Years ago I heard the statement, “You must seize the opportunity of a l i fet ime in the l i fet ime of the opportunity.” I f there is one word that descr ibes this season in the l i fe of Temple Baptist Church i t is the word “opportunity.” In January 2016, when we f i rst launched our strategic plan cal led “SATURATE,” we knew God was cal l ing us to “saturate the Pinebelt and the world with the gospel.” The strategic ini t iat ives in our plan are coming to fruit ion, and we now move into the next phases of this season of opportunity. We are humbled by the pr iv i lege and responsibi l i ty God has entrusted to us individual ly and as a church. As you read this booklet, i t is our hope that your passion and vis ion for the Lord and His work wi l l be renewed and refreshed. You wi l l be reminded of our v is ion init iat ives and informed of the next steps we wi l l take together. Our v is ion is fueled by a deep burden for the lost , the hurt ing, and those needing hope in Christ . Whi le the information in this booklet is not exhaust ive, i t does provide a c lear path for sustaining, growing, and expanding our abi l i ty to “Saturate the Pinebelt and the world with the gospel.” In the movie “Luther”, the great Christ ian reformer was preparing for his t r ia l where he had been ordered to recant his teachings concerning salvat ion by grace through faith alone in Christ a lone. He said to his father in the ministry, “When you sent me out to change the world, did you think i t would cost me nothing?” As we consider the future generat ions who wi l l be blessed and reached by these endeavors, we are asking that each member of Temple prayerful ly read this mater ia l and ask the fol lowing: Lord, where are you sending me?Lord, make me a prayer warr ior!Lord, help me to grow in the grace of giv ing! Each one of us has been entrusted with one “l i fet ime.” I implore you to seize this opportunity God has given you to make an eternal impact that wi l l last beyond this l i fe and into eternity. Together we can SATURATE the Pinebelt and the world with the gospel!

TERMS TO KNOWCORE VALUESTemple’s core values are the guiding pr inciples that def ine our behavior and act ions. Our heart at Temple is to see Li fe Change, and we see this happening through three core values: L i fe Worship, L i fe Together, and Li fe Mission.
SATURATESaturate is Temple’s f ive-year strategic plan to saturate the Pinebelt and the world with the gospel of Jesus Christ . We bel ieve that Saturate is a God-given vis ion for our church.
SATURATE FUNDING INITIATIVEThe Saturate Funding Initiative is a two-year financial plan that enables us to fund the initial stages of our Saturate Vision.
ONE FUND GIVING MODELThe “One Fund Giving Model” enables us to see that everything we do is miss ional . A part of this in i t iat ive is to chal lenge each of us to increase our f inancial support with a two-year commitment to the Lord’s work through our church.

BUILDING FROM THE FOUNDATIONGod has great ly blessed the histor ical commitment to being on mission that embodies Temple Baptist Church. As a result , we have been blessed great ly with people, resources, and opportunity. Bel ieving Luke 12:48 “from everyone who has been given much, much wi l l be required; and to whom they entrusted much, of him they wi l l ask al l the more,” we better understand Paul ’s statement in Romans 1:14, “I am under obl igat ion both to Greeks and to barbar ians, both to the wise and to the fool ish.”

In 1907, 15 Baptists came together for the purpose of offer ing Sunday School for their chi ldren in a locat ion nearer to their homes. They began meeting in a smal l servant’s house on Sunday afternoons, eventual ly moving to a home as their numbers grew. Their desire to foster a community of worship and spir i tual learning would keep growing, becoming the Temple Baptist Church of today. A smal l group of 15 bel ievers is now over 4,000 and continues to grow.
In June, construct ion
begins on a major expansion for the
Hardy Street Church.
As membership grows, Temple votes
to lease 50 acres in Lamar County on
Old Highway 11.
Temple’s resident membership grows to 4,493.
1907 The church is off ic ia l ly
organized on 4th Avenue in the home of Mr. and Mrs. H. R. Ri ley and is given the
name “Faith.”
The s i te for the new church is
donated by H. A. Camp. Because of i ts locat ion on 5th Avenue, the name
becomes 5th Avenue Baptist
Church, the f i rst Baptist church in the western part
of the city.
On the corner of Hardy Street
and 16th Avenue, construct ion
begins for a newer, larger church
bui lding. On June 3, 1951, the church
changes i ts name to Temple Baptist
Church.

WHY ARE WE DOING THIS?Because 1.9 BILLION PEOPLE in the world have never heard the gospel! We have a burden that begins with the glory of God and is fueled by our compassion for the lost , the broken, and the hopeless. People in our community and the world need to hear the gospel of Jesus Christ .

CHURCH PLANTING
What is a “sending church?” A sending church is one that obedient ly responds to Jesus’ f inal command to His fol lowers to go into al l the world and make disciples of a l l nat ions.
Today, there are 1.9 bi l l ion people who have never heard the name of Jesus. Charles Spurgeon once said, “I plead this day for those who cannot plead for themselves… Shal l we let them perish? Can we go to our beds and s leep whi le China, India, Japan, and other nat ions are being damned?” A sending church is one that has a burden for and a plan to see that al l who are presently damned hear the l i fe-changing message of the gospel.
As you wi l l see on the pages that fol low, we have an intent ional strategy that wi l l prepare our people to fai thful ly share the gospel and establ ish

SENDING OPPORTUNITIES
Christ ian communit ies in every part of the world. A sending church is one that is known more for the numbers they send than the ones that gather. Our desire is that Temple wi l l be known as a going and sending church.
17 18
OUR GOAL IS TO INTENTIONALLY MAKE DISCIPLES OF JESUS,WHO MAKE DISCIPLES OF JESUS
IF YOU ABIDE IN ME, AND MY
WORDS ABIDE IN YOU…. YOU BEAR MUCH FRUIT, AND
SO PROVE TO BE MY DISCIPLES.
JOHN 15:7-8
The family is the God-designed unit for shaping an individual f rom birth to personal matur i ty. In the same way, the body of Christ is the God-designed unit for shaping an individual f rom spir i tual birth to spir i tual matur i ty. This is why disciple-making should be at the heart of a l l that a church is and al l that i t does. Much l ike a greenhouse, a church has many intent ional components or environments that contr ibute to the product of the disciple who makes disciples generat ion after generat ion. Three disciple-making environments at Temple are as fol lows: Bible Fel lowship organizes the church into ongoing, smal ler, mult iply ing groups that are open to everyone in order to help people

connect, belong, be cared for, use their spir i tual gi f ts , and gain Bible understanding and appl icat ion; L i fe Groups help those who desire to be a disciple-maker; Equipping Classes equip people in specif ic stages of l i fe, cr is is , or core habits/truths in short-term groups pr imari ly on Wednesday nights.
Jesus wi l l make an impact in our hearts dur ing this Saturate Funding Init iat ive. See, discipleship, and stewardship are intertwined. As we grow in our discipleship, we grow in our stewardship, and as we grow in our stewardship, we wi l l grow in our discipleship. The two concepts work hand-in-hand to mold our hearts more into the image of Jesus.
Discipleship involves our convict ion, character, and conduct. A disciple of Jesus is a person who is fol lowing Christ (convict ion) , is being changed by Christ (character ) , and is committed to the mission of Christ (conduct) . “He said to them, ‘Fol low me, and I wi l l make you f ishers of men’.”

Within the “Five-Mile Radius” are the poorest and wealthiest c i t izens in the Pinebelt . Temple is strategical ly located to the populat ion base that surrounds i t . The “Five-Mile Radius” surrounding the church is diverse ethnical ly, economical ly and cultural ly.
OUR GOAL IS TO SATURATE THE PINEBELT WITH THE GOSPEL
Within the “Five-Mile Radius” of Temple, 60% of the populat ion expressed they are Christ ian and members of a local church. However, in Lamar County alone, only 12.87% claim to regular ly attend. More troubl ing is that regular attendance is now def ined as one in every four Sundays. I f project ions are correct, of the 52,000 people residing within the “Five-Mile Radius” in 2019, less than 12% are going to be in church on any given Sunday.

Temple desires to see the power of the gospel t ransform l ives and communit ies. We intend to do this by forming strategic partnerships with l ike-minded churches and ministr ies around the world. Strategic partnerships mult iply ministry effect iveness for k ingdom growth by enabl ing partners to leverage their strengths and resources. They
wi l l provide Temple with access to locat ions that would be unreachable otherwise. Also, wi l l provide increased mission opportunit ies for Temple members. Most of a l l , strategic partnerships wi l l better enable Temple to fol low the Lord’s
command to make disciples of a l l nat ions.
A partnership is defined as an arrangement where parties agree to cooperate for the purpose of advancing their mutual interest. Temple seeks to develop partnerships to increase the likelihood of achieving our missional goals and to expand our reach into the world with the gospel message.
TEMPLE’S PRIORITIES FOR FUTURE PARTNERSHIPS:
• Temple partnerships should be formed to penetrate darkness. Luke 19:10
• Temple partnerships should impact all five regions of North America and every inhabitable continent around the world.
• Temple desires to partner with our own missionaries, encouraging, supporting, and enabling them to accomplish
the mission God has called them to.

Temple wi l l develop an intent ional plan for plant ing churches.
I t goes without saying, lost people need Jesus. Church plant ing is the most effect ive way to saturate a community with a gospel presence. Church plants reach different people groups. The Great Commission mandated that disciples be reached among al l nat ions, not just the Gal i leans who were gathered. They can reach different demographics of people by strategical ly posit ioning them to serve communit ies in f resh and effect ive ways.
“America is drast ical ly underchurched. The church-to-populat ion rat io has been steadi ly decl ining for the past century. In 1900, there were 28 churches for every 10,000 Americans. By 1950, that number had dropped to 17 for every 10,000. In 2000, there were only 12 churches per 10,000; and in 2004, the rat io was down to 11/10,000.” Tom Clegg and Warren Bird

A P P L I C AT I O NOur aim is to understand God’s joyful generosity toward us
more deeply.
On a scale of 1-10 (1 being the least l ikely and 10 being most conf ident) , rate your level of generosity. How would you rate your current level of f inancial generosity based on your capacity?
What is one smal l , concrete step you can take to grow in your level of generosity?
What is the role of individual giv ing in the mission of the church? What do you imagine the church is unable to do r ight now but would be able to do i f everyone gave generously?

A P P L I C AT I O NOur aim is to begin our giv ing journey and grow into consistent givers.
Beginning a journey of giv ing starts when we put some restraints on our spending. Where can you cut some spending in your own budget to prepare yoursel f to give more?
How can you contr ibute to and promote a culture of generosity in your home? Why is i t important to develop generosity in your home ear ly on?
What is celebrated is repeated. Understanding how crucial giv ing is to l iv ing as a Christ ian. As we become more consistent in our giv ing, how can we joyful ly hold one another accountable?

A P P L I C AT I O NOur aim is to grow from consistent givers into t i thing givers.
Give some thought to the three types of givers we have discussed so far—beginning giver, consistent giver, and t i ther. Which one best f i ts your current giv ing l i festyle? Where would you l ike to see growth over the next year?
Why do you think so many church members choose not to t i the?
Giving away 10% of your income wi l l s ignif icant ly impact your standard of l iv ing. Why should you move from consistent giv ing to t i thing? How is this a heart issue?
What do we communicate to God when we t i the faithful ly? Why should t i thing be a source of joy and not a burden for us?

A P P L I C AT I O NOur aim is to move from t i thing givers to expanding and extravagant givers. Here are some items to begin praying about. Talk through these with your Bible Fel lowship class and with your family.
How wel l informed am I about my giving opportunit ies? What adjustments in my earning or spending do I need to make so I can be ready to give beyond my t i the as the Lord leads?
Over my l i fet ime, what long-term generosity impact might I have? I f I created my personal generosity dream l i fe, what would i t look l ike?
What steps can you make this year to begin to make a higher pr ior i ty of this legacy l i festyle?
