SEPT. 21, 2014

CARMEL (2-1) – This, really, is an impressive entry into the rankings. The Rams are forced to play their first three on the road until the new field is ready. To come out of it 2-1 is just outstanding.

NEWBURGH (2-1) – The Goldbacks were impressive against Washingtonville with several big-play scores. Now the question is, will they win their appeal and have Anthony Dubose this week for the biggest game of the year?

WALLKILL (2-1) – Another terrific performance for sophomore quarterback A.J. Dembroski and receiver Nick Gomez. One more easy one (should be, anyway) against Saugerties before the big matchup with Poughkeepsie.

ARLINGTON (2-1) – Rising, and with a bullet. The Admirals have strong back-to-back league road wins with a revived offense, and now come home to take on Clarkstown South on Saturday. Chris Cremins is really taking hold of the quarterback position.

BEACON (3-0) – That was a huge, huge overtime victory over Brewster on Saturday for the Bulldogs. Let’s see if they can stay here, though. Next three are Eastchester (one loss), Cross River (no losses) and Somers (one loss).

HIGHLAND (3-0) – Huskies looked solid again in opening the Section Nine, Class B season with a road win at Red Hook. Now they go back to non-league but it’s not fun – high-scoring Millbrook on Friday night. First team to 40 wins?

LOURDES (3-0) – Quietly, but most assuredly, the Warriors are building a lovely little resume so far with three consecutive road wins to start the season (thanks Section One!), including at Pleasantville on Saturday. OLL home to Edgemont this week.

ROOSEVELT (3-0) – Six, six and six. That’s how many points the Roosevelt defense has given up in each game it has played so far this year. Still need to get those skill guys more involved, but nonetheless impressive. Tough one this week though as they go on the road to play Washingtonville.

MILLBROOK (3-0) – Toughest test of the year for the Blazers coming up at unbeaten Highland. Millbrook will run, and score. Its still the best running team in the area. But can its defense stop the Huskies and quarterback Brandon Mack?

JOHN JAY (2-1) – Don’t do it. Don’t call us, write, email, fax or send smoke signals. There’s no way anybody in their right mind takes Jay out of the No. 1 spot after losing, on the road, in overtime, to a two-time state champ and perennial Section One champ.
