Rev. Ron Iris will lead a video Bible study of
Adam Hamilton’s Half Truths September 7 through October 12 at 7:03 pm in Fellowship Hall! See the September Footprints for chapter titles. Participants can obtain the book from Cokesbury, but it is not required in order to attend class. Per-sons wanting to deepen their practical Christian faith are invited to attend. This six-week class will replace Pastor Dennis’ class, which will resume October 19.

Correction: The photo on the first page of the July Footprints was not of the 2016 Legacy Pennsylvania mission team! I took it from the Legacy Facebook page and it was a 2014 picture. The caption was correct, and did accurately describe the work done by our 2016 Pennsylvania team. See this issue of Footprints for photos of our actual 2016 youth mission teams: Pennsylvania and Benton Harbor! Editor

Mason County Church Women United will hold their Annual Fundraising Salad Buffet Wednesday, August 17 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. The buffet will be at the Seventh-day Adventist Fellowship Hall at 305 N. Lavinia Street, located behind the Sheriff’s Office. The cost is $7.00. You can buy tickets ahead of time from Janelle Schade (843-8131) or at the door. The meal is open to all. Many enjoy visiting with others at this buffet. Janelle Schade, UMCL Rep for Church Women United
~ ~ ~ Rev. Ron Iris is now the West Michigan Conference Statistician. He is using the south office across from the mailboxes in the office suite.
Rev. Laurie Haller, who served our church as As-sociate Pastor 1985-89, was elected a bishop at the North Central Jurisdictional Conference July 14! She is currently serving as Senior Pastor at Birmingham First UMC in the Detroit Conference. You can send congratulations to her at Birmingham First UMC, 1589 W. Maple, Birmingham, MI 48009. She has been appointed to the Iowa Conference, to begin September 1. Our Michigan Area will celebrate her election with an open house for Laurie and her hus-band Gary on Saturday, August 13 from 3:00 to 6:00 pm at the Michigan Area Ministry Center, 1011 Northcrest Road, Lansing. There will be a brief pro-gram at 4:30 pm. More Bits & Pieces on page 8
Congratulations to one of our members, Svea Clayton, who celebrated her 102nd birthday June 27! Svea is the mother of Margie Kruse. She lives at 1100 E. Tinkham #10, and Margie says her mom would welcome belated birthday cards!

Dear Friends, Summer in Ludington certainly gets busy, as you all well know. Through the past few weeks, we have had visitors come to worship, thinking that we might be the Ro-
man Catholic Church! Arnold and the crew of greeters have been most gracious, showing people the facili-ties, and when realizing that they wish to worship at St. Simon’s, they have given directions to that house of worship. (Perhaps we should be sending them a bill for finder’s fees… just joking, of course). The point of including this in my letter is to commend the excellent hospitality shared, even if people do not choose to stay and worship. We are, after all, all part of the same family: the family of God. All that we do should help people feel welcomed, and our greeters (and you know who you are) are doing a fine job! It is my hope and prayer that all who come to celebrate with us on August 7 will find gracious hospitality. Thank you to those who have put forth effort to make this celebration a memorable one. I cannot list you all individually for fear of leaving someone out, but the extra effort put forth is a wonderful means by which we can help people discover what a treasure is here in United Methodist Church of Ludington. In the last two years, I have taken a week out of the summer months to co-dean a young person’s grief camp with Laura Ruhle. Due to health and heat, we have decided to have a multigenerational grief retreat here at the church. It will be a day and a half event in which we shall help families and friends gather tools to use when faced with loss and transition. The retreat will run from Friday, September 16 at 6:00 pm to 9:00 or so, and then resume Saturday September 17, from 8 am to about 5 pm. Snacks and meals will be provid-ed, and it is our hope to keep any registration fees small. We are hoping to have family units, and friends/support groups present. Please contact me for more details if you are interested. If you wish to help, also contact me for dates for training and orientation.
Already the time has come for the SPRC to do their annual evaluation of my work here. I’m most certain they are tired of evaluating me, as they had to do so three times last year. Now that I am in full connec-tion with the conference, they will only have to do so once a year. See, I made their job easier by becoming an Elder! Each year they must identify what I am do-ing well, what could improve, and what type of lead-ership this congregation needs or desires. If you have input to offer, please put it in writing, sign your name (the SPRC will see this, but I will not unless you indi-cate you want me to see this) and put it in the Pastor-Parish mailbox. You could also drop it into the col-lection plate in an envelope if you wish. If you do not sign your name, then I am recommending that the SPRC disregard those comments, good or not so good. Each year this is done in every United Method-ist Church, partially because we are an itinerate sys-tem. Not all churches need the same type of pastor, and not all pastors have the same gifts and graces. If there is something missing, it is important to identify those missing elements so that the church may grow, and that leadership is effective. Finally, as of July 27, I have completed our study on Paul’s letter to Rome. We will continue Wednesday night Bible studies using some video studies about the development of the Bible as we know it, and about the first 2000 years of Christianity. This should lead us into September when Rev. Ron Iris has asked to share a study using Adam Hamilton’s materials. This will begin the same time the catered meals take place. In the meantime, we will continue with our delicious potlucks and conversations that take place while breaking bread together. Come join us; we have lots of room!
Blessings to all,
Pastor Dennis

Pennsylvania Youth Mission Trip June 19-24, 2016
Benton Harbor Youth Mission Trip July 10-16, 2016
Some comments from our youth:
This week I started out working so hard
by pulling out the gym floor. Then at
the end of the week we put on a carni-
val for all the kids. It was a great week
because I got to spend time with the
kids but also did work projects. I feel
that this week was very eventful and
worth every drop of sweat.
After coming on this mission trip this
week, I feel like my mind is more open.
I used to complain about all of the
things I didn’t have, but now I see that
these kids have even less than what I
have, and they can live with it. The kids
were amazing, and I am glad that I
could become close to some. Every-
body worked very hard this week, and
we all accomplished a lot. I will totally
come next year, and I would like to
bring my cousin.
I had a great time this week. It was fun
to see all the kids from last year and a
lot of new kids. It was fun bonding with
the team and the new members and
leaders. The work was tough, but still
fun. All I know is I don’t want to go
home, as the past two years. We came
here as friends and we will leave as
family.

Saturday & Sunday, August 13-14 - UMW Rug Sale at Gold Coast Artisan Fair Monday, August 15, 12:00 pm - Potluck Picnic, election of officers at Jane & Jim Clark’s home
At the August 13-14 Gold Coast Artisan Fair, UMW is once again selling the beautiful woven rugs that our Rug Ladies make. Call Ramona Myers (231-425-4408) to sign up for a time slot selling rugs. There are always two ladies working at a time so don't wor-ry if you are doing this for the first time. It is a joy to work since these beautiful rugs practically sell themselves. Also, come and shop and bring your friends! All ladies of the church are invited to come and en-joy the annual UMW Potluck Picnic. Jane Clark has once again graciously invited us to her home at noon on Monday, August 15. Don't miss the delicious food and wonderful fellowship. We also have a short business meeting for election of officers. If you need directions to Jane's home, Jane can provide those. Call Karen Genson (843-2482) if you would like to arrange to ride with someone. No RSVP necessary--just come and enjoy! The UMW Bazaar date (October 29) is approaching fast. I hope you are making items that you plan to donate for sale. We are looking for your ideas for items that the ladies can make that will sell well. We would like to have a couple workshop days to work together on making items. Call Karen Genson (843-2482) if you have project ideas or would like to help make items at a work day. Handmade Christmas ornaments were one item mentioned as a possibility-- any ideas out there for Christmas ornaments or other items?
United Methodist Women To our dear church family, Thank you for your constant prayers, cards, encour-agement and support for Stan and myself these past few months. The depths of blessings we have experienced from our church family have been overwhelming. We pray we can pass all these blessings we have received to so many others in their time of need. Thank you, Heaven-ly Father, for our church family. Stan & Sheila McCallum Relay for Life is finished, midst a storm that ended things early. You helped raise $9232 at last count. You also bought 267 luminaria that circled the track. Not a misprint, folks. We were responsible for a large part of the circle of light that graced Oriole Field during the evening hours. Our heartfelt thanks to everyone who could walk, our many visitors, those who made donations, and those who shared their experiences while fighting cancer. It truly was a time of caring and coming together. Still smiling, Vi DeMeester, Jane Mengot, Cris Wegener Thank you to all who did so much to make the an-
nual Let Freedom Ring concerts successful! This is such an important and worthwhile event every year to help our local veterans, and we deeply appreciate all the hard work, kind gestures, singers and instru-mentalists, and especially the use of this gorgeous edifice! We are truly thankful for everything you did!!!! With deep gratitude, Becky Sopha & Lew Wilson Dear UMC Friends, Thank you so much for your thoughts, prayers, and cards during and after my mom and dad's passing within 3 days of each other in June. Even though they only came to Ludington two years ago to reside at Ludington Woods, you have been praying for them, and supporting me through their end of life journey. Thanks to Laurie and Pastor Dennis for phone conversations, and Pastor Norm Letsinger for the visit while Dennis was at Conference. It is a great joy and comfort to be a part of such a loving and caring church family! Carol and Drew Pehrson and Family More Thanks on page 8

Women’s Fall Bible Study will begin Thursday, September 8 at 10:00 am. We will continue to meet in Fellowship Hall. Our study for the fall is The Twelve Disciples, a 10 week Life Guide Study, by Douglas Connelly. The goal of this study is to focus on each man and how each one was changed be-cause of his association with Jesus. When Jesus sent these men into the world with the good news of God’s grace and forgiveness, they spoke with the authority of Jesus himself. It was the writings of the apostles and their close associates that laid the foun-dation of the church. We can expect to grow as dis-ciples as we study how Jesus made disciples, and we can expect to hear a new call in our lives to follow Christ with a whole heart. Books will be available at our first meeting. For more information, you may call Lynne Gohn at 843-4746. Sign up in the church office.

Sally Reed thanks Jim Clark for providing all the photos for the 150th Anniversary Tree in Fellowship Hall! Wally Brown thanks Ted Radtke and Dennis Tabor for helping get the front projector going again. He appreciates all your hard work! Thank you to all who helped with our July 15 Ameri-can Red Cross Blood Drive: Blood donors, cookie donors, setup and takedown people, Canteen Table and Registration Table staff, and donor recruiter. You brought in 33 units of blood. Thank you! Our next blood drive will be Friday, September 16, from 12:00 to 6:00 pm. The pavilion has been cleaned and the ceiling tiles have been replaced thanks to the volunteer help of Ed McCumber, Denny Tabor, Ted Radtke, Kirk My-ers, Derik Heimerdinger and Max Schipper. This was very labor intensive work and much appreciated. The church no longer likes raccoons!
JUNE MISSION TRIP TO HAITI
Recently 11 people returned from a 10-day mission trip to Haiti. They included Pastor Norm Letsinger and Dave Hamman from our church and college student Chase Rohrer from St. Paul United Method-ist Church. While there, they worked at the Papillon Orphanage. We installed windows, doors, and tile floor in the new boys’ building. We also built sever-al bunk beds, a bed for the caretaker, and a storage and shelving unit. The team painted the inside and outside of the boys’ building and installed a solar light system for that building. We conducted a 5-day afternoon Bible School for about 50 children. The pastor from Hartford UMC, who was a member of the mission team, conducted a church service at the orphanage. Norm stayed with a pastor at a dif-ferent location and preached there. He taught men how to use the treadle wood lathe which he made in the states and shipped to Haiti. He also worked for two days with the rest of the team, building bunk beds and installing doors. Ellamae McDonald do-nated 30 New Testament Bibles in Creole and these were distributed to the orphans. UMC Pillowcase Ministry made pillowcases for 10 orphan boys. We appreciate all the prayers and support from the UMC congregation. Dave Hamman, Mission Team Leader President, Papillon Orphanage From Allan Carlson, Evangelism Chairperson: Our next time to serve the food for the Community Table at Commu-nity Church is from 4:30 to 6:00 pm on Tuesday, August 2. If you are interested in helping to prepare or serve this meal, please contact Jean Burtch at 843-8306 or Allan Carlson at 843-7071. Thanks in advance for your willingness to help with this important service to the community.

Ongoing Prayer Concerns
PRAYER REQUEST CARDS are located in the pews, the narthex and the Volunteer’s Desk. Requests are prayed over on Tuesday mornings and are kept confidential. They are prayed over for 30 days unless updated for a longer period of time. All prayer re-quests are kept in the office. If you have an urgent prayer request, you may activate the prayer chains by calling the church office at 843-8340. If the church office is closed, you may call either Lynne Gohn (843-4746) or Anne Estle (843-6263).
