“My Soul Waits for God Alone”

For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence, for my hope is from him. He only is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be shaken. On God rests my salvation and my glory; my mighty rock, my refuge is God. Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us.

– Psalm 62:5-8

At that time Jesus declared, “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to little children; yes, Father, for such was your gracious will. All things have been handed over to me by my Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him. Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

– Matthew 11:25-30

Sermon: “The Drawing Light”Matthew 11:25-30

Pride is a darkness. It blinds the soul to true greatness. The great hindrance to knowing God is pride. We were created to boast in God, not self. The self-righteous, self-sufficient, self-wise, and self-strong will never perceive Christ as God and Savior though they see Him and His powers. Jesus has just denounced those who were give the greatest light of His presence yet were too proud to perceive Him. “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble” (James 4:6). Immediately following some of the hardest judgments from Jesus, this passage shines some of the most ten-der and appealing words of invitation that Jesus ever uttered. He has just opposed the proud, now He gives grace to the humble. There are heights and depths here which are beyond us—glories which shine with divine warmth. It is about revelation and renewal. It is about the proud being humbled and the humble being drawn. It emphatically and wonderfully makes much of Christ. He alone is the light of the world—the light that draws with beams of gentle love.

For Our GuestsIf this is your first time with us today, we invite you stop by our minis-try welcome area following the service. We would be happy to greet you and answer any questions you may have about our church.

Fighter Verse for the Week of February 16“Fret not yourself because of evildoers; be not envious of wrongdoers! For they will soon fade like the grass and wither like the green herb. Trust in the LORD, and do good; dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness. Delight yourself in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.”

– Psalm 37:1-4

At Today’s Table - Adult Choir SignupsCalling all past and future choir members! We’ll be having an adult choir as part of this year’s Easter service (April 12). My Soul Finds Rest (Psalm 62)My soul finds rest in God alone,my rock and my salvation.A fortress strong against my foesand I will not be shaken.Though lips may bless and hearts may curseand lies like arrows pierce me,I’ll fix my heart on righteousness,I’ll look to Him who hears me.

(Chorus)O praise Him, hallelujah,My delight and my reward,Everlasting, never failing,My Redeemer, my God.

Find rest my soul in God aloneamid the world’s temptations. When evil seeks to take a hold,I’ll cling to my salvation.Though riches come and riches go,don’t set your heart upon them. The fields of hope in which I soware harvested in heaven.

I’ll set my gaze on God aloneand trust in Him completely. With every day pour out my souland He will prove His mercy.Though life is but a fleeting breath,a sigh too brief to measure. My King has crushed the curse of death, and I am His forever.

O praise Him, O Praise Him,Hallelujah, Hallelujah!

Magnificent, Marvelous, Matchless LoveMagnificent, marvelous, matchless love;too vast and astounding to tellForever existing in worlds above, now offered and given to all.Oh, fountain of beauty eternal;the Father, the Spirit, the Son.Sufficient and endlessly generous, magnificent, marvelous, matchless love.

Creation is brimming with thankfulness, the mountains, exultant they stand; The seasons rejoice in Your faithfulness, all life is sustained by Your hand. You crown every meadow with color; You paint every shade in the sky; Each day the dawn wakes as an encore ofmagnificent, marvelous, matchless love.

(Chorus)How great, how sure; His love endures forevermore.Magnificent, marvelous, matchless love.

What grace, that You entered our brokenness; You came in the fullness of timeHow far we had fallen from righteousness, but not from the mercies of Christ.Your cross is our door to redemption;Your death is our fullness of life. That day, how forgiveness flowed as a flood:magnificent, marvelous, matchless love.

United in Your resurrection,You lift us to infinite heightsCould anything sever or take us frommagnificent, marvelous, matchless love.

Christ the Sure and Steady AnchorChrist the sure and steady anchor,in the fury of the storm; When the winds of doubt blow through meand my sails have all been torn.In the suffering, in the sorrow, when my sinking hopes are few,I will hold fast to the anchor,it shall never be removed.

Christ the sure and steady anchorwhile the tempest rages on.When temptation claims the battleand it seems the night has won,Deeper still then goes the anchor, though I justly stand accused.I will hold fast to the anchor,it shall never be removed.

Page 5: For Christ, to God’s Glory, and Man’s Joy · When evil seeks to take a hold, I’ll cling to my salvation. Though riches come and riches go, don’t set your heart upon them.

Christ the sure and steady anchorthrough the floods of unbelief.Hopeless somehow, O my soul, now, lift your eyes to Calvary. This my ballast of assurance, see His love forever proved.I will hold fast to the anchor,it shall never be removed.

Christ the sure and steady anchoras we face the wave of death. When these trials give way to glory,as we draw our final breath,We will cross that great horizon, clouds behind and life secure. And the calm will be the better, for the storms that we endure.

Christ the shore of our salvation, ever faithful, ever true.We will hold fast to the anchor,it shall never be removed.

A Christian’s Daily PrayerAs morning dawns and day awakes,To You I bring my needO gracious God, my source of strength,In You I live and breatheEach hour is Yours by wisdom planned,Each deed empowered by sovereign handsRenew my spirit, help me stand;Be glorified today

As day unfolds, I seek Your willIn all of life’s demandsAnd though the tempter tries me still,I cling to Your commandsLet every effort of my lifeDisplay the matchless worth of ChristMake me a living sacrifice;Be glorified today

As sun gives way to darkest nightYour Spirit still is hereAnd though my strength fades like the lightNew mercies will appearI rest in You; abide with meUntil our trials and sufferingGive way to final victoryBe glorified today;Be glorified, I pray

Jesus Is MineFade, fade, each earthly joy;Jesus is mine.Stronger than fleeting hopes,Jesus is mine.Dark is the wilderness,Earth has no resting place,Jesus alone can bless;Jesus is mine.

In days of fragile peace,Jesus is mine.Through tearful nights of grief,Jesus is mine. His voice commands the storm,His presence stills my soul,He will sustain my hope;Jesus is mine.

(Chorus)Jesus is mine, Jesus is mine,When all else fails, He still remains;Jesus is mine.

When on that final day,Jesus is mine; Before his radiant face,Jesus is mine.Safe in his arms I’ll cling,Praising my Savior King,Forevermore I’ll sing:“Jesus is mine.”
