    1 About Report-IT

    Report-IT Live

Tieline's Report-IT Live changes newsgathering and live remotesby turning an iPhone® into a pocket-sized portable 15kHz live IPaudio codec and ultra-slim high fidelity audio recorder. It is asimple application which allows a reporter to use a smartphone to:

    · Broadcast 15kHz live two-way interviews between thetalent/reporter and the studio live to air.

    · Use the high quality mic on your iPhone or Androidsmartphone to prerecord up to 20kHz quality high fidelityaudio, then file reports via FTP automatically.

    · Prerecord interviews, trim them offline, then build a playlistand insert them as “wraparounds” into live crosses with thestudio.

    · Attach a professional dynamic mic to your phone using acompatible third-party microphone adapter cable.

Report-IT Live and Report-IT Live Pro

Report-IT is available as a free trial version called Report-IT Lite with limitedrecording features. To purchase Report-IT Live go to the iTunes App Store anddownload the Report-IT Live app. Upgrading to Report-IT Live Pro is performed viaan in-app purchase on the iTunes App Store and delivers unlimited Live Time.

    Auto Reconnect

Tap to enable and disable Auto Reconnect. When enabled (default), Report-IT willattempt to automatically reconnect to the studio codec if the connection istemporarily lost.

    Adjusting SmartStream Settings

Tap SmartStream to view and adjust Jitter Buffer settings and the MaximumDepth (longest latency). By default Report-IT uses the default Best Compromiseautomatic Jitter Buffer setting, which is the default setting in all Tieline IP audiocodecs. It is designed to provide excellent audio quality with low latency, to supportlive bidirectional audio communication. There are 5 different Auto jitter-buffersettings available, including a fixed jitter buffer setting if preferred.

The jitter Maximum Depth allows a predetermined maximum jitter setting to beconfigured. 1000ms is a good starting point for most networks. It may be necessaryto increase the depth for networks experiencing high packet latency.

    Forward Error Correction (FEC)

FEC works by sending a secondary stream of audio packets over the connection, sothat if primary audio stream packets are lost or corrupted, then packets from thesecondary stream can be substituted to replace them. The amount of FEC requireddepends on the number of data packets lost over an IP connection and theconnection bandwidth available. FEC should only be used if link quality displayed onthe codec is below S:99 R:99, as it is of no benefit otherwise.

  • 18 Report-IT Live for iPhone v3.5.2

Tieline Research Pty. Ltd. © 2019

Please note that the FEC settings in Report-IT relate to the following FECpercentage settings in Tieline codecs:

    · High = 100% FEC· Medium = 50% FEC· Low = 33% FEC· Lowest = 20% FEC

  • 19Report-IT Live for iPhone v3.5.2

    5.4 Changing Port Settings

As a default, Report-IT Live uses TCP port 9002 to send session data with connectioninformation and UDP port 9000 to send audio. The session port always uses the TCPprotocol because this protocol is the most likely to get through firewalls – ensuringcritical session data (including dial, connect and hang-up data) will be received reliably.

In TCP/IP and UDP/IP networks the codec port is the endpoint of your connection andby using different ports, several codecs in your studio can use the same static public IPaddress. When data is received from several remote codecs at a single static public IPaddress at the studio, different ports are used to send the correct packets to multiplestudio codecs. This process is performed by PAT (Port Address Translation), which is afeature of NAT (Network Address Translation) devices.

If you need to reconfigure the default Report-IT Live port numbers, please consult yourIT system administrator for assistance on port allocation.

    Changing Report-IT Live Port Numbers

    1. Tap the Configuration symbol on the Report Live screen.2. Tap Codecs.

    3. Tap Codec underneath Favourites and Contacts.

It is designed toprovide excellent audio quality with low latency, to support live bidirectional audiocommunication. There are 5 different Auto jitter-buffer settings available, including afixed jitter buffer setting, which can be configured by the Report-IT administrator.Tieline’s Jitter-buffer is smart because of its ability to:

    · Remove duplicate packets.· Re-order packets if they arrive out-of-order.· Repair the stream in the event of packet loss (error concealment).· Manage delay dynamically based on current network congestion.· Manage forward error correction (FEC).

  • 36 Report-IT Live for iPhone v3.5.2

Tieline Research Pty. Ltd. © 2019

Over LANs, WANs and wireless networks the automatic jitter buffer generally worksextremely well and very reliably. It adapts automatically to the prevailing IP networkconditions to provide continuity of return audio streaming in Report-IT andsimultaneously minimizes any latency.
