On Thursday 30th May at 10:30am Forbes North had over 45 students who participated in the Forbes North Spelling Bee Challenge. All students who entered need to be congratulated on their spelling efforts. Speaking in front of a crowd is a challenge but spelling words is even harder when in front of your peers.

HEALTHY HAROLD IS COMING TO FORBES NORTH

He will be here from Wednesday 19th June to Tuesday 25th June. We thank Northparkes Mine again for supporting the LEV visit to our school. For those who have not paid the VSC the cost to participate is $5.00 per student, payable to the school by no later than Friday June 7th. A note was sent home yesterday with a merchandise order form attached.

Coin Drive

We will be holding a coin drive to raise money for the school between Monday week 6 and Friday week 8. Each class has an animal poster in their room to try and fill with coins. There will be a prize for the class who fills their poster the quickest and a prize for the class who raises the most money. Silver and gold coins will be accepted. The winning classes will be announced Friday week 9 Thank you, Entertainment & Fundraising Committee

PUBLIC SPEAKING

Annalise Green & Marnie Blake competed in the years 5 & 6 CWA Public Speaking competition in Trundle on the 28th of May. Annaliese entertained the audience with her speech on Dreaming, emphasising why her day dreams could help her in her future. Marnie’s speech informed us all about Hugh Jackman. Both girls spoke so well but unfortunately didn't get a place. Karla Osborne and Corby Fliedner competed in the Year 3 & 4 competition. Karla’s speech told us what was special about being a twin and Corby’s speech entertained us with why it wasn't her idea to deliver her speech. Karla received a highly accomplished and Corby was the first reserve. Amazing effort girls

From the Principal…..

Last week I mentioned the review that is currently underway into the Making IT Happen information technology program that was introduced in 2017 and implemented in 2018. We also provided access to some school and Department documents relating to the program.

The working party that is heading the review met last week and has put together an easy to read document that explains the differences and similarities between other popular student IT programs and Making IT Happen. Again, this document can be accessed from the following link:

https://forbesnth-p.schools.nsw.gov.au/news/2019/5/making-it-happen-policy-and-procedures-review.html

In the very near future we will be holding an information session to further explain these options. We will then be seeking input from all interested parties via a survey to determine the best way forward in addressing our IT needs. Have a great week! Steve McAlister Principal

Soccer - On Wednesday the boys' soccer team will be travelling to the Forbes Botanical Gardens to compete against the Small Schools team in round 3 of the PSSA soccer competition. We will be leaving the school at 10:00am by bus with the game commencing at 10.30a.m. We hope to see as many parents, carers, friends and family at the game as possible. The boys are looking forward to lacing their boots up for the big game. See you all there. Miss Jones

Girls Rugby League Team

Our girls Rugby League team will travel to Dubbo today for their gala day. The girls have been training hard learning how to tackle each other safely and how to be tackled safely. The girls tackle gala day is always a good day and we are looking forwards to it.

BOOK CLUB

Issue 4 of Book Club has been sent home. Once again, this month's edition is packed full of awesome books. Have you seen the $2 specials? Keep a look-out for the monthly specials. It's never too early to stock up for Birthday and Christmas presents!! Please return Book Club orders by 20th June 2019 (end of Week 8).

It's wonderful to see so many students completing their Premier's Reading Challenge. Karla Osborne, Camley Hapgood, Nevada

Karaitiana, Corby Fliedner, Isabel Pearce, Delilah Karaitiana and Sarah Herford have all been successful in completing their challenge over the last few weeks. The challenge ends at the end of August so there is still plenty of time to go. Keep reading and don't forget to record the name of the books being read.

Happy reading!!!

Now that the winter is truly here it's time to stock up on some lovely pies from our local Bakehouse. There are many flavours to choose from, so try one or try them all! Did we mention lamingtons are also available and are cheaper by the dozen? Share the order form with family and friends and get the forms back to the School office by Wednesday 19th June.

Operation Art

Phoebe, Zoe and Rachel all entered art in The Operation Art competition. This competition has students from all over NSW create artworks to be hung in an exhibition that then can lead to their artworks being hung at the Sydney Children’s Hospital.

Forbes Shire Council is coordinating Frost and Fire at the Lake Forbes Ski Dam on Saturday, 22 June, 2019. We’ll have local talent, Lily Gaffaney hitting centre stage closely followed by Young Marks, a JJJ unearthed band from Canberra and headlining will be internationally acclaimed, LIOR. As we’re partying lakeside, we’ll have floating candles and dragon boats to set the scene. Add to this a number of fire dancers and fire performers, spectacular lighting and fire displays and some amazing winter effects. Enjoy slow cooked, hearty winter food and warming brew. The event is FREE and family friendly. Gates open at 4pm.

The event is Council’s premier event for the year and aims to bring people to town to support the visitor economy. Hope you can join us
