Rooted in the Vine

“I am the VINE…”• “Israel is a

luxuriant vine that yields its fruit.” – Hosea 10:1

“I AM the vine…”• “I AM…” • “I AM the God of

Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.”

• “I AM WHO I AM!”

“The election of Abraham wasexplicitly for the blessing of all nations on earth.God’s command and promise to Abraham can legitimately, therefore, be called the first Great Commission… We also are to be a people through whom the nations are blessed. The history of mission is the history of the spread of God’s blessing, the history of God keeping his promise to Abraham.”

Christopher Wright

Psalm 80:8Joel 1:5-7

Isaiah 5:1-2

“YOU are the BRANCHES.”

To Know… To Do…

• To keep his commandments• “Mission to the nations is ethical at its core, for

it demands lives committed to obedience to the Lord, which become self-replicating through the work of evangelism and discipling.” – Christopher Wright

Rooted in Love

“’My humanity is caught up, is inextricably bound up, in yours.’ We belong in a bundle of life. We say, ‘A person is a person through other persons.’ It is not, ‘I think therefore I

am.’ It says rather: ‘I am human because I belong. I participate, I share.’ A person with ubuntu is open and available to others, affirming of others, does not feel

threatened that others are able and good, for he or she has a proper self-assurance that comes from knowing that he or

she belongs in a greater whole and is diminished when others are humiliated or diminished, when others are

tortured or oppressed, or treated as if they were less than who they are.” – Desmond Tutu

“This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.” – John 15:12
