Project Summary:
IRON MOUNTAIN -- Ford Airport is in the process of a
project as a proactive approach to safety and operating
cost reduction.
The airport is installing LED lighting to the parking lot , as-
we;;-as and to the runways, taxi-ways, thanks to a grant
from the federal government.
The new lighting is also expected to cut into the airport's
energy costs, saving an estimated 40 percent over the
lifetime of the lights said Ford Airport Manager Tim
Howen. "It sure improves on our airport's user ability right
now,” he said. “It's a win-win situation for us, and the
safety is going to be that much better for the pilots,
passengers, and actually for us."
Beacon Products representative, Robert C. Shaver Co., Inc. located in Wyoming, MI was the key factor in the engineering designs, specification writing, and bidding process for this project.
Project Objectives:
• Energy reduction
• Increased safety
• Increased visibly
• Maintenance reduction
• Low initial cost
• Replace 400w HPS w/ 144w LED
Technology + Style = ”INSPIRED” Solutions

Efficiency means more than energy savings. The Genesis was designed with more than energy savings in mind. Every detail was uniquely designed to provide accessibility, reliability, and durability. Its sleek design proves that architectural beauty does not have to be sacrificed for the sake of functionality. All luminaire designs started with optical performance as the key objective. Once optimum light distribution was achieved, thermal management of the heat generated by the LEDs and the driver was then addressed. Adaptive Thermal Technology The Genesis’ monolithic housing design creates over 6.9ft
2 of
heat-sinking surface area per linear ft. through the use of its patent-pending horizontally-opposed fin design. As environmental conditions become more demanding, the Genesis’ scalable housing may be increased in length to provide additional surface area and decrease component
temperatures. Downward sloping, horizontal, fins prevent sediment and moisture buildup on critical heat sinking surfaces without the need for grates, screens or other debris control tactics.
Beacon Products, with a 30+ year history of leadership in lighting and site furnishings, is the first domestic manufacturer to introduce the most comprehensive line of “Municipal-Grade” outdoor LED luminaires. These luminaires are designed to be environmentally friendly, as well as performance driven with their light control and distribution optical systems.
