combo inschool history. The only total higher comes from former quarterback DrewGeyer (2002-05) and Massey, who hooked up for 17 touchdowns over theirfour years together on the roster.

The Long and The Short of It - Senior wide receiver Anthony Coleman, thanks to fourseasons as the starter at return specialist for Robert Morris, has put up some impres-sive numbers across the board. In addition to entering Saturday’s game @ Duquesneranked fifth all-time at RMU in career all-purpose yards with 3,562, Coleman has pro-duced 74 plays for the Colonials over the last four years that have been at least 20 yardsor longer. Broke down, 53 of those 74 (71.6%) have come on kickoff returns, 15 (20.3%)have come via receptions and six (8.1%) on punt returns. The 74 plays of 20 yards orlonger by Coleman are the most in school history, eclipsing the 62 former wide receiv-er Tyjuan Massey posted from 2002 to 2005.
Foot Joy - One of the most important aspects that junior Jeff Sinclair brings to thequarterback position at Robert Morris is his versatility. In a 31-24 setback @ CentralConnecticut State (11/5), Sinclair rushed for a 14-yard touchdown in the first quarterthat helped tie the game, 7-7. In 27 career games, Sinclair has already rushed for 14touchdowns. To put that in perspective, prior to Sinclair becoming the starter undercenter at RMU, quarterbacks combined for 16 rushing touchdowns in the first 156games of the program’s history.
New Balance - A total of three Colonials received their first career start against Wagner(11/12), as senior Anthony Caperelli started at outside linebacker, sophomore ChrisThompkins started on the defensive line and freshman Matt Layman got the call atquarterback. Caperelli and Thompkins combined for 11 tackles against the Seahawks,while Layman finished 6-for-16 passing for 70 yards before being knocked out of thegame in the third quarter. The starts for the trio pushed the total of Colonials to earntheir first career collegiate start at Robert Morris this season to 25.
An Important Position - Catching his first career touchdown pass @ Liberty (9/10) wassophomore tight end Vince Mongelluzzo, who hauled in a nine-yard touchdown recep-tion with 10:25 remaining in the fourth quarter for his first career catch. One of themost important positions in head coach Joe Walton’s offense, Mongelluzzo is the 18thdifferent tight end in the 18-year history of the program to post a touchdown catch. Infact, Mongelluzzo is currently one of four tight ends in school history whose only catchis a touchdown, joining junior Tyler Digby and former Colonials Jeremy Wise (2002-05)and Sean McElhinny (2007-10).
Saturday Night Lights - Robert Morris hosted its first night game in the program’s 18-year history as part of the University’s Homecoming festivities Oct. 8, rolling to a 45-14win over in-state rival Saint Francis at Joe Walton Stadium. A total of 4,384 fans packed“The Joe” for the win over the Red Flash, the largest crowd in the seven-year history ofthe facility as well as the sixth official sellout since the venue opened in 2005. Thegame marked just the seventh time Robert Morris played a game with a kickoff after5:00 p.m., with the Colonials owning a record of 2-5 (.286) all-time in night games. Home Sweet Home - Slowly but surely, Robert Morris has learned to protect its hometurf at Joe Walton Stadium. Thanks to a 42-24 win over Central Connecticut State(11/6/10) that clinched a share of the 2010 Northeast Conference championship, RMUstretched its winning streak at “The Joe” to eight games, the longest winning streak atthe facility since opening the stadium in 2005. Despite a 19-13 setback to Dayton (9/3)in the 2011 season opener that snapped the eight-game surge, overall Robert Morrisowns a record of 18-18 (.500) in seven seasons at Joe Walton Stadium.

Making The Grade - Defensive lineman Nolan Nearhoof became the third player in programhistory to be named to the Capital One Academic All-America Team in 2010 when he earnedsecond team accolades. Nearhoof owns a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.87 as abiology major and joined former Colonials Jonathan LeDonne (2001-04) and Ray Gensler(2003-06) to earn the honor. LeDonne, a linebacker, was named to the 2004 ESPN TheMagazine Academic All-America First Team, while Gensler, a defensive lineman, was a two-time honoree, earning second team accolades in 2005 and first team honors in 2006. In ninegames on the 2011 campaign, Nearhoof owns 60 tackles, including seven and-a-half sacks, anda pair of fumble recoveries. He enters Saturday’s game @ Duquesne as RMU’s active leader incareer tackles with 137.
Preseason Honors - A total of five Colonials earned spots on the 2011 All-Northeast ConferencePreseason Team. Junior quarterback Jeff Sinclair, senior center Logan Miles and senior tightend Shadrae King were placed on offense, junior defensive lineman Nolan Nearhoof earned aspot on defense and senior Anthony Coleman was picked as the return specialist on specialteams. In addition, King was named to the 2011 Preseason Football Championship Subdivision(FCS) All-America Second Team by both The Sports Network and Phil Steele and the 2011Preseason FCS Honorable Mention Team by Consensus Draft Services.
Mitchell On The Move - Did any student-athlete have a better year in 2010-11 than SteveMitchell? In the fall of 2010, Mitchell started all 11 games on the defensive line, recording 37tackles in helping Robert Morris claim its sixth NEC regular-season championship and theleague’s inaugural bid to the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) Playoffs. In thespring of 2011 he ignited the RMU outdoor track & field squad to a second-place finish at the2011 NEC Outdoor Track & Field Championships with 133 points, the squad’s highest finishsince winning the 2000 NEC Outdoor Track & Field title with 146.5 points. Mitchell was namedthe 2011 Most Outstanding Field Performer after claiming gold in the hammer throw and silverin the shot put. He posted a toss of 50.83 meters in the hammer and a throw of 16.29 meters inthe shot, establishing a new RMU outdoor school record. To top it off, Mitchell owns a 3.55cumulative grade point average as a management major.
The Streak Continued - The football program helped Robert Morris extend one of its mostimpressive streaks in school history in the fall of 2010. The Colonials returned to the top of theNortheast Conference after a 10-year hiatus with a record of 7-1 (.875) in league play andshared the 2010 regular-season championship with Central Connecticut State. However, byvirtue of a 42-24 victory over the Blue Devils at Joe Walton Stadium (11/6/10), RMU clinched theNEC’s inaugural bid to the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) Playoffs. It markedthe 12th straight season that Robert Morris has sent at least one of its programs to an NCAATournament, dating back to the 1999-2000 campaign. Robert Morris in the 2011 NEC StatsThose Issues Are Secondary - Through the first 10 contests of the 2011 season,a member of the Robert Morris secondary has led the team in tackles in sixgames. Included in that group is senior cornerback Alex Tarr (twice), juniorsafeties Cameron Chadwick (twice) and Eric Lowry and sophomore safetyD.J. Myers. Chadwick and Myers rank first and second for the Colonials intackles so far this season with 76 and 67, respectively, with Chadwick owningthree double-digit takedown games. So far on the 2011 campaign, a total of276 of RMU’s 748 tackles (36.9 percent) so far this season having come fromits secondary.
Rank and File - Robert Morris certainly posted a defining victory when it gar-nered a 30-23 upset win over No. 14/15 Liberty (9/18) at Joe Walton Stadium,but should it really come as a surprise? The victory improved the Colonials toa perfect 2-0 when squaring off with a ranked opponent at home. RMUdefeated fellow Northeast Conference foe Central Connecticut State, 23-17, ina pair of overtimes at Joe Walton Stadium Oct. 14, 2006, for its first win overa ranked opponent. The Blue Devils entered that game ranked No. 19 by TheSports Network, while the Flames occupied the No. 15 spot in TSN’s pollbefore falling to the Colonials. RMU’s loss @ Liberty (9/10) dropped theColonials to 2-2 (.500) all-time when facing off with a ranked opponent, asthe Flames entered the game ranked 24th by The Sports Network. Get To The Chopper - A quick glance at RMU’s record when broken downproves how important it is the Colonials get off to a good start in contests.When Robert Morris is leading at halftime, the program owns an all-timerecord of 85-12 (.876). When trailing at the break, Robert Morris owns a markof 10-58-1 (.152). Even going into halftime tied is beneficial, as the Colonialsown an overall record of 11-8 (.579) in such games.

A Colonial in the NFLHank Fraley, who played on the offensive line for Robert Morris from 1996-1999, has carved a niche for himself in the National Football League (NFL).Signed by the Pittsburgh Steelers to a free agent contract in April 2000, Fraleywas claimed off waivers the following August by the Philadelphia Eagles. Afteran ankle injury to Bubba Miller in the final 2001 preseason game, Fraleystepped up and started at center for Philadelphia the entire season, helpingthe team to the 2002 NFC Championship game. For four straight seasons withFraley starting at center from 2002-05, the Eagles appeared in the NFCChampionship game. In 2005, Fraley became the first RMU football alum toappear in the Super Bowl when he started at center against the New EnglandPatriots in Super Bowl XXXIX. Prior to the start of the 2006 campaign, Fraleywas traded by Philadelphia to Cleveland, where he started all 16 games for theBrowns on the year. Fraley played four seasons with the Browns from 2006 to2009, earning 52 starts in 63 games, before signing as a free agent with the St.Louis Rams March 14, 2010. Entering the 2011 season, which will be his 12thyear in the NFL, Fraley has started 123 of his career 142 games and has alsoearned 10 starts in the postseason. Primarily a center, Fraley has also startedat both guard and tackle throughout his NFL career. Fraley became the secondColonial to have his number retired, joining inaugural running back Tim Hall(1994-95), as Fraley’s No. 75 was enshrined prior to RMU’s game against SacredHeart on Sept. 22, 2001. Fraley became the sixth football inductee into theRobert Morris Athletic Hall of Fame when he was enshrined Oct. 14, 2006.
