MAKE AN IMPACT At its core, biology is the study of God’s creation. It gives us insight into how living systems work, their interaction with one another, and how they develop and change over time. As a biologist, you will learn to ask questions, make observations, analyze evidence and be a problem solver. At Simpson University, you will gain a comprehensive understanding of the natural world through the lens of a Christian worldview, acquiring the skills you need to make a difference.

DEGREE STRUCTURETake General Biology and General Chemistry as well as introductory courses in English, Psychology and Bible. Go on camp-outs with your fellow biology majors and professors, and join the Biology Club.
Continue to build on your knowledge base with Cell and Molecular Biology and Genetics, along with Organic Chemistry, and the math sequence. Take Bible courses and courses in the humanities to broaden your worldview. (Consider spending a semester at the Best Semester Costa Rica program.)
Expand your world with Ecology and the Physics sequence. Begin to choose your electives within the major and work with your faculty advisor to research graduate opportunities. Upper-division Bible courses challenge you to dive deeper into God’s Word. (Think about summer field courses at Au Sable Institute or propose a summer research project with one of our faculty.)
Complete your electives in the major and experience our senior capstone course. Get ready for the world!
OUR BIOLOGY MAJOR is designed to give you a strong, broad-based background in the biological sciences, in preparation for graduate work in biology or related disciplines. Biology majors at Simpson University also recognize their responsibilities as communicators to both the church and the public.
PROGRAM GOALSAs a biology major at Simpson Unviersity, you can expect to:
¾ Attain a foundation of broad-based knowledge in biology as well as the physical sciences.
¾ Master the use of laboratory techniques specific to those fields in order to acquire meaningful data.
¾ Practice keenly analyzing and evaluating scientific information, and gain the ability to propose future paths for investigation.
¾ Develop the communication skills needed in order to read, write, and present scientific information with excellence.¾ Explore the intersections among Christian morality and worldviews, scientific inquiry, and decision-making.
