From The Desk of Mr. Stoner
Welcome back to a new and exciting school year! I am very excited about what this year will hold for us all. It has been good these past couple days to see the students back in the building and to hear the educational buzz throughout. I am very excited for what this year will hold for us all. Ten new staff members joining us this year--it is going to be a great year.
For parents dropping off students in the morning or picking students up after school, please remember to enter the line on the north east side of the building near central office and to remain single file in the line of cars. Creating a second line of cars creates safety issues for our students, and we don’t want any of them injured. Please do not park in the parking lot on the south side of the building either. Again, when students start going around cars in the line it creates safety issues for them.
This year there will be a full time SRO (School Resource Officer) on premises all day long, every day to further insure the safety of our students and staff. We are very excited for this new addition as well.
Recently I was on the website for Common Sense Media and came across a Family Media Agreement. I have attached it to the end of the newsletter. This is not something that has to be returned to the school. This is completely between parent(s) and student(s). If you would like to use it, please feel free. Making sure our students are using the different online accounts wisely is a task we must all take part in. This helps to let your student know that you care about what they are doing while online.
It is going to be a great year. I am so excited that the students are back in the building again.
Yearbook The 2017-2018 Kostang yearbooks have arrived! We have extra copies of the full color yearbook in the office for $60.00. Just bring your check, payable to Kouts School for $60, to the office and we will give you one of our extra yearbooks. There are only 30 extra copies, so hurry and pick up yours!

Coming Soon . . . Welcome, and Welcome Back! We’re thrilled to share that our first week back has been fabulous, as declared by students and staff alike! This year, we have been blessed with welcoming 52 kindergartners and eight new students in first through fifth grade, for a grand total of 339 students. In addition, nine new staff members have joined the KES family:
Mrs. Kim Gronek—Lunch/Recess Aide Mrs. Wendy Bannerman—Lunch/Recess Aide Mrs. Stephanie Simons--Paraprofessional Mrs. Kathy Lynch—Kindergarten Instructional
Aide Mrs. Dena Hancock—Second-grade Instructional
Aide Mrs. Amy Sexton—Third-grade Instructional Aide Mrs. Vanessa Noltner—Second-grade Teacher
(Maternity Leave) Miss Tressa Hester—Third-grade Teacher Mrs. Ashley Besel—Social Worker
We are looking forward to the great opportunities this new school year will bring. Parents, thank you for entrusting us with your precious children!
Student Birthdays Recognized We’d like to wish a very happy birthday to the following students that celebrated their special day during the week of August 13-19: Kindergarten—Brooklynn Wetzel; First Grade—Bradley Howard; Second Grade—Carter Enright; Third Grade—Aiden Birky; Fourth Grade—Yohanna Klockow, and Fifth Grade—Cameron Steinmetz. We hope your day was extra special!
Parents Invited to Lunch with Their Children Parents, did you know that you’re able to lunch with your children? You may bring your own lunch or pre-order a school lunch by calling 766-2231 by 9:00 AM. As a friendly reminder, no soda may be brought into the cafeteria. Whether a nice surprise or planned lunch, students absolutely love to eat with their parents! Parents, we hope your schedule will allow an occasional lunch with your child.
New to KES—PBIS! We’re very excited to share that Kouts Elementary is implementing PBIS, Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports, beginning this school year. Using the consistent School-Wide Expectations of “Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Be a Problem Solver,” PBIS encourages and rewards good behavior and reduces or eliminates poor behaviors. On Tuesday, each class visited “Expectation Stations” where the bus driver, food service director, and social worker reviewed the expectations and voice levels for each specific area, modeled them, and then had the students practice. The classroom teachers taught the classroom, restroom, and playground behavior expectations and voice levels. We are looking forward to the positive changes at KES this year!
Lunch with the Principal to Resume Lunch with the Principal, including an ice cream treat, will resume next week. Mrs. Eich considers these twice-weekly “lunch dates” as one of her favorite parts of the week, allowing her to get to know new students and reconnect with last year’s KES students. One student from each classroom is chosen, with invitations hand-delivered on Friday for the next week’s lunch.
PTO Seeks Game Donations
The KES PTO is currently seeking donations of the following gently-used games: board games, cards, blocks, Legos, etc. All donations are greatly appreciated and can be dropped off at the elementary office. Thank you!
