2. Feed & Agricultural
Zinc Acetate is used as a polyamide catalyst, and in the polymerization of vinyl esters. It is also used as blowing agent for PVC foam; for the water proofing of textiles, paper and leather; and for shrinking and insect proofing of wool.
1. AcetatesNiacet’s technical acetates are widely used in a number of different industries and for various applications. Some of the more common applications are pH adjustment, crystallization aids, or as a catalysts or reagents.
Ammonium Acetate is used in textile dying (as a mordant in dyeing of wool, silk, acrylics, nylon). It is also used in the surface treatment of metals, as a gelling agent in the production of rubber latex, and in the production of gel foam carpet backing.
Calcium Acetate is used in the production of lubricants, calcium soaps, carbon black, and resins for printing ink. It is also used in water treatment, as a concrete hardening accelerator, and as blowing agent for PVC foam.
Sodium Acetate is used in leather tanning and in textile dyeing. It is also used in detergent tablets, as buffer in photographic industry, as a polymer stabilizer and as thermal energy storage (heat packs).
Magnesium Acetate is used in the dyes of ceramic tiles and textiles. It is also used as a catalyst in polyester film production, in the production of cigarette paper, and in off-set printing.
Potassium Acetate is used as a catalyst in the PTA (Purified Terephthalic Acid) production, which is a raw material used in making high-performance multi-purpose plastics such as PBT, PET etc. Potassium Acetate is also used in the production of VAM (Vinyl Acetate Monomer), which is used in making PVC. It is also used in the carbon black production, as a drilling fluid additive, as a flame retardant, in the production of polyurethane foam, and as a polymerization catalyst.
Niaproof® Calcium PropionateTo prevent mold growth in various animal feed & agricultural applications (such as corn and grain) we offer Calcium Propionate*. The use of Calcium Propionate as mold inhibitor gives direct savings by maintaining the nutritive value and elongating the period the feed products can be used. Calcium Propionate also prevents the formation of mycotoxins (poisons produced by fungi) which could otherwise cause mycosis or mycotoxicosis infections in the digestive tract or respiratory system of broilers, turkey or laying flocks.
3. SurfactantsNiaproof® Anionic Surfactant 4 is an aqueous solution containing 27% by weight of sodium tetradecyl sulfate. This product has modified solubility properties that make it a superior penetrant in solutions containing low concentrations of dissolved solids. It is also a good wetting agent in solutions that contain between 3 and 10 percent dissolved solids. Main applications are: metal processing, alkaline cleaning, electrolytic cleaning, pickling, plating, welding, molding, pharmaceuticals, leather dyeing, rubless polishes, textile processing desizing, carbonizing, kier boiling, dyeing, and various latex preparations.Niaproof® Anionic Surfactant 08 is an aqueous solution containing 40 percent by weight of sodium 2-ethylhexyl sulfate. It is a unique wetting assistant because of its solubility, stability, and penetrating action in strong acidic and alkaline solutions containing 10 to 20 percent of dissolved electrolyte. It is chemically stable even at the boiling point of 15 percent caustic solutions and also in the presence of concentrated bleaching powder solutions. It is effective in speeding the preparation of soda cellulose and in many other applications involving the penetration of concentrated acid, alkali, or salt solutions. Also, it is an excellent coupling agent for inorganic salts that are incorporated in organic solvent- water mixtures. Main applications are: fountain solutions, lye washing and lye peeling of fruits and vegetables, textile processing/bleaching, mercerizing, household & industrial cleaners, wallpaper penetrants, agricultural uses, meat processing, metal cleaning, alkaline cleaning, electrolytic cleaning, plating, pickling, molding, pharmaceuticals, high mineral acid cleaners and carpet cleaning. Niaproof Surfactant 08 is registered by NSF as a CleanGredients with USEPA approval.
Furthermore, treatment with calcium propionate also prevents heating of high moisture feed ingredients or mixed feed, especially where seasonal weather factors aggravate moisture conditions. Calcium Propionate is also a source of energy and calcium for dairy transition cows. It has been shown that Calcium Propionate is a useful aid to prevent milk fever in cows.
* Feed-grade Calcium Propionate is produced in our plant in Niagara Falls, NY, USA, and only available for selected markets.
4. AcidsNiaproof® Monochloroacetic acid, also referred to as MCAA, is used in the manufacture of carboxymethylcellulose (CMC), which is then used in the manufacture of adhesives; detergents; finishing agents for the textile, leather and paper industries; and drilling muds for energy production. Thioglycolic acid, an important derivative of monochloroacetate, is used for the manufacture of polyvinyl chloride stabilizers, hair permanent / waving formulations, and hair depilatory formulations. Monochloroacetic acid is also an important intermediate for the manufacture of herbicides and in many other chemical reactions.

Anhydrous Hydrogen Chloride (AHCl) is a colorless gas which plays an important role in various technologies and in pharmaceutical/chemical industries. The majority of Anhydrous Hydrogen Chloride is used to produce hydrochloric acid, a solution of AHCl in water. Concentrations range from less than 1% up to 38%.
