In the Rankings: Bloomsburg enters the season receiving national atten-tion following last year’s run to the Sweet 16. The Huskies were ranked inside the Top 25 of two national polls - Bloomsburg was slotted No. 11 in the Women’s Division II Bulletin Top 25 last month and picked No. 16 in the USA Today/WBCA Top 25 earlier this month. Last year’s No. 14 ranking was the highest for BU since standing at No. 12 on Feb, 26, 2002.

Cream of the Crop: Bloomsburg is the only PSAC East team to be ranked nationally entering the sea-son, ranking in both the USA Today/WBCA and Division II Bulletin Top 25 polls. West Chester also earned votes in the WBCA Top 25.

Beasts of the East: The Huskies has won four straight outright PSAC East titles, matching their own record. Bloomsburg also achieved the feat from 1988-91 (also sharing with West Chester in 1987 and finishing in a four-way tie in 1986). Since then, no other Eastern Division team has won more than back-to-back outright divisional crowns. In all, Bloomsburg now has 14 PSAC East championships, shared and outright.

Ford’s Preseason Honor: Huskies senior Jocelyn Ford earned a spot on the All-PSAC Preseason Team. Ford averaged 12.0 points, 5.2 re-bounds, 4.1 assists and 1.8 steals per game last season. She was honored as a All-PSAC East Second Team selection following last season.

Newcomers: Graduate student Taylor Maldonado arrives from Florida Southern College. An instant threat to start at point guard, she aver-aged 7.5 points per game in 24 games during 2011-12 and 11.4 points per game in 12 contests in 2012-13. One freshman also joins the roster – Camden Boehner. Boehner brings an ability to beat defenders off the dribble and strong vision of the court and arrives at Bloomsburg after a 1,000-point career at Gettysburg Area High School.

GAME NOTES

Scouting New Haven: New Haven has high expectations entering the new season as the Chargers were selected to win the Northeast-10 Southwest Division with 10 of 15 first-place votes. Defending national champion Bentley is the favorite in the NE-10. New Haven also received national recogni-tion by receiving votes in the preseason USA Today/WBCA Division II Top 25.

A year ago the Chargers were an NCAA Tournament team reaching the NCAA postseason for the first time since 2007 under the first-year leader-ship of head coach Ty Grace, finishing the year at 18-10.

Honorable mention All-America selection and reigning NE-10 Defensive Player of the Year Aquillin Hayes leads the list of seven returners for New Haven off last year’s NCAA team while seven newcomers join the roster. Last year’s team was bounced from the first round of the East Region of the NCAA Tournament bracket with a 92-86 overtime loss to Adelphi. Hayes led the team in scoring (15.3 ppg). The top three scor-ers from last year return as also back are junior guard Brianna Bradford (13.9 ppg) and senior combo guard Bria Moore (11.4 ppg).

All-Time Series: The Huskies have won the only two meetings between the schools, but Friday’s game will be the first game between BU and New Haven since the Huskies won, 75-45, at Nelson Field House on Nov. 27, 2001. On that night the Huskies led 40-14 at halftime and played four players in double-figures led by Megan LaBuda’s six-of-eight shooting from the floor for 12 points along with 11 rebounds.
