Careless ORV use contributes to soil erosion, soil compaction, spread of noxious weeds and infringement on wildlife habitat.

Protect and respect wetlands, grasslands and alpine areas and maintain a healthy ecosystem by riding responsibly on established routes.

PenaltiesNew trail development is prohibited under legislation.

Individuals who damage an ecosystem on Crown land (such as wetlands, grasslands, and alpine areas) may be subject to penalties including a maximum fi ne of $100,000, up to one year in jail, or both.

To Drive an ORV on a Forest Service Road, You Must Have

• Valid driver’s licence

• $200,000 minimum accident insurance

• Approved helmet

Ride Responsibly

• Stay on designated ORV trails and routes

• Respect road, trail or area closures

• Obey all posted signs

• Avoid sensitive areas, such as wetlands, grasslands and alpine areas

• Cross streams at designated locations

• Stay off soft, wet trails that can be easily damaged

• Do not harass wildlife and domestic livestock

• Remove any plant material or seeds from your equipment and self to prevent the spread of inva-sive plants

• Keep your vehicle maintained to reduce pollution and excess noise

• Respect fences and leave gates as you found them

• Pack out what you pack in

• Be respectful of other trail users

The Tunkwa-Duff y Area contains some of the most sensitive grasslands in the Thompson Okanagan.

Past unrestricted Off -Road Vehicle (ORV) use has led to extensive damage to the ecosystem and wildlife habitats.

The grasslands in the Tunkwa-Duff y Area are protected while providing opportunities for sustainable ORV riding and camping.

Closures

To protect the sensitive grassland ecosystems, the following areas are closed to ORV riding and camping, under the section 58 of the Forest and Range Practices Act.

• Tunkwa

• Six Mile

• Cherry Creek

• Logan Lake Ski Trails

The closures do not apply to snowmobiles operating on a minimum of 0.5 m of snow.

ATV Trails

Forge Mountain – approximately 85 km of trails northwest of Logan Lake.

Logan Lake Face-Paska – approximately 65 km of trails northeast of Logan Lake.

Logan Lake South – approximately 30 km of trails southwest of Logan Lake.

Motorcycle Trails

Greenstone Duff y – approximately 130 km of trails southwest of Kamloops

Each riding area has designated staging areas.

Campsites

Camping is prohibited in the four closed areas. There are more than 20 designated campsites in the area off ering a range of amenities and services.
