“WE WANT TO MANUFACTURE STEEL BECAUSE WE HAVE THE KNOW-HOW AND BECAUSE IT IS A MATERIAL OF THE FUTURE“ 5

2010 was a challenging year for busi-ness, characterized in high volatility in the steel market, but in spite of that we performed well. Relying on one of our key strengths, flexibility in production from product to product depending on

the changing market needs, we were able to generate a moderate profit. Im-portantly, in spite of some initial prob-lems we also resumed steady deliveries of hot metal to Evraz Vítkovice Steel.

We continued to focus on Health and Safety and extended our thorough attention to contractors as the safety performance of external employees was substantially lagging behind that of our own workers. We want each and every person working with the Company, be it our own employee or contractor’s, to come back home without any accidents.

We also made good progress in main-tenance: we spent at least double the amount of 2009 to improve the reli-ability of our equipment. And we worked hard on investments so that all of them could be completed in or even ahead of time. The reason being that with each completed investment we are reduc-

ing our environmental footprint, which continues to be our priority. The biggest environmental investment in the coun-try, dedusting of the Sinter Plant North, which started in February 2010 and will be commissioned in September 2011 (i.e. three months ahead of schedule), will reduce particulate emissions from the Sinter Plant by 70 per cent, to the best available technique level.

We continued open communication about our activities and plans with all segments of the society to foster un-derstanding between the Company and its stakeholders. And throughout the year we led a constructive dialogue with the Trade Union, discussing important changes to come and decisions to be made, and cooperating in key areas. To my pleasure, there was a huge in-volvement of employees and the Senior Management in community support

initiatives thanks to which we have become an example to other companies. It is the Company’s as well as my own conviction that companies like ours cannot keep away from the community in which they operate. They should not only provide the environment for but also support to local activities and help solve some of the problems the com-munity is facing.

One of our projects through which we support the local community is the Min-igrants, bringing together three groups: our employees, NGOs, and people in need of some form of help. Through our employees engaged with certain NGOs we were able to support thousands of people. For us, though, the Minigrants involve more than just allocating money to certain projects. Each of the projects has its patron – a member of the Senior Management, who personally monitors

message from the CEO

6MESSAGE FROM THE CEO

the progress and success of the respec-tive project. This concept was even recognised as the benchmark within the Group and Minigrants have been taken up by other units all over the world.

We are proud to be associated with one of the most prominent music festivals in Europe, the Colours of Ostrava, as it brings enjoyment and happiness to tens of thousands of people. Again, we did not limit ourselves to only sponsoring the event. We enabled visitors to the festival to try and “Dance for Life” and win some money for the Ostrava Blood Centre.

The support of education is our invest-ment into the future of the Company as well as the Region. We know we will need new experts so we are helping ed-ucational institutions through sponsor-ship, practical tuition on the Company

premises, and consultancy in students’ theses to make the studies of technical fields attractive for young talents and foster good technicians.

I am aware that without good workers the Company would not be able to prosper. To me the Ostrava team it is the best team I have ever worked with during my 36 years in the steel indus-try. We keep our employees motivated not only through a good salary and employee benefits, but also by means of organizing various employee events and activities. Though we have many communication channels, I still believe in personal touch, so each of such occasions gave me the opportunity to meet with our employees and thank them for their outstanding perfor-mance and loyalty. Dear readers, the following pages will take you through our CR activities and achievements. For us Corporate Responsibility is not about compliance. It is the essence of this Company. Our efforts towards employees were crowned by the awards of the Best Employer of the Region and the Third

Best Employer in the Czech Republic. The greatest reward for our endeav-

ours will be when we are considered a responsible partner and good corpo-rate neighbour by the local communi-ties, too.

Thank you for your interest,Augustine Kochuparampil

“Health and safety at work is our number one prior-ity. We are among the top steelmakers when it comes to safety at work. We know that even though we have already made a great progress, we still have a long way to go.” Jiří Michálek, Chief Health and Safety Officer

JOURNEY TO ZERO Our goal is to have zero serious or fatal injuries and to prevent or minimize other occupational injuries. That is why we are continuing in our Journey to Zero . We are introducing corporate safety standards which are tougher than the Czech legisla-tion. We are using our experience from previous years, as well as new tools. For example, we have introduced Golden Rules of Safety and have taken measures to pre-vent repeating injuries. We are a holder of valid OHSAS 18001 certification, we have set rules for the work by contractors and have introduced the 5S method, etc.

OUR CERTIFICATES AND AWARDSWe are a holder of the Safe Enterprise award and we keep meeting its conditions. In October 2010, we successfully renewed our OHSAS 18001 Health and Safety Man-agement System certificate. We are manag-ing our risks and improving our performance in this area. We took part in the European Campaign on Safe Maintenance and were awarded for our active participation in the national round of the competition.

OUR 10 GOLDEN RULES OF SAFETY

1. I will come to work in a ‘fit and able‘ condition .2. I will use fall protection or preventive equipment whenever and wherever

required according to our standards.3. I will follow the lockout/isolation procedure when working on equipment.4. I will follow the confined space entry procedure before entering, as well as

during the full duration of the task.5. I will respect all the rules of load handling at all times and never stand under a

suspended load.6. I will respect all the traffic rules.7. I will respect rail priority and stay out of the close clearance area without

proper precautions being taken .8. I will respect the rules for entering and working in hazardous gas areas.9. I will not disable safety devices.10. I will respect all the Health and Safety basic rules, standards and signals and I

will wear the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

HEALTH AND SAFETY COMMITTEEA working group composed of Trade Union representatives and Top Management of the Company meets to map out risk-prone areas where accidents may occur or the health of employees may be endangered. 15 Committee meetings took place in 2010.

SHARED vIGILANCE Our goal is zero injuries. To achieve that, we explain to all of our employees that many injuries may be avoided. Our motto is: Do not just watch out for your own safety, but also for the safety of others. This is an atti-tude we want everyone to identify with, so that we can succeed in our Journey to Zero.

NEAR MISSESNear misses are events which did not end in accidents only thanks to favourable cir-cumstances. To prevent accidents, we have begun recording and evaluating near misses. In 2010 we introduced a system for online reporting of near misses and minor injuries.Number of near misses, lost time injuries and injuries without lost time in 2010

BABY SENSORSWe support projects aimed at eliminating health risks. On the occasion of the Health and Safety Day, we donated new breathing monitors for newborns to three hospitals in the Region.

HEALTH WEEkFor the first time, we organized Health Week to acquaint our employees with the principles of a healthy lifestyle. The programme included educational films and lectures on a healthy lifestyle, the opportunity to have wholesome food in the canteen, rehabilitation exercises and preventive medical checkups right at the workplace.

5S METHODIn 2010 we implemented the 5S Method at eight pilot locations. The 5S Method is an educational tool for improving organisation and working more efficiently, increasing safety and bringing a higher quality to the working environment. By the end of the year, the method had been introduced at 24 workplaces and the plan for 2011 is to add a minimum of 22 further locations.

WE REWARD OUR EMPLOYEESThe foundation stone of success is a satisfied, motivated, loyal employee. To reach this goal, we make use of a number of social benefits, in addition to wages. We spent a total of CZK 80.67 million in 2010 on employee benefits, an average of CZK 16,873 per employee.

WE ARE CONTINUALLY IMPROvINGWe have begun a new motivational programme for the Continuous Improvement (CI). We registered 194 new ideas in 2010, five times what we did in 2009. Together, these ideas should bring the Company savings of CZK 34 million every year. Proposals for improvement which were implemented and evaluated in 2010 have already saved around CZK 22 million, with CZK 500,000 in motivational payments going to the people who came up with the ideas.

In addition to these modest ideas, we also support the so-called CI Initiatives – steps which lead to improvements primarily in technological parameters compared to the preceding year. These have allowed us to achieve unbelievable improvements and savings of CZK 250 million.

We have been chosen the best employer in the Region and the third-best in the Czech Republic In May of 2010, we obtained the Employ-er of the Region award. Only one month later, we achieved success on the national scale, when we were selected the third-best employer in the Czech Republic. Our success in such a presti-gious competition is an important signal that our Company is going in the right direction when it comes to caring for its employees. We are ca-pable of offering them good working conditions and helping them develop their skills and long-term prospects.

TRAINEE POOL We have initiated a new annual programme for secondary school and university graduates in technical disciplines which, in addition to professional practice in the field, allows them to acquaint themselves with other facilities, both in Ostrava and within ArcelorMittal around the world. In 2010, a total of 24 graduates enrolled in the programme. The goal of the programme is primarily to allow new, young employees to gain a global grasp of the Company and use this knowledge to find the optimum position for their future career at ArcelorMittal.

LEADERSHIP More than 1,450 employees went through various types of managerial training courses in 2010. Training was attended by top management and middle management, foremen and shift leaders. We have prepared a targeted Leadership Academy project whose goal is to develop key managers.

STEEL ACADEMYWe have begun the unique Steel Academy project in conjunction with the Technical University of Ostrava. It is closely tied to professional seminars and workshops focused on steelmaking and it is something we offer both to our employees and to teachers at vocational schools in the Region. We also opened a law academy in 2010, designed to acquaint all management employees with useful information for their professions. Did you know...

BEST EMPLOYEES We appreciate our employees and regularly reward them for their efforts. We select the best employees and best employees of the year, provide them with a financial reward and conduct a meeting between them and the representatives of the Top Management, where they can talk about anything that interests them. 115 employ-ees received awards in 2010, receiving CZK 735,000 total. We also honour long-time employees and reward them in a similar manner. These are employees who have been with us for 20, 25, 30, 35 or 40 years. 749 of our employees received these awards in 2010, with the total cost of the programme equal to CZK 2,350,000.

EMPLOYEE SPORTING EvENTSIn 2010, for the third time, we put together a day full of sports, games and contests for our employees and their children. 13 teams of steelworkers took part in morning competitions in football, tennis and many other sports. In the afternoon, it was the children‘s turn. Taking part with them were kids from the Special Elementary School for Disabled Children in Ostrava-Marianske Hory. They had a chance to try jumping boots, bungee running, wall climbing and many other activities. Not even the bad weather could spoil their fun. In a single day, nearly 2000 people took part in spor-ting tournaments and contests for children.

18INVESTING IN OUR pEOpLE

STEELWORkERS IN GLOBAL COMPETITIONSOur employee Jiri Cech took part in a very challenging cross-country skiing event. The Arctic Circle Race in Greenland has been held since 1997. In 2010, a single participant was invited from the Czech Republic. Jiri Cech completed 160 km under the most severe arctic conditions in 13 hours, 21 minutes, ending up unbeliev-ably in 16th place. We are also pleased to report the success of another of our employees, Stanislav Loska, who took 13th place in the slalom at the Paralympic Games in Vancouver. It was Loska‘s fifth Paralympics.

THANk YOU, WOMENEvery sixth employee is female. In 2010, there were almost 1000 women work-ing for us. They do not just take care of “light” work positions in administration, warehouses and laboratories. We need them for our most challenging operations. We very much appreciate their work and that is why, as a token of appreciation, we present each of them with a gift for the International Day of Women. We approach it in a way totally different from past cel-ebrations of the holiday. We just want to say it is worth acknowledging that women work both in the workplace and at home.

GIFTS FROM ST. NICHOLAS We remember our employees‘ children and regularly give them gifts for St. Nich-

olas Day. 1100 or more employees‘ chil-dren celebrated St. Nicholas day together at the Cinestar Multicinema in Ostrava in 2010. They filled six salons in all, with St.

Nicholas and his angels and devils bringing lots of gifts to each salon. The children enjoyed their gifts and afterwards, saw one of four fairytales of their choice.

“WE WANT TO MANUFACTURE STEEL BECAUSE WE HAVE THE KNOW-HOW AND BECAUSE IT IS A MATERIAL OF THE FUTURE“ 19

I will not offer any numbers, highlight the collective labour agreement, the wages or social security for employees we have agreed, because these things are pretty much given. I feel the need to mention something else. That is the fact that the col-lective labour agreement and other benefits are the result of a functional partnership and social dialogue. The unions note and feel positive about the current open commu-nication as a basic attribute of the Com-pany culture and social reconciliation. The importance of this is something that both the Company and employee representatives are well aware of. It has contributed to the Company‘s recognition as the best employer in the Region. The level at which the bar is currently set is also an obligation we need to cultivate and appreciate. We have one com-petitive advantage over the rest of the pack.

That is the person of our CEO, Augustine Kochuparampil. It is chiefly his doing that our Company is an island of stability and a guarantee of fair dealing. What to add in conclusion? Just the fact that the Unions have patiently awaited the final approval of new modernisation and environmental investment projects whose implementation will guarantee further dec-ades of good prospects and social security for our employees. We have proved over the last few years that the construction of modern, environmentally-friendly facilities is something our Company definitely deserves.

Jaroslav Janek, Member of Trade Union OS KOVO at ArcelorMittal Ostrava a. s., and Chairman of Trade Union OS KOVO-AService

Open communication is the basis of a functioning partnership After the crisis year of 2009, 2010 was also a test of our mettle. We came out of it proving that ArcelorMittal Ost-rava is built on a strong, viable foundation.

transparent governance

21TRANSpARENT GOVERNANCE

“Our goal is to produce steel in a sustainable manner. That means minimizing the impact of our activities on the environment in which we operate, and continuing to reduce the quantity of pollutants emitted into the atmosphere. To achieve this goal, we have been developing the best available technique. As the biggest source of dust is the Sinter Plant, we are directing our key environmental invest-ment to this area.”

Petr Baranek, Chief Green Officer

investments in the environment in 2010:

CZk 374.039 million

PROTECTING THE ATMOSPHEREOur activities are governed by integrated permits issued by the Regional Authority, with which we comply in all areas. Using the best available technologies, we strive to further reduce our environmental footprint.

OUR MOST IMPORTANT AIR PROTECTION PROJECT: DEDUSTING Cutting-edge bag filters are due to reduce dust emissions from the Sinter Plant by more than 70% In February 2010, we started the con-struction of a dedusting facility for the iron ore sintering operation, the Sin-ter Plant. The bag filters that we have been installing are extremely efficient. Four chambers will be cleaning the flue gases from each belt and the dust will be trapped by a fabric whose total area is 44,000 m². Steel piping designed for the passage of flue gases will be equipped with sound dampers.

CONTINUOUSLY TRYING TO REDUCE DUST EMISSIONSSince the privatisation of 2003 we have invested more than CZK 2.5 billion in environmental projects. These projects have helped us reduce our particulate emissions over the last few years. The bag filters that are being installed at the Sinter Plant will enable us to further reduce the particulate emissions by 200 tonnes annually.

WHAT ARE THE FILTERS GOOD FOR? The Sinter Plant produces sinter – a component of the blast furnace charge used for the manufacture of hot metal. The production of sinter generates flue gases containing dust particles. These must be removed from flue gases, which is done by electro-static precipitators. Bag filters are still a more efficient technology in cleaning flue gases. Passing through the fabric, the flue gases with a minimum content of dust particles are evacuated into the chimney. The manufacturer of the bag filters guarantees trouble-free reduction of dust emissions to less than 20 mg/m³.

STEEL SHOP ROOFThe repair of the roof of the Steel Shop continued into its third phase in 2010. The repair is necessary to pre-vent the escape of indirect (fugitive) dust emissions and the red smoke from the halls.

A free Green Line, 800 100 648, was set up in 2008 to facilitate communication with citizens.

EVERYTHING YOU ALWAYS WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT THE FILTERS BUT WERE AFRAID TO ASK: TECHNICAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE DEDUSTING FACILITY

• The facility will be built on an area of approximately 60 x 60 metres and will be 22 m high, with an 80 metre chimney

• Total area of the bag filters is 44,000 m², which is equal to seven football fields

• flue gases will pass through a steel piping of 3.9 metres in diameter

• built-in to the piping are sound dampers to dampen the sound produced by the flue gases passing through the exhauster. The system has an area of 4.5 x 4.5 metres and a length of 6.5 metres and is equipped with inner lamellas to dampen noise.

ISO 14001 CERTIFICATIONThe basis for all our decision-making re-garding the environment is the applicable laws and directives of the Czech Repub-lic and the European Union. In addition, we comply with the rules given by the internationally accepted ISO 14001 envi-ronmental management system standard, the compliance with which is regularly checked by independent audits. All our manufacturing facilities have been certi-fied to ISO 14001.

CLEANING THE COMPANY PREMISESIn 2010 we collected more than 1,650 tonnes of street dirt.

SPRING CLEANING IN SURROUNDING DISTRICTSThe city districts of Slezka Ostrava, Ostrava-Radvanice and Bartovice did their spring cleaning using a cleaning vehicle called Myval (Czech name for raccoon) we donated to them in 2009. The Myval is very useful. It is not only good at getting

rid of street dirt, but it was also of as-sistance after floods.

GREENHOUSE GASES – CO2 EMISSIONS The emission of CO2 into the atmosphere is a global problem. In 2010, the manu-facture of 1 tonne of steel entailed the emission of 1.57 tonnes of CO2. One way to reduce CO2 emissions is to decrease the energy intensity of the manufacturing process. In 2010 we started working on the implementation of the energy man-agement systems under EN 16001:2009 and on their incorporation into our inte-grated management system by the end of 2011.

Did you know…• Dedusting of the Sinter Plant is

the most important environmental

project, worth CZK 1 billion.

• The area of the bag filters that

will separate dust from flue gases is

44 000 m2.

• 1,650 tonnes of dust was

collected on the Company

premises.

NOISE BARRIERS SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCE NOISEA total of four barriers made out of dual-sided acoustic absorption panels separate the marshalling yard from the residential zone in Bartovice. Here trains are taken over from Czech Railways, marshalled and transferred to the ArcelorMittal Ostrava siding. Thanks to this investment, we have been able to markedly reduce noise levels in the residential zone.“This route is used for almost all cargo coming to the Company: materials and raw materials, spare parts as well as empty wagons. As the residential area is so close, it was important for us to reduce the noise level,” explains Chief Green Officer Petr Baranek.

STEELWORkERS PLANTED 608 NEW TREES IN JUNE A total of 608 new trees were planted in June, 2010 by our employees and their families. The greatest number of trees was planted to celebrate the Day of the Envi-ronment, when we invited our employees to show their families where they work. At the same time, we gave them the oppor-tunity to plant “their own” tree near the plant. Six hundred fir trees were planted around the marshalling yard in Bartovice. Other trees, this time deciduous trees, were planted by the Senior Manag-ers outside the Headquarters building in Kuncice. We will continue such activities. “Our attempt to better the life in our Region remains a priority for us even in an economically difficult period,” adds Chief Green Officer Petr Baranek.

CLEANING ALL OUR WASTEWATER Equipment to neutralize wastewater using carbon dioxide has been put into operation in the Lucina wastewater treatment plant. This technology has replaced the ferric sulphate, which had previously been used. According to our estimates, this will redu-ce the amount of dissolved substances in the wastewater discharged by more than 900 tonnes annually.

TAPPING AND STORAGE OF TARIn May 2010 we put into operation equipment for the tapping and storage of brown coal generator tar in Plant 12. It is a modern technology that captures and eliminates volatile organic compounds with greater than 99% efficiency during the handling of brown coal generator tar.

ZERMANICE FEEDERIn December 2010 the reconstruction of the pipeline of the Zermanice feeder was completed. The repair of the right pipeline is continuing in 2011. The feeder supplies surface water to ArcelorMittal Ostrava from the Zermanice dam, built in the 1950s for industrial purposes. The feeder is 12 km long.

WASTESteel is an ideal product – it is 100% recyclable. Recycling steel requires far less energy than its original manufacture.

Did you know...• in 2010 we processed 783,346

tonnes of iron scrap (including

ingots and cast iron), which

represents 33.5% of the tandem

furnace charge.

26MANUFACTURING SUSTAINABLE STEEL

WASTE HANDLINGWe are making a long-term effort to maximise recycling of our wastes and to avoid producing them in the first place. We are looking for opportunities to recycle the waste produced. Some bulk waste is certified as products and is mainly used in construction.

Gas treatment sludge – is produced during wet cleaning of flue gases from tandem furnaces of the Steel Shop and blast furnaces. In 2010 8,408 tonnes of this sludge was produced in the manufac-ture of steel and hot metal. It is primarily used for the reclamation of land.

Blast furnace slag – is used for the manufacture of artificial aggregates and granulate. We manufacture approximately 306,703 tonnes of granulate and 268,890 tonnes of aggregates each year.

Steel slag – in 2010 we supplied 93,614 tonnes of processed steel slag to external companies.

Industrial wastewater treatment sludge – 6,199 tonnes was given over to an external company for further use.

Waste sand – is produced during the manufacture of foundry castings and is used further in construction. 5,455 tonnes was given over for further use in 2010.

Lining and refractory materials – are used refractory lining and walling materi-als replaced during repairs of manufac-turing equipment. In 2010 we produced 56,874 tonnes of this material. Of this, roughly 10% was recycled and reused in repairs of metallurgical facilities. The re-maining quantity is used in construction.

We want to be an integral part of our Region and a good, responsible neigh-bour people appreciate. Our goal is for our presence in the Region to be of ben-efit for all stakeholders, i.e. not only our employees and their families, but also our business partners, contractors, sur-rounding municipalities and associations, the Region and the Czech Republic as a whole. We want to continue maximising the benefit that our operation brings to the Group, at the same time minimising its adverse consequences.

No company is built entirely around economic relation-ships. It also influences the surrounding area, the environ-ment, the local community, the social situation of its em-ployees, etc. And its environs markedly influence the suc-cess of the company, as well.

SUPPORTING EDUCATIONOne of the areas we traditionally provide assistance for is education. We think of supporting schools not as a donation but rather an investment in the future. We are happy to be able to support the develo-pment of students in technical disciplines throughout the Region. We offer schools the chance to work together with us on interes-ting projects aimed at supporting technical education. We set up attractive contests for students, provide them with the opportuni-ty to take part in scholarship programmes, accept many students in internships and on-the-job practice programmes and, during summer holidays, for part-time work in our facilities. We also organized an open house week for eighth and ninth graders in primary schools, which was very successful. Our experts devote themselves year-round to university students, acting as consultants in bachelor, master and doctoral programmes

and managing practical fieldwork directly on-site at the Company. We also take part in the Kariera+ career fair for university students.

COMPETITION FOR PRIMARY SCHOOL PUPILSFor eighth and ninth graders we organized a contest whose topic was the steelmaking and its future. The goal was to create a product or artwork which relates to ste-elmaking. We gave an interactive board to the winning school. The creators of the two next-best works received a financial contri-bution for instructional aids for their schools. The selection of the winning works was done by our employees.

UP-TO-DATE SCHOOL EQUIPMENTLast year we helped fulfil the dreams of se-veral primary schools in the Region by giving them an interactive board and new computer

facilities. This will allow the children to study using the most up-to-date equipment. The equipment will also allow students with lear-ning disabilities to become more involved. SUPPORTING TECHNICAL EDUCATIONWe realize how important it is in this Region to develop secondary school and university programmes oriented towards steelmaking and the engineering disciplines. For this rea-son we also supported secondary technical schools in the Region in 2010.In 2010 we became the chief initiator behind the new discipline of Cokemaking, to be offered by the Frydek-Mistek Secondary Technical School, the only such programme in the Czech Republic.

CONTRIBUTING TO THE DEvELOPMENT OF SCIENCE AND RESEARCHWe also support the development of science and research. The Technical University of Ostrava received new funding from us for the development of science and research. We realize how important it is in this Region to develop secondary school and university programmes oriented towards steelmaking and the engineering disciplines. And, of course, it is also essential for all industry in this Region that the technically-oriented university has adequate funding for the development of science and research.

Health is a basic right for every human being. For us at ArcelorMittal Ostrava, it is a number one priority. That is why we support pro-jects aimed at eliminating health risks.

We have donated breathing monitors for newborns to three hospitals in our Region. We presented the Czech Red Cross with adjustable stretcher, which is a part of the equipment inside the new Czech Red Cross ambulance, one-of-a-kind in the Moravian-Silesian Region.

We supported the worldwide initiative against AIDS organized by Indian cyclist Somen Debnath, who organized lectures on the HIV threat during his trip around the world on a touring bike.

We are a long-term supporter of volunta-ry blood donors and work together with the Blood Centre of the Ostrava-Poruba Teaching Hospital. Our employees make up the largest active blood donor base in Ostrava (856 active donors).

Did you know...• in 2010 we donated CZK 4,900,000 to schools

• 53 pupils were included in our scholarship programmes, receiving

CZK 1,299,500 in total from us

• Professional practical training for students – 88 students in 2009/2010,

60 students in 2010/2011 (school years)

• Practical experience for secondary school and university students –

30 secondary school and 15 university interns

• Our experts advised on and directed 67 bachelor and master theses.

• 23 graduates were offered jobs (15 secondary school and 8 university

graduates)

FOR CHILDREN AND YOUTHOne of the chief points in our regional programme of assistance is support-ing a better life for children and young people. Children at four kindergartens in the Ostrava-Jih district were able to move into new playhouses on their school playgrounds, thanks to our help. Besides the wooden houses, the children also got wooden towers to build with. They are thus able to get a head start develop-ing their creativity and fantasy, as well as their sense of precision.

In 2010 we organized Health and Safety Day for students in Ostrava-Radvanice, supported Vratimov majorettes, young hockey players from Havirov and an inter-national girls‘ volleyball tournament.

EUROPEAN DAYS OF PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIESCorporate responsibility projects enjoy

a prominent place in our Company. We attempt to support those who need it, not only with money, but in other ways, as well. That is how we became involved in the European Days of People with Dis-abilities project – we wanted to support an event which helps the people who are being helped by our Company as well as employees. The 18th European Days of People with Disabilities in 2010, which took place at the beginning of October in Ostrava, was aimed at cooperating and exchanging experience with both Czech and foreign specialists in helping people with disabilities and integrating disabled people into society.

EMERGENCY ASSISTANCEWe attempt to offer instantaneous as-sistance for people living in areas hit by emergencies. Immediately after news of the flood impact reached us, we came with assistance for the affected areas. Our

employees also got involved in collections and volunteer work.

THE DOLL WHO HELPSFor more than 10 years we have been working together with the Kiwanis Club to help ill and abandoned children. The chief project involves Kiwanis ragdolls, made by prisoners in the Ostrava Prison. These dolls help make children‘s stays in the hospital more pleasant. In 2010 we helped to publish the My Kiwanis Doll book. The book is a collection of fairy tales about the doll and the authors of the individual stories are children in Ostrava hospitals as well as our employees‘ children.

Every year the children‘s wards of hos-pitals in the Moravian-Silesian Region receive almost 11,000 Kiwanis dolls.

We support the sporting, cultural and social life of our Region. With our help, cultural projects such as, e.g. Day for the Slezska Ostrava district, the Leto!!! Festival and Colours of Ostrava music festival were held in 2010. Over a long period we have collaborated with the Janacek Con-servatoire and have also supported the Janacek Philharmonic.

culture

“WE WANT TO MANUFACTURE STEEL BECAUSE WE HAVE THE KNOW-HOW AND BECAUSE IT IS A MATERIAL OF THE FUTURE“ 33

Our support is not just about financial gifts. We have also been able to find other ways to help, thanks primarily to the involvement of our employees.

COMPANY vOLUNTEERINGVolunteering is a tradition at our Company. We have several opportunities for employees to get involved in helping those who need it. We want to be a good, responsible neighbour in the Region in which we operate and to build a good relationship between the Company, our employees and the local communities. Company volunteering is one way to achieve that.

DECEMBER 5 – INTERNATIONAL vOLUNTEER DAYSince 2008 we have regularly offered our employees the chance to help selected non-profit organisations during the workday. This „Volunteer Day“ is fully paid. In 2010 156 employees volunteered and lent a helping hand to work with 29 non-profit organisations.

We are happy to see volunteering meet with such immense enthusiasm among our employees. “This time, we have tried to associate volunteering with our Minigrant programme. Many of our employees

took advantage of the opportunity to file applications for minigrants on behalf of the non-profit organisation they are engaged with. Out of the total of 29 non-profit organisations, 20 were registered for minigrants by the employees themselves,“ Monika Pencikova, head of the Corporate Responsibility and Social Services Department, explains about the new twist on volunteering.

“I am happy our employees took advantage of the opportunity to get involved in the event, in which a small help can produce big results. That is why the Company Management continues to support and enables this useful activity on the part of employees,” says CEO Augustine Kochuparampil.

“It is a good thing when a person can be of help somewhere. We see the work we have done and we have a good feeling about it. I am happy the Company offers such an activity,” adds Stanislav Cocek of ArcelorMittal Ostrava.“Today volunteering has become an

integral part of the functioning of beneficiary society Zebrik. Not just because of the solidarity and support that is provided, but also because the work of volunteers from ArcelorMittal is actually visible,” notes Richard Gazda, Chairman of the Administrative Board of Zebrik.

SHELTERED WORkSHOPS’ MARkETSThe products made by clients of sheltered workshops in Ostrava and its surroundings may be purchased by our employees directly on the Company premises. Christmas and Easter

markets are very successful with our employees and successful for the sheltered workshops, as well. In addition to the selection of little gifts, there is a pleasant atmosphere that comes from being able to share the holiday atmosphere with clients of the sheltered workshops. Most sheltered workshop clients have some kind of disability, either congenital or post-injury. For many of these people, sheltered workshops are the only place they can find employment. The money earned by sales at the holiday markets is used directly to operate the sheltered workshops. In 2010, with the purchase of various textile and ceramic products, decorations, candles and postcards, our employees contributed a total of more than CZK 125,000.

“It is just one more way we support non-profit organisations. It allows our employees to contribute to the activities of sheltered workshop clients,” explains Monika Pencikova, head of the Corporate Responsibility and Social Services Department.”

We appreciate ArcelorMittal Ostrava’s initiative. It is certainly a good way to bring employees together with specific clients of sheltered workshops and offer products which, in many cases, are original and irreplaceable. A simple rule applies here: the more products we sell, the more work we are able to offer our clients,” says Pavel Folta, head of St. Alexander Charity.

“We are enthusiastic about the reception ArcelorMittal employees have given our clients’ products. Our products sold very

well here, better than they did at the Christmas markets downtown. We had already been sold out by 10 o’clock and had to bring more goods,” says Ludmila Vodickova of the therapeutic workshops in Ludgerovice.

“Our sheltered workshops have taken part in Christmas market at ArcelorMittal for the second time

this year and our sales were just as successful as last year. We make special preparations for the event. We know that ArcelorMittal Ostrava employees really like our products, as shown by the revenues. If we had had more ceramic goods to offer, we would have sold even more,” adds Pavel Sefranek from Charity Opava.

100 MINUTES FOR LIFEThere is a long tradition of voluntary blood donors at ArcelorMittal. In addition, we devoted the month of October to the 100 Minutes for Life event, by means of which we support voluntary blood donations among our employees and signing up new donors. 100 minutes – that is how much time it takes to donate blood, including the administrative procedures. 100 min-utes is not much but it can help to save a human life.

856 of our employees are regular blood donors. Every year, dozens of them receive prizes for donating. 222 of our em-ployees donated blood during October, 11 of them as brand-new donors. It is espe-cially necessary to find first-time donors in the Czech healthcare system, because the number of donors in the Czech Republic is dropping by 10% every year.

We organized the blood donation cam-paign in conjunction with the Ostrava-Poruba Blood Centre. This collaboration is also a tradition. In addition to the joint event, we spent CZK 153,764 to purchase two special chairs for blood donation. Money for this uncommon donation to the Ostrava Blood Centre was earned by people dancing at the Colours of Os-

trava festival in 2010 at the ArcelorMittal Ostrava tent. Two-and-a-half thousand people took part in the Dance for Life.

“The Dance for Life was a great help to us – not only in getting new chairs, but also in obtaining new donors,“ says Nadezda Kaluzova from the Blood Centre attached to the Ostrava Teaching Hospital.

36ENRICHING LOCAL COMMUNITIES

DANCE FOR LIFE We prepared some entertainment for visitors to the last year‘s Colours of Ostrava music festival in support of voluntary blood donation. Two-and-a-half thousand people got involved in the Dance for Life over the four days of the festival. Visitors to the ArcelorMittal tent tried out the machine dance – a dance on a special mat. Their efforts added up to points which were shown on the monitor and immediately translated into Czech crowns. In this way, people danced up a total of

CZK 153,764. We donated this money to the Blood Centre attached to the Ostrava Teaching Hospital to purchase special blood donation chairs.

“It was a great event. It provided help for blood donation both in our Region and around the Republic,“ concludes Nadezda Kaluzova of the Blood Centre.

“WE WANT TO MANUFACTURE STEEL BECAUSE WE HAVE THE KNOW-HOW AND BECAUSE IT IS A MATERIAL OF THE FUTURE“ 37

The Minigrants are a very effective, non-traditional form of assistance which provides an opportunity for our em-ployees to help a non-profit organisation they have been involved with over the long-term. In 2010 we gave a total of CZk 600,000 to more than 45 regional projects run by non-profit organisations. We offer support in three areas: Leisure time activities for children, social projects and envi-ronmental projects.

minigrants

HOW DID THE MINIGRANTS START?In the course of voluntary activities the Company organized we discovered that more than 2,000 of our employees were helping out in non-profit organisa-tions. We wanted to support this noble and humane activity and that is why we announced the Minigrant programme. It is a new initiative in which we donate small contributions to small projects and thereby make our support most efficient.

“All non-profit organisations have fund-ing problems. Thanks to ArcelorMittal Ostrava‘s helpful approach, we have fulfilled another dream to buy positional aids for basal stimulation therapy for children with disabilities,“ says Jana Kad-lubcova, head of the Lydie day care cen-tre of Slezska Diakonie in Cesky Tesin.

The principal of the Ukrajinska Primary School in Ostrava - Poruba, Petr Neshoda, had similar experience: “ArcelorMittal
